New York Mets defeat the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-6.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well.  The Mets bullpen did pitch well and Nori Aoki had three hits and Travis d’Arnaud had four RBI to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up four hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out four.  Chasen Bradford won his second game of the season and pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Paul Sewald pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one and Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him.  AJ Ramos pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Josh Smoker pitched to one batter and retired him and Jeurys Familia pitched to one batter and struck him out and saved his fourth game of the season. 

Edwin Jackson pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Oliver Perez pitched to one batter and retired him, Joe Blanton lost his fourth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Enny Romero pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Matt Albers pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Aoki had three hits and two RBI, Jose Reyes had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks.  d’Arnaud had two hits and four RBI, Dominic Smith had a hit and Amed Rosario had a hit.  Juan Lagares had two hits, Lagares hit a double and Aoki hit a double.  d’Arnaud hit two homeruns and the Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Aoki, Lagares each had a stolen base and Rosario was caught stealing.  Rosario and Sewald each committed an error. 

Wilmer Difo had a hit and drew a walk, Alejandro De Aza each had a hit and Howie Kendrick had two hits and an RBI.  Adam Lind had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks, Victor Robles had a hit and two RBI and Rafael Bautista drew a walk.  Kendrick hti a double and DeAza and Robles each hit a triple and Lind hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  De Aza had two outfields. 

d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun to make it 1-0 Mets.  In the third Lind hit a three-run homerun to give the Nationals a 3-1 lead.  In the fifth Kendrick hit an RBI double to make it a 4-1 lead.  Robles hit a two-run triple to extend the lead to 6-1.  In the fifth Aoki hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2.  Cabrera hit an RBI single to make it 6-3 and d’Arnaud hit a three-run homerun to tie the game at six.  In the bottom of the sixth Aoki hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 7-6 lead and that would be the final score.

The New York Mets defeat the Atlanta Braves and take the series


The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 5-1.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched very well.  Nori Aoki had three hits to lead the Mets. 

Gsellman won his seventh game of the season pitching seven innings giving up three hits and an unearned run.  He walked none and struck out three.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and AJ Ramos pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and struck out one. 

Julio Teheran pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs.  He walked four and struck out seven and lost his 12th game of the season.  Sam Freeman pitched an inning with a walk, A.J. Minter pitched 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts, Jose Ramirez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout and Rex Brothers pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Aoki had three hits, Jose Reyes had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Brandon Nimmo drew two walks.  Dominic Smith drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI and Phillip Evans had a hit and an RBI.  Gsellman drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and two RBI.  Evans hit a double, Reyes and Aoki each hit a triple and Cabrera hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rosario and Aoki had a stolen base and Rosario committed two errors. 

Ender Inciarte had a hit, Ozzie Albies drew a walk and Freddie Freeman had a hit.  Johan Camargo had two hits.  Jace Peterson had an RBI, Mat Adams drew a walk and Freeman hit a double.  The Braves were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Albies committed an error and Inciarte had an outfield assist. 

In the first Reyes hit an RBI triple to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Rosario hit an RBI ground out and the lead was extended to 2-0.  IN the seventh Peterson hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the ninth Evans hit an RBI double to make it a 3-1 lead.  Cabrera hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score.

The New York Mets fall to the Chicago Cubs


The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 8-3.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched just ok.  Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched four innings giving up four innings giving up five hits and four runs with five walks and four strikeouts.  Gsellman lost his seventh game of the season.  Tommy Milone pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk, Jacob Rhame pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Chris Flexen pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Carlos Quintana won his 10th game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Carl Edwards Jr. pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Justin Wilson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Pedro Strop pitched to two batters and retired them both.

Jose Reyes had a hit and drew a walk, Nori Aoki had an RBI and Cabrera had three hits.  Travis d’Arnaud had an RBI, Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk and Amed Rosario had two hits.  Travis Taijeron had an RBI, Matt Reynolds drew a walk and Cabrera and Lagares each hit a double.  The Mets were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Reyes was picked off. 

