The New York Mets get past the Atlanta Braves with a late rally



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 6-4.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched just ok, the bullpen was good.  Yoenis Cespedes and Curtis Granderson each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Jim Henderson pitched giving up two hits without recording an out, Josh Smoker pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Hansel Robles picked up his sixth win of the season pitching an inning and walking two with a strikeout.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one with two strikeouts and earned his 48th save of the season. 

Julio Teheran pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Ian Krol pitched an inning with a strikeout, Mauricio Cabrera pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with three of them being earned and three walks.  Jose Ramirez pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out both batters and Chaz Roe pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk, Cespedes had two hits and an RBI and Granderson had two hits, three RBI and drew two walks.   Kelly Johnson had a hit and an RBI, Jay Bruce drew a walk and Michael Conforto had an RBI.  Alejandro De Aza drew a walk, Cabrera hit a double and Johnson hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Adonis Garcia had two hits and an RBI, Freddie Freeman had a hit and Matt Kemp had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Nick Markakis had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Tyler Flowers had a hit and Jace Peterson had two hits.  Dansby Swanson had three hits and drew a walk, Peterson and Garcia each hit a double and Kemp hit a homerun.  The Braves were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Kemp had a stolen base and Swanson committed an error. 

In the second Kemp hit a solo homerun to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Garcia hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  Markakis hit a two run single still in the fifth and it was 4-0 Braves.  Granderson hit a two run homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2.  Cespedes hit a sac fly in the eighth to cut the lead to 4-3.  Granderson hit an RBI single to tie the game at four still in the eighth.  Johnson hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 5-4 lead in the eighth.  Conforto was hit by a pitch still in the eighth and it was 6-4 Mets which was the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.
