New York Mets get crushed by the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 10-2.  Chris Flexen made his season debut for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen didn’t pitch well either and the offense only managed four hits. 

Flexen pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with five being earned.  He walked four and lost his first game of the season.  Luis Avilan pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts, Jacob Rhame pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Miles Mikolas pitched eight innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Mikolas won his second game of the season.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brandon Nimmo drew a walk, Robinson Cano had a hit and Jeff McNeil had a hit and drew a walk.  Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI, J.D. Davis had an RBI, Flexen had a hit and Rosario hit a triple.  The Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ramos had a passed ball. 

Matt Carpenter had a hit and drew two walks, Paul Goldschmidt had a hit and an RBI and Paul DeJong had two hits and an RBI.  Marcell Ozuna drew three walks, Jose Martinez had three hits and three RBI and Jose Molina had two hits and two RBI.  Kolten Wong drew two walks, Mikolas had a hit and two RBI and Martinez hit a double.  DeJong hit two doubles and Goldschmidt hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Ozuna had a stolen base. 

In the second a passed ball gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  Mikolas hit a two-run single to push the Cardinals lead to 3-0.  In the third Martinez hit an RBI single to make it a 4-0 game.  Molina hit a sac fly and it was 5-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Molina hit an RBI single to extend the Cardinals lead to 6-0.  In the bottom of the sixth DeJong hit an RBI double and Martinez hit a two-run double and it was a 9-0 game.  In the seventh Rosario hit an RBI triple to cut the lead to 9-1 and Davis hit an RBI ground out making it a 9-2 game.  In the eighth Goldschmidt hit a solo homerun and it was 10-2 which would be the final score of the game. 

The Mets will try and salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.

New York Mets are routed by the Cincinnati Reds


The New York Mets were defeated by the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio and the final score was 14-4.  Chris Flexen started and he didn’t pitch very well.  Asdrubal Cabrera and Dominic Smith each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Flexen pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with four walks and four strikeouts.  Flexen lost his third game of the season.  Josh Smoker pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and three walks with two strikeouts, Jeurys Familia pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out three and Chasen Bradford pitched giving up six hits and seven runs with four of them earned and didn’t record an out.  He walked one batter and didn’t strike any out and Kevin Plawecki pitched an inning giving up a hit and no runs. 

Sal Romano won his fourth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Drew Storen pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one, Kevin Shackelford pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Wandy Peralta pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Alejandro Chacin pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and a strikeout. 

Jose Reyes had a hit and drew three walks, Brandon Nimmo had a hit and Cabrera had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores had a hit, Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and Smith had two hits and two RBI.  Amed Rosario had a hit, Flexen had a hit and Matt Reynolds drew a walk.  Cabrera and d’Arnaud each hit a double and the Mets were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Reyes was caught stealing and Nimmo committed an error and Flores committed two errors. 

Billy Hamilton had three hits and an RBI, Zack Cozart had two hits and drew a walk and Joey Votto had a hit, an RBI and drew three walks.  Adam Duvall had a hit and three RBI, Scooter Gennett had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Eugenio Suarez had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Scott Schebler had two hits, five RBI and drew a walk, Tucker Barnhart had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Hamilton hit two doubles and Suarez and Gennett hit a double.  Schebler and Duvall each hit a homerun and the Reds were 9-20 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the first Cabrera hit an RBI double to make it 1-0 Mets.  In the bottom of the first Suarez hit an RBI single, Schebler hit a grand-slam and it was 5-1 Reds.  In the fifth Gennett hit an RBI single, Schebler hit an RBI single to push the lead to 7-1.  In the sixth Smith hit a two-run single to cut the lead to 7-3.  In the eighth Votto hit an RBI single, Duvall hit a three-run homerun and Barnhart hit an RBI single to push the lead to 12-3.  Ervin grounded into a double play and a run scored and Hamilton hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 14-3.  In the ninth Cabrera hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 14-4 and that would be the final score of the game.  The two teams will complete their series on Wednesday night.

New York Mets defeat the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Chris Flexen started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen did a great job and Curtis Granderson paced the offense with three hits and three RBI. 

Flexen won his second game of the season pitching five innings and giving up six hits and two runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Chasen Bradford pitched a perfect inning, Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Paul Sewald pitched a perfect inning.  AJ Ramos pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Zach Eflin pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  Eflin lost his fourth game of the season.  Jesen Therrien pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Edubray Ramos pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He struck out one and Adam Morgan pitched two innings giving up two hits and no runs with three strikeouts. 

Granderson had three hits and three RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI.  Wilmer Flores had two hits and an RBI, Dominic Smith had a hit and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit.  Jose Reyes had two hits, Amed Rosario had a hit and Granderson and Reyes each hit a double.  Conforto and Granderson each hit a homerun and the Mets were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes had a stolen base and Conforto had an outfield assist. 

Cesar Hernandez had two hits, Freddy Galvis had a hit and drew a walk and Odubel Herrera had a hit and drew two walks.  Rhys Hoskins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Nick Williams drew a walk and Jorge Alfaro had two hits.  Hernandez hit a double and the Phillies were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Ramos committed an error. 

In the first Conforto hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Hoskins grounded into a force out and a run scored to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fifth Granderson hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth a wild pitch cut the lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Granderson hit an RBI single to make it a 5-2 game and Flores hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets will begin the Subway series at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.

New York Mets are defeated by the San Diego Padres


The New York Mets were defeated by the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.  The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final score was 7-5.  Chris Flexen made the start and his major league debut for the Mets.  He didn’t pitch very well.  The Mets had three batters with two hits and Jay Bruce had three RBI to lead the offense. 

Flexen pitched three innings giving up five hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out two and lost his first game of the season.  Tyler Pill pitched two innings giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout, Josh Edgin pitched a perfect inning and Fernando Salas pitched an inning with a strikeout.  Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Luis Perdomo pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Perdomo won his fifth game of the season.  Jose Torres pitched giving up a hit and a run,  Phil Maton pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with three strikeouts and Brad Hand saved his fifth game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Michael Conforto had two hits, Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI.  Bruce had a hit and three RBI, Wilmer Flores had a hit and Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk.  Matt Reynolds had two hits, Conforto hit a double, Cabrera, Grandreson and Cespedes also each hit a double.  Bruce hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Conforto committed an error. 

Manuel Margot had three hits and three RBI, Carlos Asuaje drew two walks and Wil Myers had a hit.  Cory Spangenberg drew two walks, Jabari Blash had a hit and drew a walk and Dusty Coleman had two hits and three RBI.  Luis Torrens drew a walk, Margot hti a double and a homerun and Coleman hit a homerun.  The Padres were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Myers was caught stealing. 

In the first Bruce grounded into an RBI force out to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Margot hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the second Margot hit a three run double to give the Padres a 4-1 lead.  In the fifth Coleman hit a three-run homerun to push the lead to 7-1.  In the seventh Cespedes hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 7-2.  A balk brought home another run and Bruce hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 7-5.  The final score would be 7-5 and the Mets would begin a three game series with the Seattle Mariners on Friday night.
