Yankees win second in a row in Kansas City


The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Kaufmann Stadium and the final score was 11-7.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched ok, the bullpen pitched well for the most part.  Starlin Castro had three hits and five other players had two hits to lead the offense. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five and won his fourth game of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him, Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one and Giovanny Gallegos pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up five hits and three runs with a strikeout.  Dellin Betances earned his first save of the season pitching to one batter and retiring him. 

Jason Vargas pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Vargas lost his second game of the season.  Peter Moylan pitched an inning giving up four hits and four runs with two walks, Seth Maness pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Travis Wood pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Al Alburquerque pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and two RBI, Gary Sanchez had two hits and drew a walk and Matt Holliday had two hits.  Castro had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew two walks and Chase Headley had a hit and two RBI.  Didi Gregorius had two hits and two RBI, Aaron Hicks had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Chris Carter had a hit and an RBI.  Castro hit two doubles and Gardner hit a triple.  Hicks hit a homerun and the Yankees were 5-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Headley committed two errors. 

Alcides Escobar had a hit and an RBI, Mike Moustakas had two hits and an RBI and Lorenzo Cain had a hit.  Cheslor Cuthbert had a hit and two RBI, Eric Hosmer had a hit and drew a walk and Salvador Perez had a hit and two RBI.  Jorge Soler had a hit, Brandon Moss had a hit and Whit Merrifield had a hit and an RBI.  Alex Gordon had a hit and drew a walk, Perez and Merrifield each hit a homerun.  The Royals were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cain had a stolen base and Gordon had an outfield assist. 

In the first Castro hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Gregorius hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0 and Hicks hit a three-run homerun to push the lead to 5-0.  Gardner hit an RBI triple to make it 6-0.  In the fourth Perez hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 6-2.  In the fifth Headley hit an RBI single and Gregorius hit an RBI single to make it an 8-2 lead.  Carter hit an RBI ground out to push the lead to 9-2 and Gardner hit a sac fly to make it 10-2.  In the bottom of the fifth Merrifield hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 10-3.  In the seventh Escobar hit a sac fly making it a 10-4 game.  In the eighth Headley hit into an RBI ground out to make it 11-4 and in the bottom of the ninth Moustakas hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 11-5 and that would be the final score.