Ben Zobrist had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Kris Bryant had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit.  Willson Contreras drew three walks, Ian Happ had a hit and an RBI and Kyle Schwarber had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Jayson Heyward had a hit, Javier Baez had a hit and drew a walk and Quintana had an RBI.  Albert Almora Jr. had a hit, Zobrist and Baez each hit a double and Bryant, Schwarber and Happ each hit a homerun.  The Cubs were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Zobrist was caught stealing and Contreras was caught stealing also.  Quintana had a pickoff. 

In the fourth Taijeron hit an RBI ground out to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Quintana hit a sac bunt and a run scored to tie the game at one.  Bryant hit a three-run homerun to give the Cubs a 4-1 lead.  In the fifth d’Arnaud hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the fifth Schwarber hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 5-2.  In the sixth Zobrist hit an RBI single to make it a 6-2 game.  In the seventh Happ hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 7-2 lead.  In the eighth Bryant hit a sac fly to make it 8-2 and in the ninth Aoki hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 8-3 and that was the final score.

New York Mets sweep a doubleheader from the Atlanta Braves


The New York Mets swept a doubleheader from the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.  The games took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score were 6-1 and 8-1.  In the first game Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and pitched very well and in the second game it was Steven Matz making his season debut and he pitched very well also.  In the first game Yoenis Cespedes led the offense with a couple of hits and four RBI and in the second game Wilmer Flores had four hits. 

Gsellman pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Gsellman won his fifth game of the season.  Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and struck him out, Fernando Salas pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run and Josh Edgin pitched to one batter giving up a hit.  Addison Reed pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and recorded his 10th save of the season. 

Sean Newcomb pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.  He walked two and struck out seven and lost his first game of the season.  Jason Motte pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk and Luke Jackson pitched two innings giving up three hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Michael Conforto drew two walks and Cespedes had two hits and four RBI.  Flores had two hits and an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and T.J. Rivera had an RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit and drew a walk, Gsellman drew a walk and Lagares hit a double and Cespedes hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Cabrera committed two errors and Reyes committed an error. 

Ender Inciarte had a hit, Brandon Phillips had two hits and an RBI and Matt Adams had a hit and drew a walk.  Danny Santana had a hit, Rio Ruiz drew a walk and Dansby Swanson had a hit.  Phillips hit a double and he hit a homerun.  The Braves were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Newcomb and Adams each committed an error. 

In the second T. Rivera hit a sac fly giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Flores hit a sac fly to make it 2-0 and Phillips hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the ninth Cespedes hit a grand slam to extend the lead to 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

In the second game Matz pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Matz won his first game of the season.  Neil Ramirez pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Tyler Pill pitched a perfect inning. 

Matt Wisler started for the Braves and he pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out seven and lost his first game of the season.  Sam Freeman pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout, Eric O’Flaherty pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with two strikeouts and Jason Motte pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Michael Conforto drew two walks, Jose Reyes had a hit and drew a walk and Jay Bruce had two hits and three RBI.  Neil Walker had two hits and drew two walks, Flores had four hits and Curtis Granderson had a hit.  Juan Lagares had a hit and two RBI, d’Arnaud had an RBI and T. Rivera had a hit and two RBI.  Granderson and Lagares each hit a double and Flores hit two doubles.  Flores hit a triple and Bruce and T. Rivera each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base. 

Brandon Phillips had a hit, Nick Markakis drew two walks and Dansby Swanson had a hit.  Johan Camargo had two hits and an RBI, Lane Adams had a hit and Swanson hit a double.  The Braves were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Santana and Adams each committed an error. 

In the fifth Bruce hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the sixth d’Arnaud hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the seventh Camargo hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  T. Rivera hit a two-run homerun in the eighth to make it 6-1 and Lagares hit a two-run double in the ninth to push the lead to 8-1 which would be the final score. 

The Mets will finish their series with the Braves on Sunday afternoon.

New York Mets defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates


The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen also pitched well and Neil Walker and Lucas Duda each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He walked two and struck out six and won his fourth game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Addison Reed pitched two innings giving up two hits and he walked one and earned his eighth save of the season. 

Tyler Glasnow pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out five and took his fifth loss of the season.  Johnny Barbato pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Wade LeBlanc pitched a perfect inning. 

Michael Conforto drew two walks, Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk and Jay Bruce had a hit and an RBI.  Walker had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Duda had two hits and Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI.  Gsellman had a hit, Duda hit a double and walker, Bruce and Flores each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Walker was caught stealing and Cabrera committed an error. 

