New York Yankees drop second in a row to the worst team in baseball



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium and the final score was 11-6.  CC Sabathia started and pitched poorly, the Yankees offense was good but they left a ton of guys on and Dellin Betances wasn't sharp in his second inning of work. 

Sabathia pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Brandon Pinder pitched to one batter and struck him out, Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Justin Wilson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and striking out one.  Betances lost his first game of the season and his career pitching an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two strikeouts.  Nick Rumbelow pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Sean O'Sullivan pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up ten hits and six runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Elvis Araujo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Jeanmar Gomez pitched an inning giving up a walk and Luis Garcia pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Ken Giles won his third game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out three, Justin De Fratus pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley had two hits and an RBI and Alex Rodriguez had two hits and two RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit, Carlos Beltran had two hits and Garrett Jones had a hit and an RBI.  Chris Young had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Gardner hit a double.  Beltran hit two doubles and Young hit a double.  Jones, Gardner, Headley and Rodriguez each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Young had a stolen base, Headley committed an error. 

Ben Revere had three hits, Cesar Hernandez had three hits and an RBI and Maikel Franco had two hits, five RBI and drew a walk.  Dominic Brown drew two walks, Andres Blanco had two hits, three RBI and drw a walk and Cameron Rupp had a hit and two RBI.  Hernandez, Blanco, Revere and Franco each hit a double.  Blanco hit a triple and Rupp and Franco each hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Francoeur committed an error. 

In the first Rodriguez hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Jones hit a solo homerun in the second giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the third Hernandez hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  Gardner hit a solo homerun in the third to push the lead to 3-1.  In the fourth Rupp hit a two run homerun to tie the game at three.  Franco hit a three run homerun to give the Phillies a 6-3 lead in the fourth.  In the fifth Headley and Rodriguez hit back-to-back solo homeruns to cut the Phillies lead to 6-5.  Young hit an RBI double to tie the game at six.  In the ninth Franco hit a two run double to give the Phillies an 8-6 lead and Blanco hit a three run triple to make it 11-6 which would be the final score. 

The Yankees will try to avoid the three game sweep on Wednesday afternoon with Ivan Nova making his return from Tommy John surgery.  Cole Hamels will be pitching for the Phillies.
