The New York Yankees have had quite a week, first Mark Teixeira announced his retirement and now so did Alex Rodriguez although it was more of a forced retirement into a consulting role.  The Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched very well and the bullpen did a pretty good job.  The Yankees offense only managed five hits.

Carlos Carrasco pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and nine strikeouts.  Carrasco lost his sixth game of the season.  Cody Allen pitched a perfect inning striking out the side.

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI.  Brian McCann drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI and Rob Refsnyder had a hit.  Teixeira hit a double, Gardner hit a triple and Gregorius hit a homerun.  the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Refsnyder, Gregorius and Romine each committed an error.

Jason Kipnis drew a walk, Francisco Lindor had a hit and Mike Napoli had a hit.  Jose Ramirez had two hits and drew a walk, Rajai Davis had a hit and drew a walk and Roberto Perez had two hits and an RBI.  Chris Gimenez had a hit, Perez and Davis each hit a double and the Indians were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and they left nine men on base.

In the first Ellsbury hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 2-0.  Teixeira hit an RBI double in the fifth and it was 3-0 Yankees.  In the seventh Perez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1 and then a wild pitch made it 3-2 in the eighth and that would be the final score.

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will have an off day on Monday.  They will head to Boston for a three game series beginning on Tuesday night and then return home on Friday night for the final game of Alex Rodriguez career.