Adam Frazier had a hit, Josh Harrison had two hits and Gregory Polanco had an RBI.  David Freese had a hit, Josh Bell had a hit and an RBI and Andrew McCutchen drew two walks.  Jordy Mercer had three hits, Elias Diaz had two hits and drew a walk and Mercer hit two doubles and Bell hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Diaz had a passed ball. 

In the first Walker hit a two-run homerun to make it 2-0 Mets.  In the second Bell hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Polanco hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at two.  Bruce hit a solo homerun in the third to give the Mets a 3-2 lead and in the fourth Flores hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two games and will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

New York Mets defeat the Milwaukee Brewers behind a strong start by Robert Gsellman


The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well and Wilmer Flores had three hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched seven innings giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five and won his third game of the season.  Paul Sewald pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Addison Reed saved his seventh game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits with two strikeouts. 

Matt Garza lost his second game of the season pitching 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs.  He walked two and struck out four.  Rob Scahill pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter, Oliver Drake pitched an inning with a strikeout and Neftali Feliz pitched a perfect inning. 

Michael Conforto had a hit, Jay Bruce drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk, Flores had three hits and Rene Rivera had a hit and an RBI, Gsellman had two RBI and R. Rivera and Conforto each hit a double.  The Mets were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cabrera committed an error. 

Keon Broxton had an RBI, Eric Thames drew a walk and Jesus Aguilar had a hit.  Travis Shaw had a hit and drew a walk, Domingo Santana had two hits and an RBI.  Orlando Arcia had a hit, Santana hit a homerun and the Brewers were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the fifth Broxton hit an RBI ground out to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth R. Rivera hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Gsellman hit a sac fly to make it a 2-1 game and Conforto hit an RBI double to push the lead to 3-1.  In the sixth Santana hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the sixth Gsellman drew an RBI walk to make it 4-2 and that would be the final score.

New York Mets blow lead and lose to the San Diego Padres


The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-5.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Michael Conforto, Wilmer Flores and Neil Walker each had two hits to lead the offense.   

Gsellman pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Fernando Salas pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and a strikeout, Neil Ramirez pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him.  Josh Smoker took his second loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run and Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Jarred Cosart pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with four walks and a strikeout, Jose Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Kevin Quackenbush pitched two innings giving up three walks and a strikeout.  Ryan Buchter pitched an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout and he won his third game of the season, Brandon Maurer pitched an inning with a strikeout and Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Hand also got his first save of the season. 

Conforto had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Jose Reyes drew two walks and Walker had two hits.  Lucas Duda drew three walks, Flores had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Flores and Lagares each hit a double and the Mets were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. 

Matt Szczur had a hit and drew two walks, Yangervis Solarte had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Wil Myers had two hits and two RBI.  Hunter Renfroe had a hit and an RBI, Allen Cordoba had two hits and Luis Torrens had two hits.  Chase d’Arnaud had a hit, Myers, Torrens and Solarte each hit a double and Renfroe hit a homerun.  The Padres were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  d’Arnaud had a stolen base and Myers was caught stealing.  Renfroe committed an error. 

In the third Solarte hit an RBI single to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.  In the third Flores hit a three-run double to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.  Granderson hit an RBI single and it was 4-1 Mets.  In the fourth Conforto hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1.  Solarte hit a two-run double in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the seventh Myers hit a two-run single to tie the game at five.  In the eighth Renfroe hit a solo homerun to give the Padres a 6-5 lead and that would be the final score. 

They will play the rubber game on Thursday night.

The New York Mets crush the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 11-3.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched ok.  The Mets bullpen was good and Jose Reyes and Jay Bruce each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up eight hits and three runs with two strikeouts.  Gsellman won his second game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits, Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him and Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning.  Paul Sewald pitched wo perfect innings. 

Odrisamer Despaigne pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and eight runs with three of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out four and took his first loss of the season.  Dustin McGowan pitched two innings giving up two hits and three runs with three walks and a strikeout and Junichi Tazawa pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings. 

