New York Yankees offense breaks out and pounds the Cleveland Indians



The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 13-7.  Michael Pineda started and he pitched ok, Johnny Barbato struggled out of the bullpen.  Starlin Castro hit his first career grand slam, Jacoby Ellsbury had four hits and Gary Sanchez had a couple of RBI. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up six hits and a walk with six strikeouts.  He won his sixth game of the season.  Richard Bleier retired both batters that he faced, Tyler Clippard pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Johnny Barbato gave up three hits and three runs with a walk and he didn't record an out.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Nick Goody pitched an inning giving up two walks and two strikeouts. 

Josh Tomlin lost his fourth game of the season pitching 4 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Zach McAllister pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Shawn Morimando pitched an inning giving up three hits and four runs with four walks and a strikeout and Kyle Crockett pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and two RBI, Ellsbury had four hits and an RBI and Mark Teixeira had two hits and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Chase Headley had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Castro had two hits, four RBI and drew two walks.  Sanchez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Rob Refsnyder had two hits and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Teixeira, Ellsbry, McCann and Sanchez each hit a double and Garner hit a triple.  Castro and Hicks each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 7-13 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Carlos Santana had a hit and drew a walk, Jeff Kipnis had a hit and drew a walk and Francisco Lindor had a hit.  Mike Napoli had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Jose Ramirez had three hits and Brandon Guyer had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Naquin had an RBI, Abraham Almonte had two hits and an RBI and Chris Gimenez had a hit and three RBI.  Almonte and Ramirez each hit a double and Gimenez hit a homerun.  The Indians were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Kipnis and Napoli were each caught stealing. 

In the first McCann hit an RBI groundout giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third McCann hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.  Castro hit a grand slam and the score was 6-0 Yankees still in the third.  In the fifth Gimenez hit a three run homerun to cut the lead to 6-3.  Sanchez hit an RBI double in the fifth to push the lead to 7-3.  Headley hit an RBI single in the sixth making it a 8-3 game and Sanchez had an RBI walk making it 9-3.  In the seventh Naquin hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 9-4.  Hikcs hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh and it was 10-4.  Ellsbury hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 11-4.  In the eighth Napoli hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 11-5, Guyer hit an RBI single to make it 11-6 and Almonte hit a sac fly to make it 11-7.  Gardner hit a two run single in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 13-7 game which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.  The Yankees will try to make it two in a row and get to two games over 500.
