The New York Mets are shutout by the San Diego Padres



The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.  The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final score was 6-0.  Dillon Gee started for the Mets and wasn't very good and the Mets offense only managed five hits. 

Gee pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs with no walks and eight strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Buddy Carlyle pitched an inning striking out one and Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run.  He struck out one and Vic Black retired the only batter that he faced. 

Tyson Ross won his eighth game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out six.  Alex Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out two, Kevin Quackenbush retired the only batter that he faced and Blaine Boyer pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Gee drew a walk, Eric Young Jr. drew a walk and Murphy hit a double.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Young Jr. was caught stealing, Nieuwenhuis committed an error and d'Arnaud had two passed balls. 

Alexi Amarista had a hit, Chase Headley had two hits and an RBI and Seth Smith had a hit and an RBI.  Yasmani Grandal had two hits and an RBI, Will Venable had a hit and an RBI and Rene Rivera had a hit.  Headley hit a double, Grandal, Venable and Smith each hit a homerun.  The Padres were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Nelson committed an error. 

Grandal hit a solo homerun in the second inning to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.  Headley hit a two run single in the third to make it 3-0 Padres.  Venable hit a solo homerun in the fourth to give the Padres a 4-0 lead.  Smith hit a solo homerun in the sixth to increase the lead to 5-0 and a passed ball made it 6-0 in the eighth and that would be the final score.
