The New York Mets offense erupts in win over the Colorado Rockies



The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.  The game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado and the final score was 14-9 Mets.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and didn't pitch well.  Yoenis Cespedes had a career night and led the offense with five hits and seven RBI. 

Colon pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs.  He walked two and struck out one.  Sean Gilmartin won his second game of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts, Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Tyler Clippard pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout.  Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jon Gray pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and seven runs with a walk.  Christian Bergman pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Christian Friedrich pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and he lost his fourth game of the season.  Gonzalez Germen pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout, Tom Kahnle pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Rafael Betancourt pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Cespedes had five hits and seven RBI.  Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI and Kelly Johnson had two hits and drew a walk.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and an RBI, Michael Conforto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Juan Uribe had a hit.  Cespedes, Flores and Uribe each hit a double.  Cespedes hit three homeruns and d'Arnaud and Conforto each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 5-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Granderson and Cespedes each had a stolen base and Flores committed an error and Granderson had an outfield assist.  Colon had a pickoff. 

Charlie Blackmon had two hits and drew a walk, Carlos Gonzalez had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Nolan Arenado had three hits and four RBI.  Ben Paulsen had a hit and an RBI, D.J. LeMahieu had two hits and two RBI and Nick Hundley had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Arenado hit two doubles, Blackmon and Hundley also hit a double and Hundley hit a triple.  Gonzalez, Paulsen and Arenado each hit a homerun and the Rockies were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Blackmon had two stolen bases and was picked off. 

In the first Duda hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  The Rockies answered back in the first with a Gonzalez solo homerun to tie the game.  In the second the Mets broke it open with six runs to take a 7-1 lead.  Cespedes grand slam was the big blow.  Paulsen hit a solo homerun and Arenado hit an RBI double to make it 7-3 in the third.  LeMahieu hit an RBI single to make it 7-4 in the third inning.  In the fourth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 8-4 Mets.  Arenado hit a three run homerun in the fourth to make it 8-7.  Hundley hit an RBI triple to tie the game at eight in the fifth.  Cespedes hit a two run homerun in the sixth to make it 10-8.  In the seventh d'Arnaud hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 11-8.  Conforto hit a solo homerun in the seventh to make it 12-8.   LeMahieu hit an RBI ground out in the seventh to make it a 12-9 game and then the Mets scored a couple of more runs to make it 14-9 which would be the final score.