Michael Conforto had two RBI and drew three walks, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI and Wilmer Flores had an RBI.  Bruce had two hits and three RBI, Neil Walker had a hit and Curtis Granderson drew two walks.  T.J. Rivera had a hit and an RBI, Reyes had two hits and an RBI and Kevin Plawecki had an RBI.  Gsellman drew a walk, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Cabrera and Walker each hit a double.  Bruce hit two doubles.  The Mets were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Dee Gordon had a hit, Marcell Ozuna had two hits and two RBI and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and an RBI.  J.T. Realmuto had three hits, Miguel Rojas had two hits and Realmuto hit a double and Stanton and Ozuna each hit a homerun.  The Marlins were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gordon had a stolen base and Bour, Prado and Ozuna each committed an error and Realmuto had a passed ball.

New York Mets are crushed by the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 8-1.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched ok, the bullpen wasn’t very good.  The offense only managed three hits. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Gsellman took his first loss of the season.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Paul Sewald pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs.  Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Rafael Montero pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and Fernando Salas pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Adam Conley pitched five innings giving up a hit and a run with three walks and six strikeouts and earned his first win of the season.  Brad Ziegler pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and David Phelps pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Jose Urena pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk and Ty Rivera drew a walk.  Duda hit a homerun and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Flores committed an error. 

J.T. Realmuto had three hits and two RBI, Miguel Rojas had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks and Giancarlo Stanton had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Justin Bour drew two walks, Marcell Ozuna  had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Derek Dietrich drew a walk.  Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and Dee Gordon had a hit and an RBI.  Rojas hit a double and Realmuto hit a triple.  Ozuna hit a homerun and the Marlins were 5-15 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Yelich had a stolen base. 

In the first Stanton hit an RBI single giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the second Ozuna hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  Rojas hit a sac fly in the third to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Duda hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Ozuna hit an RBI single and it was 4-1 Marlins.  In the eighth Realmuto hit an RBI single and Rojas hit a sac bunt that scored a run to make it 6-1.  In the ninth Gordon hit an RBI ground out and Realmuto hit an RBI single to make it an 8-1 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the series finale on Sunday night.

New York Mets played to a tie with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 3-3.  Robert Gsellman pitched just ok for the Mets.  Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Cespedes had two hits, Walker had two hits and Lucas Duda had a hit and three RBI.  Walker hit a double, Cespedes hit a triple and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the fourth Matt Adams hit a three-run homerun to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead and in the bottom of the fourth Duda hit a three-run homerun to tie the game and that was how it would end.

New York Mets lose to the Washington Nationals in pitching duel


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida and the final score was 1-0.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets only had four hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Gsellman pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run with two walks and two strikeouts.  Gsellman lost his second game of the spring.  Josh Smoker pitched to two batters and retired them both, Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Ty Kelly had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Xorge Carrillo had a hit and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Cabrera committed an error. 

In the third Anthony Rendon hit an RBI double to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead and that would be the only scoring in the game.

The New York Mets defeat the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the final score was 5-4.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Kevin Plawecki had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter giving up a walk and a run, Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.   Ben Rowen pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Corey Taylor pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and he picked up his fourth save of the spring. 

Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, Michael Conforto had a hit and Wilmer Flores had an RBI and drew a walk.  Gavin Cecchini had a hit, Luis Carpio had a hit and Plawecki had two hits and an RBI.  Xorge Carrillo had a hit and an RBI, Tim Tebow had a hit and Matt Reynolds had an RBI.  Andres Gimenez had a hit, Taijereon had a hit and Carpio and Carrillo each hit a double.  Conforto  hit a triple and Lagares and Plawecki each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Yoenis Cespedes and L.J. Mazzilli each committed an error and Plawecki had a passed ball. 

In the first Randal Grichuk hit an RBI single to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the second Reynolds hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the third Lagares hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 2-1 lead, Flores hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 3-1.  In the sixth Plawecki hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Harrison Bader hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-2.  A wild pitch in the eighth made it 4-3 and Patrick Wisdom hit a sac fly to tie the game at four.  In the ninth Carrillo hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 5-4 lead and that was the final score.

New York Mets were defeated by the Houston Astros


The New York Mets were defeated by the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in Florida and the final score was 12-2.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched ok but not great.  The offense had six hits but no one had more than a hit.   

