The New York Yankees lose the rubber game to the Houston Astros



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-2 Astros.  Michael Pineda made his return from the disabled list and looked good early on but then lost it in the fifth inning.  The Yankees offense was a Didi Gregorius two run homerun and that was it. 

Pineda pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Pineda lost his eighth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Branden Pinder pitched two innings giving up a walk and a strikeout and Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts.  Nick Goody pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Collin McHugh won his 14th game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Tony Sipp pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout, Pat Neshek pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Will Harris pitched a scoreless inning. 

Carlos Beltran had a hit and drew two walks, Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Gregorius had two hits and two RBI, Chris Young had a hit and Gregorius  hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Jose Altuve had a hit and an RBI, Marwin Gonzalez had a hit and an RBI and Jed Lowrie drew a walk.  Colby Rasmus had a hit, Evan Gattis had two hits and two RBI and Carlos Gomez had a hit and drew a walk.  Luis Valbuena had two hits, Jake Marisnick had a hit and an RBI and Jason Castro had a hit and drew a walk.  Castro hit a double and Gattis hit two homeruns.  The Astros were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Altuve and Gomez each had a stolen base and Castro had a passed ball. 

In the first Gattis hit a solo homerun to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth the Astros broke open the game a little bit.  Marisnick hit an RBI single, Altuve hit a sac fly, Gonzalez hit an RBI single and a wild pitch made it 5-0 Astros.   In the seventh Gregorius hit a two run homerun to make it a 5-2 game.  Gattis hit a homerun in the eighth to make it 6-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees lost two out of three in this series and after starting their homestand 3-0 finished 5-5 which isn't very good.  They will be off on Thursday before traveling to Atlanta to take on the Braves Friday night in the start of a three game series.
