The New York Mets get blown out by the Atlanta Braves


The Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets on Monday afternoon. The final score was 13-5 and the game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia. Daisuke Matsuzaka started for the Mets and was bad, the bullpen had mixed results. Josh Satin and Juan Lagares each had two hits.

Matsuzaka pitched three innings giving up seven hits and six runs with two walks and three strikeouts. He lost his third game of the season, Tim Byrdak pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one, Gonzalez Germen pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Pedro Feliciano pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a walk. Vic Black faced one batter and retired him, David Aardsma pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked three and struck out one and LaTroy Hawkins pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and an RBI and Satin had two hits. Lucas Duda had a hit and an RBI, Lagares had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores drew a walk. Anthony Recker had a hit and drew a walk, Matsuzaka had a hit and an RBI and Zach Lutz had a hit and an RBI. Satin hit two doubles and Lutz hit a double. The Mets were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Satin committed an error.

Paul Maholm started for the Braves and pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs. He walked three and struck out four. Maholm won his 10th game of the season, Luis Ayala pitched a perfect inning, Scott Downs pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and two runs with a strikeout and David Carpenter pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out a batter. Luis Avilan pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts.

Jordan Schafer had four hits and an RBI, Justin Upton had two hits and drew two walks and Freddie Freeman had two hits and five RBI. Brian McCann had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Cody Johnson had two hits and drew a walk and B.J. Upton had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Dan Uggla had a hit and drew a walk, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and three RBI and Joey Terdoslavich had an RBI. Freeman, Simmons and J. Upton each hit a double and B.J. Upton hit two doubles. Freeman hit a homerun and the Braves were 8-20 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Schafer had three stolen bases, Elliott Johnson had one and Schafer committed an error.

In the first Freeman hit a two run double to give the Braves a 2-0 lead. Matsuzaka hit an RBI single in the second to cut the lead to 2-1. Schafer hit an RBI single in the second, Freeman hit a three run homerun and the score was 6-1 Atlanta. Lutz hit an RBI double in the fourth and Murphy hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-3. Simmons hit a two run double in the fifth to make it an 8-3 game. In the sixth McCann hit an RBI single, B.J. Upton hit an RBI double and the Braves were leading 10-3. Duda hit an RBI single and Lagares hit an RBI single in the seventh to make it 10-5 Braves. In the eighth Simmons reached on a fielding error and two runs scored and Terdoslavich hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 13-5 score which was the final score.

The Braves record improved to 84-53 and the Mets record fell to 62-74. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Tuesday night.

The Mets win on a walkoff homerun to beat the Kansas City Royals


The New York Mets defeated the Kansas City Royals on Friday night. The final score was 4-2 and the game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched well, the bullpen pitched pretty well. Ike Davis had three hits and Eric Young Jr. and David Wright each had two hits and two RBI.

Gee pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run. He walked two and struck out four. Scott Rice pitched to one batter and retired him, LaTroy Hawkins pitched to two batters and retired them both and David Aardsma pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks. Pedro Feliciano pitched to one batter and retired him and Torres won his second game of the season pitching two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one.

Young had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and Wright had two hits and two RBI. Marlon Byrd had a hit and drew a walk, Davis had three hits and drew a walk and Omar Quintanilla had two hits and drew a walk. Davis hit a double; Wright and Young each hit a homerun. The Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Davis committed an error.

Wade Davis pitched five innings giving up eight hits and two runs with five strikeouts. Kelvin Herrera pitched an inning giving up a walk and striking out two, Louis Coleman pitched two innings striking out three and Aaron Crow pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. Luis Mendoza pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks.

Eric Hosmer had a hit, Salvador Perez had a hit and an RBI and David Lough had a hit. Miguel Tejada had a hit, Alcides Escobar drew a walk and Elliot Johnson drew a walk. Billy Butler drew a walk, Mendoza had a hit and Justin Maxwell had a hit. Lorenzo Cain had an RBI and drew a walk, Tejada hit a double and the Royals were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. Lough and Johnson each had a stolen base.

Wright hit a two run homerun in the first giving the Mets a 2-0 lead. Perez grounded into a force out in the eighth inning to cut the lead to 2-1. In the ninth the Royals tied the game at two on a Cain sacrifice fly. The Mets won the game in the 11th on a two run walkoff homerun by Young Jr.

The Mets record improved to 49-58 and the Royals record dropped to 54-52. The two teams will play game two of the three game series on Saturday afternoon.