Gsellman pitched two innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and a strikeout.  Gsellman took the loss.  Josh Edgin pitched an inning with a strikeout, Logan Taylor pitched an inning giving up three hits and five runs with three of them being earned and he walked two and struck out one.  Kevin McGowan pitched a perfect inning, Sean Gilmartin pitched two innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts and David Roseboom pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Juan Lagares had an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Blake Tiberi had a hit, Phillip Evans had a hit and Travis Taijeron had a hit and drew a walk.  Tomas Nido had a hit, Tiberi hit a double and Cabrera hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Evans committed an error, Nido had a passed ball and Egin had a pickoff. 

In the first Yulieski Gurriel hit a two-run double to give the Astros a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Cabrera hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth J.D. Davis drew an RBI walk to make it 3-1.  A passed ball made it 4-1 still in the fourth and Jake Marisnick hit a two-run single to make it 6-1.  George Springer hit a sac fly to push the lead to 7-1 still in the fourth.  In the fifth Lagares hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 7-2.  In the seventh Teoscar Hernandez hit a solo homerun to make it an 8-2 game.  Colin Moran hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 9-2.  Tyler White hit an RBI single to give Houston a 10-2 lead in the seventh and in the eighth A.J. Reed hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 12-2 which was the final score.

New York Mets defeat the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie and the final score was 11-6.  Robert Gsellman started and pitched well for the Mets and Addison Reed and Jeurys Familia also pitched well.  Phillip Evans led the offense with a couple of hits and five RBI. 

Gsellman pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Reed pitched a perfect inning, Familia earned the win pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Tom Gorzelanny pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Erik Goeddel pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and David Roseboom pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs.  Hansel Robles pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out three. 

Evans had two hits and five RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI.  Curtis Granderson had a hit, Brandon Nimmo had three hits and Neil Walker had two hits and two RBI.  Gavin Cecchini had a hit, Jay Bruce drew a walk and Travis Taijeron had a hit.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Dominic Smith drew a walk and Travis d’Arnaud had two hits.  Tomas Nido had a hit, Matt Reynolds had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Reynolds hit a double.  Cespedes, Walker and Evans each hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

In the fourth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Walker hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  A wild pitch made it a 4-0 game still in the fourth inning.  In the fifth Derek Dietrich hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Flores hit an RBI single to make it a 5-1 game and then Evans hit a grand slam to extend the lead to 9-1.  In the seventh Tomas Telis hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 9-2.  Yefri Perez hit an RBI double to make it a 9-3 game.  In the seventh Reynolds hit an RBI double to make it 10-3 and then Evans  hit an RBI single to push it to 11-3.  In the eighth J.T. Riddle hit into a force out and it was 11-4 and then Isaac Galloway hit an RBI single to cut it to 11-5 and Telis hit an RBI single to make it 11-6 which would be the final score.

The New York Mets clinch at least a tie for the wild card with victory over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.  The game took place at Citizens Ban Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-1.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen did their job.  Jay Bruce led the offense with three hits and three RBI. 

Gsellman pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  He won his fourth game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning walking one and striking out two. 

Alec Asher pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Michael Mariot pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout, Joely Rodriguez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Luis Garcia pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI and Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walik.  Bruce had three hits and three RBI, TJ Rivera had a hit and an RBI and Rene Rivera had a hit.  Alejando De Aza had a hit, Bruce hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

Cesar Hernandez had a hit, Freddy Galvis had a hit and Odubel Herrera had a hit.  Maikel Franco had a hit, Ryan Howard had a hit and Cameron Rupp had two hits and an RBI.  Aaron Altherr drew two walks, Howard hit a double and the Phillies were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Altherr committed an error. 

In the second Rupp hit a sac fly to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Bruce hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the fourth T.J. Rivera hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Bruce hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1.  In the eighth Cespedes hit a pop up that was a force out and a run scored to make it 4-1.  Bruce hit an RBI single in the eighth and it was 5-1 Mets which was the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.

New York Mets completely run over the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 17-0.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well and the bullpen finished it off without a hit allowed.  Jose Reyes had four RBI, Jay Bruce, Asdrubal Cabrera, TJ Rivera and Rene Rivera each had two hits. 

Gsellman pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched an inning striking out the side and Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning. 

