The New York Mets start off a long road trip with a loss in Pittsburgh



The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday night.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-2 Pittsburgh.  Daisuke Matsuzaka started for the Mets and didn't pitch well.  The Mets offense produced nine hits but no player had more than a hit. 

Matsuzaka pitched six innings giving up five hits and five runs with four walks and four strikeouts.  Matsuzaka lost his second game of the season.  Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk, Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Vic Black pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Vance Worley won his second game of the season pitching seven innings giving up seven hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out four.  Tony Watson pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Mark Melancon pitched a perfect inning to save his 14th game of the season. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and David Wright had a hit and an RBI.  Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Bobby Abreu had a hit and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Travis d'Arnaud had a hit, Ruben Tejada had a hit and Matsuzaka had a hit.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, Murphy and Wright each hit a double.  Duda hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Gregory Polanco had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk, Andrew McCutchen had a hit and drew a walk and Ike Davis drew two walks.  Pedro Alvarez had three hits, Jordy Mercer drew a walk and Worley had a hit.  Snider had a hit, McCutchen hit a double and Polanco hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Polanco had a stolen base, Davis was caught stealing and Harrison had an outfield assist. 

In the third Polanco hit an RBI groundout to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  Duda hit a solo homerun to tie the game in the fourth.  In the bottom of the fourth Davis was picked off but got caught in a run down long enough that a run scored giving the Pirates a 2-1 lead.  Polanco hit a three run homerun in the fifth to give the Pirates a 5-1 lead.  The Mets would add another run in the eighth on a Wright RBI double.  The final score was 5-2 and the two teams will play game two of their four game series on Friday night.

The New York Mets end their six game losing streak



The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 6-2.  Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Taylor Teagarden hit a grand slam. 

Matsuzaka pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Matsuzaka won his third game of the season.  Vic Black pitched an inning giving up a hit, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Jennry Mejia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Marco Estrada pitched six innings giving up four hits and six runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  Estrada lost his third game of the season.   Mike Fiers pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and Zach Duke pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and David Wright drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Chris Young had a hit and Lucas Duda drew a walk.  Teagarden had a hit and four RBI, Matt den Dekker had a hit and Tejada hit a double.  Murphy and Teagarden each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Young had a stolen base. 

Scooter Gennett had a hit and drew a walk, Ryan Braun drew a walk and Jonathan Lucroy had a hit.  Carlos Gomez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Lyle Overbay had two hits and an RBI and Estrada had a hit.  Overbay and Gomez each hit a double and the Brewers were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Braun had a stolen base and Overbay committed an error. 

Murphy hit a two run homerun in the third to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Overbay hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Teagarden hit a grand slam to give the Mets a 6-1 lead.  Gomez hit an RBI double in the eighth to make it a 6-2 game but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night.

The New York Mets drop another one to the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 5-4.  Daisuki Matsuzaka started for the Mets and didn't pitch that well, the bullpen was pretty good.  Daniel Murphy had three hits. 

Matsuzaka pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with five walks and two strikeouts.  Dana Eveland lost his first game of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Jeurys Familia pitched 1/3 of an inning and Buddy Carlyle pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning walking one and striking out one and Carlos Torres pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out three. 

Edwin Jackson won his fourth game of the season pitching five innings and giving up five hits and four runs but only one was earned.  He walked five and struck out four.  Carlos Villanueva pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two walks with two strikeouts, Wesley Wright struck out the only batter that he faced and James Russell faced two batters and retired them both.  Justin Grimm retired the only batter that he faced, Pedro Strop pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Hector Rondon saved his seventh game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit with two strikeouts.   

Matt den Dekker drew a walk, Murphy had three hits and David Wright drew two walks.  Curtis Granderson had two hits, Bobby Abreu drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Matsuzaka drew a walk and Duda and Murphy each hit a double.  Tejada hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Granderson had a stolen base. 

