The New York Yankees sweep the San Francisco Giants


The New York Yankees defeated the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California and the final score was 11-5.  Domingo German started and pitched well.  The Yankees offense was led by Luke Voit who had three hits.   

German pitched six innings giving up five hits and four runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  German won his fifth game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Tommy Khanle pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Joe Harvey pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Dereck Rodriguez pitched three innings giving up seven his and six runs with four of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out three and lost his third game of the season.  Nick Vincent pitched three innings giving up three hits and two runs with four strikeouts, Sam Dyson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Reyes Moronta pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Will Smith pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Thairo Estrada had two hits and Voit had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Brett Gardner drew a walk, Gary Sanchez had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Mike Tauchman had a hit, Gio Urshela had two hits and Cameron Maybin had a hit and an RBI.  Tyler Wade had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Sanchez and Torres each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Estrada had a stolen base and Voit committed an error. 

Joe Panik had a hit and an RBI, Brandon Belt had a hit and drew a walk and Pablo Sandoval had a hit and an RBI.  Kevin Pillar had two hits and three RBI, Gerardo Parra drew a walk and Rodriguez had a hit.  Tyler Austin drew a walk, Sandoval hti a double and Pillar hit a homerun.  The Giants were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Kratz and Crawford each committed an error. 

In the first Sanchez reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored, Torres hit into a double play and a run scored to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the second Voit hit a two-run single making it a 4-0 game.  In the third Torres hit a two-run homerun pushing the Yankees lead to 6-0.  Sanchez hit a two-run homerun in the sixth extending the Yankees lead to 8-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Panik hit an RBI single to get the Giants on the board.  Sandoval hit an RBI double and it was 8-2 Yankees.  Pillar hit a two-run single and the lead was cut in half at 8-4.  In the ninth Maybin hit an RBI single, Wade hit a two-run single and the lead was up to 11-4.  In the bottom of the ninth Pillar hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 11-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees swept the three-game series and will be off on Monday.  They will begin a brief two-game series in Arizona on Tuesday night.
