New York Yankees avoid sweep in Baltimore



The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 5-2.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched ok, the bullpen was great.  Austin Romine had two RBI. 

Pineda pitched four innings giving up two runs on five hits.  He walked two and struck out four.  Luis Severino pitched two innings giving up two walks and two strikeouts and he earned his second win of the season, Tommy Layne pitched to one batter retiring him and Adam Warren pitched to two batters retiring them both.  Tyler Clippard pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Dellin Betances pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two and he saved his eighth game of the season. 

Wade Miley pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs with four walks and four strikeouts and he suffered his 12th loss of the season.  Vance Worley pitched two innings giving up a hit and three walks with a strikeout, Oliver Drake pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a unearned run and he struck out one and Donnie Hart pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Brett Gardner had an RBI and drew two walks, Rob Refsnyder had a hit and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez drew two walks.  Headley had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Romine had a hit and two RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Tyler Austin had a hit, Ronald Torreyes drew a walk and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Adam Jones had two hits, Pedro Alvarez had a hit and an RBI and Manny Machado had a hit.  Mark Trumbo drew two walks, Chris Davis had two hits and drew a walk and Steve Pearce had an RBI and drew a walk.  Alvarez hit a double and the Orioles were 0-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Trumbo committed an error. 

In the first Headley hit an RBI single and Romine hit a two run single to make it 3-0.  Headley hit an RBI single in the third to make it 4-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Pearce hit an RBI groundout to make it 4-1 Yankees.  Alvarez hit an RBI double in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the ninth Gardner hit a sac fly to give the Yankees an insurance run and a 5-2 lead.  The final score would be 5-2. 

The Yankees salvaged the final game of the series and will head home to start a three game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday afternoon.
