The New York Yankees defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday afternoon.
The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the
final score was 10-2. Ivan Nova coming
back from Tommy John surgery returned after missing 14 months. Nova pitched great and the offense was very
good. Mark Teixeira had three hits but
five players had two hits.
Nova pitched 6 2/3 innings giving
up no runs and three hits. He walked two
and struck out one and won his first game of the season. Bryan Mitchell pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings
with a strikeout and Diego Moreno pitched an inning giving up three hits and
two runs with a walk and a strikeout.
Cole Hamels lost his sixth game of
the season pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and five runs with
three walks and three strikeouts. Jake
Diekman pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and
Justin De Fratus pitched two innings giving up four hits and four runs with
three walks and three strikeouts.
Brett Gardner had a hit, an RBI and
drew a walk, Chase Headley had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Alex
Rodriguez had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk. Teixeira had three hits and two RBI, Chris
Young had two hits and an RBI and John Ryan Murphy had a hit and drew a
walk. Didi Gregorius had two hits and
drew a walk, Jose Pirela had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gregorius,
Headley and Pirela each hit a double adn the Yankees were 7-21 with runners in
scoring position and left 13 men on base.
Nova committed an error.
Ben Revere had a hit, Cesar
Hernandez drew a walk and Ryan Howard had two hits. Dominic Brown had a hit and an RBI, Andres
Blanco had a hit and Cody Asche had a hit and an RBI. Jonathan Galvis drew two walks, Howard hit
two doubles and Blanco hit a double. The
Phillies were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on
base. Blanco committed an error.
In the second Pirela reached on a
fielder's choice. Two runs scored on an
error and it was 2-0 Yankees. In the
fourth Gardner hit an RBI single to push the Yankees lead to 3-0. Headley hit an RBI double and Teixeira hit an
RBI single and it was 5-0 Yankees. In
the sixth Young hit an RBI single to increase the Yankees lead to 6-0. Pirela hit an RBI double in the seventh and
it was 7-0 Yankees. Rodriguez hit a two
run single in the seventh to make it 9-0 and Teixeira hit an RBI single to give
the Yankees a 10-0 lead. The Phillies
finally got on the board in the ninth with a Brown RBI single and a Asche RBI
groundout. The final score was
10-2. The Yankees will now head to
Houston to take on the Astros in a four game series before heading to Anaheim
for three. The Yankees lost two out of
three in this series but finished the home stand at 5-3.