Emilio Bonifacio had a hit, Justin Ruggiano had a hit and drew three walks and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew two walks.  Starlin Castro had three hits and three RBI, Nate Schierholtz had an RBI and Chris Coghlan had a hit and drew two walks.  Mike Olt drew a walk, Luis Valbuena had a hit and Ruggiano and Castro each hit a double.  Coghlan hit a triple and the Cubs were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

In the first Abreu reached on an error and a run scored and Duda hit a two run double to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first the Cubs scored two runs.  Castro hit an RBI single and Schierholtz had an RBI groundout.  The score was 3-2 Mets and then Tejada homered in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-2.  Castro hit a two run single in the fifth to tie the game at four  and a wild pitch made it 5-4 Cubs.  5-4 would be the final score of the game.  The two teams will play the final game of the series on Thursday night.  The Mets will try and avoid the sweep.

The New York Mets split a doubleheader with the Arizona Diamondbacks


The New York Mets were defeated in game one by the Arizona Diamondbacks.  They defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in game two.  The games took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final scores were 2-1 and 4-2.  Rafael Montero pitched well in the first game and Daniel Murphy, David Wright and Juan Centeno each had two hits.  In the second game Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched well and so did the bullpen.  Anthony Recker had four hits and Murphy had three hits. 
In the first game Montero pitched six innings giving up two hits and a run with three walks and ten strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two, Josh Edgin faced one batter and retired him and Jose Valverde pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and walking two.  Jennry Mejia lost his first game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a run.  It was unearned and he walked and struck out a batter. 
Bronson Arroyo pitched six innings giving up six hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Oliver Perez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Marshall won his second game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and walking one and Addison Reed picked up his 14th save of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up two hits and struck out two. 
Juan Lagares had a hit, Murphy had two hits and Wright had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Bobby Abreu drew a walk and Ruben Tejada had a hit.  Centeno had two hits, Wilmer Flores had a hit, the Mets were 1-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Murphy committed an error. 
Gerardo Parra drew two walks, Chris Owings had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Paul Goldschmidt had two hits.  Miguel Montero drew a walk, Aaron Hill drew two walks and Eric Chavez had a hit.  A.J. Pollock had a hit, Chavez, Goldschmidt and Pollock each hit a double.  Owings hit a homerun and the Diamondbacks were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Owings committed an error.  In the first Owings hit a homerun to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead.  The Mets answered right back with a Wright RBI single.  The game remained tied until the ninth inning when Owings reached on a force attempt and error which allowed a run to score.  The final score was 2-1. 
In game two Matsuzaka pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season, Carlos Torres pitched an inning giving up a hit, Josh Edgin pitched to one batter and retired him and Familia faced two batters and retired them.  Mejia picked up his third save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 
Zeke Spruill pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up ten hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season, Trevor Cahill pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and Joe Thatcher pitched to two batters retiring them both and one was a strikeout. 
Murphy had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Wright had a hit and drew a walk and Granderson drew two walks.  Abreu had two hits and an RBI, Eric Campbell had a hit and Recker had four hits.  Matsuzaka had a hit and an RBI, Tejada had a hit and an RBI and C. Young drew a walk.  Abreu and Recker each hit a double.  The Mets were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Recker was caught stealing and Wright committed an error. 
Parra had a hit and drew a walk, Hill had a hit and Martin Prado had a hit and an RBI.  Cody Ross had an RBI, Owings had a hit and Tuffy Gosewisch had a hit.  Gosewisch hit a double, Prado hit a triple and the Diamondbacks were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Parra had a stolen base and Inciarte had an outfield assist. 
In the second Prado hit an RBI triple and Ross had an RBI groundout to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Matsuzaka had an RBI single to make it a 2-1 game.  Abreu hit an RBI double in the fifth to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Tejada hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.  Murphy hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it 4-2 and that was the final score.  The Mets will begin a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates at home on Monday afternoon.

The New York Mets drop final game in Montreal

The New York Mets were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took

place at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada.  The fans once again packed the place, this time to

the tune of 50,000 plus.  If there were ever a chance based on attendance I would say Montreal

would get a team back.  They drew close to 100,000 for the two games there this weekend.  Daisuke

Matsuzaka pitched five scoreless innings and then was optioned to AAA after the game.  The

offense only produced two hits. 

