The New York Yankees even their series in Houston behind a strong outing from Nathan Eovaldi



The New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros on Friday night.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 3-2.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and pitched very well.  Chris Young had three hits and Brett Gardner and Garrett Jones each had two hits. 

Eovaldi pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Eovaldi won his seventh game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning striking out the side, Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two and saving his fifth game of the season. 

Vincent Velasquez pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Will Harris pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Tony Sipp pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and Joe Thatcher pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out a batter.  Roberto Hernandez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Gardner had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and drew two walks and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Jones had two hits, Young had three hits and three RBI and Stephen Drew had a walk.  Gardner hit a double and Young hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Carlos Correa had a hit and an RBI, Jose Altuve had a hit and Luis Valbuena drew a walk.  Evan Gattis had two hits and an RBI, Colby Rasmus drew a walk and Hank Conger had a hit and drew a walk.  Conger hit a double and the Astros were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Altuve had a stolen base and Gonzalez had a stolen base. 

In the third Correa hit an RBI single to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  Gattis hit an RBI single in the sixth to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Young hit a three run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. 
The two teams have split the first two games of their four game series and will play game three on Saturday afternoon.
