New York Mets lose in Arizona


The New York Mets were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.  The game took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and the final score was 7-3.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was bad.  The Mets offense managed four hits. 

Wheeler pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and five runs.  He walked walked one and struck out one and took his first loss of the season and Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Zach Godley started for the Diamondbacks pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with five walks and seven strikeouts.  J.J. Hoover pitched to one batter and struck him out, Jorge De La Rosa won his second game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Silvino Bracho pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with three strikeouts. 

Jay Bruce drew a walk, Neil Walker had a hit and Lucas Duda drew a walk.  Jose Reyes drew a walk, Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk and Rene Rivera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit and two RBI, Walker hit a double and Flores hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Granderson had an assist. 

Ray Fuentes had a hit, Chris Owings had two hits and drew a walk and Paul Goldschmidt had two hits.  Jake Lamb had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Yasmany Tomas had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Brandon Drury had a hit.  Jeff Mathis had two hits and two RBI, Godley had a hit and Daniel Descalso had a hit and an RBI.  Goldschmidt hit two doubles and Drury hit a double.  Lamb, Tomas, Mathis and Descalso each hit a homerun and the Diamondbacks were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Godley committed an error. 

R. Rivera hit an RBI single in the second to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Lamb hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the eighth Tomas hit a three-run homerun, Mathis hit a two-run homerun and Descalso hit a solo homerun to give the Diamondbacks a 7-1 lead.  Flores hit a two-run homerun in the ninth to cut the lead to 7-3 and that would be the final score. 
The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night
