New York Yankees erupt in Boston for a big win



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 9-4.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees but left after one inning with elbow pain.  The Yankees used a lot of pitchers and the bullpen did a good job.  Gary Sanchez led the offense with four hits including his first major league homerun. 

Eovaldi pitched a perfect inning, Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Blake Parker pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk.  Nick Goody pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked two, Tommy Layne pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up three hits and a walk.  Clippard won his third game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched two perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Drew Pomeranz pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Clay Bucholz pitched to two batters and retired them both, Matt Barnes pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs and Fernando Abad pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two htis and two runs with a strikeout.  He lost his sixth game of the season.  Junichi Tazawa pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks, Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout.   Brad Ziegler pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Chase Headley had two hits and an RBI.  Mark Teixeira had a hit and drew two walks, Starlin Castro had a hit and two RBI adn Didi Gregorius had two hits and an RBI.  Sanchez had four hits and an RBI, Austin Romine had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Rob Refsnyder had a hit, Castro hit a double and Gregorius and Sanchez each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury had an outfield assist. 

Dustin Pedroia had two hits and an RBI, Xander Bogaerts had an RBI and drew a walk and Mookie Betts had two hits and an RBI.  David Ortiz drew three walks, Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits and Travis Shaw drew a walk.  Sandy Leon had two hits and drew a walk, Andrew Benintendi had a hit and an RBI and Pedroia hit a double and Betts hit two doubles.  The Red Sox were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. 

In the third Betts grounded into a force out to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Benintendi grounded into a force out and it was 2-0 Red Sox.  Gregorius hit a solo homerun in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Pedroia hit an RBI single to push the Red Sox lead to 3-1.  Bogaerts grounded into a force out in the sixth to make the score 4-1.  In the seventh Romine hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single in the seventh making it 4-3 and Headley hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  Castro hit a two run double still in the seventh and it was 6-4 Yankees.  In the eighth Sanchez hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 7-4.  A wild pitch made it 8-4 and another wild pitch made it 9-4 all in the eighth inning. 

The two teams have split the first two games and will play the final of three games on Thursday night.
