New York Yankees suffer a heartbreaking, gut wrenching ninth inning loss to the Texas Rangers

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 7-4.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he pitched great, the closer Clay Holmes was terrible and blew the save.  Gleyber Torres, Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Volpe each had two hits. 

Rodon pitched six innings giving up one hit and one run with two walks and 11 strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout, Jake Cousins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Tim Hill pitched to two batters getting them both out and one a strikeout.  Holmes lost his fifth game of the season and blew his 11th save of the season.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two this and four runs with two walks. 

Andrew Heaney started for the Rangers and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Jose Leclerc pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Andrew Chafin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Grant Anderson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts.  Gerson Garabito pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Walter Pennington pitched 1/3 of an inning with a  walk and he earned his first win of the season. 

Torres had two hits and drew a walk, Juan Soto drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Chisholm had two hits and Volpe had two hits and two RBI.  Jose Trevino had a hit and an RBI, Alex Verdugo had a hit and an RBI and DJ LeMahieu had a hit.  Torres had a double and the Yankees were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Volpe had a stolen base and Soto was caught stealing.  LeMahieu committed an error. 

Marcus Semien had a hit and drew a walk, Wyatt Langford had a hit and four RBI and Josh Jung had two hits and two RBI.  Adolis Garcia drew a walk, Nathaniel Lowe had an RBI and drew a walk and Ezequiel Duran had a hit.  Carson Kelly had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Smith drew a walk and Jung and Langford each hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Jung and Taveras each had a stolen base. 

In the bottom of the fourth Jung hit a solo homerun giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the seventh Trevino hit an RBI groundout tying the game at one.  Verdugo hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the eighth Volpe hit a two-run single extending the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the eighth Jung hit an RBI single and Lowe hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 4-3.  In the bottom of the ninth after getting the first out on an easy groundout closer Holmes gave up a single, walk, walk and a grand-slam to lose the game 7-4.  The rubber game of the three-game series is on Wednesday night.   

New York Yankees use offensive attack to double up the Texas Rangers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Monday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 8-4.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen had some trouble but held the lead.  The offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had three hits and Juan Soto and Jazz Chizholm also contributed two hits each. 

Cole pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts and he picked up his sixth win of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout, Tim Hill pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Clay Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning with a hit and a walk. 

Jack Leiter started for the Rangers and he took his second loss of the season.  He pitched five innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a couple of strikeouts.  Chase Anderson pitched four innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts. 

Torres had three hits and two RBI, Soto had two hits and drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Chisholm had two hits and an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and two RBI.  Anthony Volpe had a hit, Alex Verdugo had a hit and Torres, Judge and Rizzo each hit a double.  Stanton hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Chisholm had two stolen bases.  

Corey Seager had two hits, Josh Smith had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Nathaniel Lowe had a hit.  Josh Jung had two hits, Wyatt Langford had two hits and two RBI and Josh Heim had an RBI.  Leody Taveras had a hit and drew a walk, Smith and Langford each hit a double and Langford hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the top of the third Torres hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Smith hit an RBI double cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the top of the sixth Judge hit an RBI double, Chisholm hit an RBI single and Rizzo hit a two-run double pushing the Yankees lead to 6-1.  A wild pitch made it 7-1.  In the bottom of the seventh Langford hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 7-3.  In the top of the eighth Stanton hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 8-3 and in the bottom of the ninth Heim hit an RBI groundout cutting the lead to 8-4 and that was the final score of the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in back and forth extra inning clash

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 7-6 in 12 innings.  Will Warren made his first major league start and pitched well, he made one mistake which was a three-run homerun.  The Yankees bullpen pitched great and Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm led the offense with three hits each. 

Warren pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Jake Cousins pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Luke Weaver pitched a perfect inning.  Clay Holmes pitched an inning with three hits and a run and a walk, he blew his eighth save of the season.  Mark Leiter Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Michael Tonkin earned his fourth win of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Aaron Nola started for the Phillies and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Jose Alvarado faced one batter and got him out, Matt Strahm pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Jose Ruiz pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two.  Carlos Estevez pitched a perfect inning, Jeff Hoffman pitched two innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout and Orion Kerkering pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout.  Kerkering took his second loss of the season. 

Alex Verdugo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Juan Soto had a hit and drew two walks and Judge had three hits and drew two walks.  Chisholm had three hits and five RBI, Gleyber Torres had an RBI and Ben Rice had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had two hits, Trent Grisham drew a walk and Verdugo and Volpe each hit a double.  Chisholm Jr. hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 3-16 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Volpe had a stolen base. 

Kyle Schwarber drew two walks, Trea Turner had a hit and Bryce Harper drew a walk.  Alec Bohm had a hit and an RBI, JT Realmuto had three hits and drew a walk and Johan Rojas had a hit.  Bryson Stott had a hit and drew a walk, Austin Hays had two hits and four RBI and Bohm hit a double and Hays hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-18 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Hays had a stolen base and Realmuto committed an error.  Realmuto had a passed ball. 

In the top of the first Chisholm hit an RBI groundout giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Bohm hit an RBI double tying the score at one.  In the bottom of the second Hays hit a three-run homerun to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead.  In the sixth Chisholm Jr. hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the top of the seventh Chisholm Jr. hit a three-run homerun giving the Yankees a 5-4 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth a wild pitch tied the game at five.  In the top of the 11th Verdugo hit a sac fly giving the Yankees a 6-5 lead.  In the bottom of the 11th Hays hit an RBI single tying the game at six.  In the top of the 12th Torres hit a sac fly giving the Yankees a 7-6 lead and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will try to sweep the three-game series on Wednesday afternoon.