Jake Thompson pitched four innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and a strikeout.  He lost his sixth game of the season.  Phil Klein pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks, Colton Murray pitched two innings giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts and Frank Herrmann pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Patrick Schuster pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and five runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Luis Garcia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Reyes had a hit and four RBI with two walks, Cabrera had two hits and four RBI and Eric Campbell had a hit and two RBI.  Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk, Ty Kelly drew a walk and Curtis Granderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI, Bruce had two hits and TJ Rivera had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  James Loney had a hit, Rene Rivera had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Gsellman had a hit.  Bruce, Reyes and Conforto each hit a double.  Gradnerson and Cabrera each hit a homerun and the Mets were 7-17 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Bruce committed an error and Rene Rivera had a passed ball. 

In the second Loney grounded into a double play and the Mets took a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Granderson hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  Reyes walks to push it to 3-0, in the fifth T.J. Rivera hit an RBI single and it was 4-0 Mets.  R. Rivera was hit by a pitch still in the fifth to make it 5-0 and a wild pitch made it 6-0.  In the seventh Reyes drew an RBI walk to extend the Mets lead to 7-0 and Cabrera hit a grand slam still in the seventh and it was 11-0 Mets.  In the eighth Reyes hit a two run double to make it 13-0 and Campbell hit a two run single and it was 15-0.  Conforto hit a two run double in the eighth to finish the scoring at 17-0. 

The Mets will head to Miami to take on the Marlins on Monday night in the first game since Jose Fernandez death for the Marlins.

The New York Mets get shutout by the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday evening.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 1-0.  Robert Gsellman pitched well for the Mets and the bullpen was ok.  The Mets offense only managed three hits. 

Gsellman pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits and no runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Josh Smoker pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Fernando Salas lost his seventh game of the season pitching two innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Tanner Roark pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs with four walks and seven strikeouts.  Roark won his 15th game of the season.  Blake Treinen pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Mark Melancon pitched a perfect inning saving his 42nd game of the season. 

Jose Reyes had a hit, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Jay Bruce had a hit and TJ Rivera drew a walk.  Rene Rivera drew a walk and the Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Trea Turner had two hits, Daniel Murphy had a hit and drew a walk and Bryce Harper drew a walk.  Wilson Ramos had a hit and an RBI, Ryan Zimmerman had a hit and Roark had a hit.  Ramos hit a homerun and the Nationals were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Turner and Harper were each caught stealing.  Ramos had a passed ball. 

In the seventh Ramos hit a solo homerun to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  1-0 would be the final score as the Mets lost two out of three in this series.  The Mets have the day off on Thursday and they will begin a series with the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.

The New York Mets get past the Atlanta Braves with a late rally



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 6-4.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched just ok, the bullpen was good.  Yoenis Cespedes and Curtis Granderson each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Jim Henderson pitched giving up two hits without recording an out, Josh Smoker pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Hansel Robles picked up his sixth win of the season pitching an inning and walking two with a strikeout.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one with two strikeouts and earned his 48th save of the season. 

Julio Teheran pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Ian Krol pitched an inning with a strikeout, Mauricio Cabrera pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with three of them being earned and three walks.  Jose Ramirez pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out both batters and Chaz Roe pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk, Cespedes had two hits and an RBI and Granderson had two hits, three RBI and drew two walks.   Kelly Johnson had a hit and an RBI, Jay Bruce drew a walk and Michael Conforto had an RBI.  Alejandro De Aza drew a walk, Cabrera hit a double and Johnson hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Adonis Garcia had two hits and an RBI, Freddie Freeman had a hit and Matt Kemp had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks.  Nick Markakis had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Tyler Flowers had a hit and Jace Peterson had two hits.  Dansby Swanson had three hits and drew a walk, Peterson and Garcia each hit a double and Kemp hit a homerun.  The Braves were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Kemp had a stolen base and Swanson committed an error. 

In the second Kemp hit a solo homerun to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Garcia hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  Markakis hit a two run single still in the fifth and it was 4-0 Braves.  Granderson hit a two run homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2.  Cespedes hit a sac fly in the eighth to cut the lead to 4-3.  Granderson hit an RBI single to tie the game at four still in the eighth.  Johnson hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 5-4 lead in the eighth.  Conforto was hit by a pitch still in the eighth and it was 6-4 Mets which was the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.