Matsuzaka pitched five scoreless giving up five hits and he struck out eight.  Kyle Farnsworth pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Jose Valverde pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and John Lannan pitched to one batter and retired him.  Cody Satterwhite pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and he also took the loss.  Adam Kolarek pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run. 

Eric Young Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Ike Davis drew a walk.  Murphy was caught stealing and Curtis Granderson had an outfield assist.   The Mets finished the exhibition schedule and will now head home to New York.  They will open the season on Monday afternoon against the Washington Nationals.  Dillon Gee will get the start as Jon Niese and Matt Harvey are both injured.

The New York Mets play spoilers and beat the Cincinnati Reds


The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday afternoon. The final score was 1-0 and the game took place at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. Daisuke Matsuzaka started for the Mets and pitched great. Eric Young Jr. provided the only RBI of the game.

Matsuzaka pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up four hits and no runs. He walked two and struck out six and won his third game of the season. Pedro Feliciano pitched 1/3 of an inning and walked a batter and LaTroy Hawkins saved his 13th game of the season pitching a perfect inning.

Young Jr. had a hit and an RBI, Justin Turner had a hit and Daniel Murphy had a hit. Mike Baxter drew a walk, Anthony Recker drew a walk and Wilfredo Tovar drew a walk. Matsuzaka had a hit; the Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Murphy had a stolen base.

Mat Latos started for the Reds and lost his seventh game of the season. He pitched seven innings and gave up four hits and a run. He walked two and struck out seven. Manny Parra pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning walking one and striking out two.

Billy Hamilton had a hit, Shin-Soo Choo drew two walks and Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk. Cezar Izturis had a hit, Derrick Robinson had a hit and Izturis hit a double. The Reds were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Bruce had two stolen bases and Hamilton was caught stealing. Devin Mesoraco had a passed ball.

The only run of the game was scored in the third inning. Young Jr. hit an RBI single to make it 1-0 and that score held up.

The New York Mets get blown out by the Atlanta Braves


The Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets on Monday afternoon. The final score was 13-5 and the game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. Daisuke Matsuzaka started for the Mets and was bad, the bullpen had mixed results. Josh Satin and Juan Lagares each had two hits.

Matsuzaka pitched three innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and three strikeouts. He lost his third game of the season, Tim Byrdak pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Gonzalez Germen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Pedro Feliciano pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a walk. Vic Black faced one batter and retired him, David Aardsma pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked three and struck out one and LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Satin had two hits. Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Lagares had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores drew a walk. Anthony Recker had a hit and drew a walk, Matsuzaka had a hit and an RBI and Zach Lutz had a hit and an RBI. Satin hit two doubles and Lutz hit a double. The Mets were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Satin committed an error.

Paul Maholm started for the Braves and pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs. He walked three and struck out four. Maholm won his 10th game of the season, Luis Ayala pitched a perfect inning, Scott Downs pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a strikeout and David Carpenter pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out a batter. Luis Avilan pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Jordan Schafer had four hits and an RBI, Justin Upton had two hits and drew two walks and Freddie Freeman had two hits and five RBI. Brian McCann had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Cody Johnson had two hits and drew a walk and B.J. Upton had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Dan Uggla had a hit and drew a walk, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and three RBI and Joey Terdoslavich had an RBI. Freeman, Simmons and J. Upton each hit a double and B.J. Upton hit two doubles. Freeman hit a homerun and the Braves were 8-20 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Schafer had three stolen bases, Elliott Johnson had one and Schafer committed an error.

In the first Freeman hit a two run double to give the Braves a 2-0 lead. Matsuzaka hit an RBI single in the second to cut the lead to 2-1. Schafer hit an RBI single in the second, Freeman hit a three run homerun and the score was 6-1 Atlanta. Lutz hit an RBI double in the fourth and Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-3. Simmons hit a two run double in the fifth to make it an 8-3 game. In the sixth McCann hit an RBI single, B.J. Upton hit an RBI double and the Braves were leading 10-3. Duda hit an RBI single and Lagares hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it 10-5 Braves. In the eighth Simmons reached on a fielding error and two runs scored and Terdoslavich hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 13-5 score which was the final score.

The Braves record improved to 84-53 and the Mets record fell to 62-74. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.
