New York Yankees defeat the Cleveland Guardians in Game 1 of the ALCS

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians in Game 1 of the ALCS on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Carlos Rodon got the start for the Yankees, and he pitched well.  The bullpen did their job, and the offense was led by Juan Soto who had two hits. 

Rodon pitched six innings giving up one run on three hits.  He walked none and struck out nine and earned his first win of the postseason.  Clay Holmes pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Tim Hill pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run and Luke Weaver pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out four.  Weaver earned his fourth save of the postseason. 

Alex Cobb started for the Guardians, and he pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Cobb took his second loss of the postseason.  Joey Cantillo pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and three walks with a strikeout, Pedro Avila pitched 2 2/3 innings with a strikeout and Erik Sabrowski pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts.  Andrew Walters pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one. 

Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk, Soto had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Judge had an RBI and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Anthony Volpe drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew a walk.  Alex Verdugo had a hit and drew a walk, Soto and Stanton each hit a homerun, and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Hill committed an error, and Wells had a passed ball. 

Steven Kwan had a hit and an RBI, David Fry had a hit and Lane Thomas drew a walk.  Jhonkensy Noel had a hit, Andres Gimenez had a hit and Brayan Rocchio had two hits and an RBI.  Rocchio hit a homerun and the Guardians were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the bottom of the third Soto hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Two wild pitches pushed the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Judge hit a sac fly and it was 4-0 Yankees.  In the top of the sixth Rocchio hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the seventh Stanton hit a solo homerun extending the Yankees lead to 5-1 and in the top of the eighth Kwan hit an RBI single making it a 5-2 game.  5-2 would be the final score and the Yankees have a 1-0 series lead with Game 2 on Tuesday night in the Bronx.

Yankees top the Royals in ALDS Game 1 back and forth

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals in Game 1 of the ALDS on Saturday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-5.  Gerrit Cole started, and he didn’t pitch well, the bullpen did a good job.  Juan Soto led the offense with three hits and Alex Verdugo had the game winning hit. 

Cole pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four.  Tim Hill pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run, Clay Holmes picked up the win pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up a hit and Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning with a walk.  Luke Weaver picked up the save pitching 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. 

Michael Wacha started for the Royals, and he pitched four innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Angel Zerpa pitched giving up a hit and a run with two walks and didn’t record an out, John Schreiber pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Sam Long pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, a run, a walk and a strikeout.  Michael Lorenzen pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three strikeouts and he took the loss.  Lucas Erceg pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out three. 

Gleyber Torres had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Soto had three hits and Aaron Judge drew a walk.  Austin Wells had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks, Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk and Jazz Chisholm had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had an RBI and drew a walk, Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and Verdugo had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Soto and Cabrera each hit a double and Torres hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Chisholm had a stolen base and Volpe committed an error.  Soto had an outfield assist. 

Michael Massey had two hits, Salvador Perez had a hit and Yuli Gurriel had a hit and drew two walks and MJ Melendez had two hits and two RBI.  Tommy Pham had a hit and an RBI, Garrett Hampson had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Maikel Garcia had a hit.  Melendez hit a homerun, and the Royals were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the top of the second Pham hit a sac fly giving the Royals a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Torres hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the top of the fourth Melendez hit a two-run homerun giving the Royals back a one run lead at 3-2.  In the bottom of the fifth Wells drew an RBI walk and Volpe drew an RBI walk giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  In the top of the sixth Hampson hit a two-run single giving the Royals back the lead at 5-4.  In the bottom of the sixth Wells hit an RBI single tying the game at five and in the bottom of the seventh Verdugo hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 6-5 lead which would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two Monday night in the Bronx.

New York Yankees win a ten inning thriller on a walk-off by Juan Soto

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox in ten innings on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankee and he pitched well, the bullpen was excellent.  The Yankees had seven hits but not one player had more then a hit.  Gleyber Torres hit a homerun. 

Cortes pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and nine strikeouts.  Ian Hamilton pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and he struck out three, Tim Hill pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up no hits, run or walks but he struck out a batter and Tommy Khanle pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.  Clay Holmes picked up his third win of the season pitching to two batters and retiring them both. 

Cooper Criswell started for the Red Sox and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts, Cam Booser pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked two and Zack Kelly pitched to one batter and retired him.  Justin Slaten pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Chris Martin pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Josh Winckowski pitched giving up a hit and an unearned run because it was the winning run by the ghost runner in the tenth inning.  He took his second loss of the season. 

Torres had a hit and an RBI, Juan Soto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Austin Wells had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk and Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a hit and drew a walk.  Jasson Dominguez had a hit and drew a walk, Anthony Rizzo drew a walk and Torres hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Chisholm Jr. was caught stealing and picked off. 

Tyler O’Neill had a hit and drew a walk, Connor Wong had a hit and drew two walks and Danny Jansen had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Wilyer Abreu had a hit, Wong and O’Neill each hit a double and Jansen hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 0-11 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Abreu had a stolen base and Jansen had a pickoff. 

In the bottom of the first Torres hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the fifth Jansen hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the tenth Soto hit an RBI walk-off single giving the Yankees a 2-1 victory.  This was game one of four and the two teams will play game two on Friday night.

New York Yankees use offensive attack to double up the Texas Rangers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Monday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 8-4.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen had some trouble but held the lead.  The offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had three hits and Juan Soto and Jazz Chizholm also contributed two hits each. 

Cole pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and nine strikeouts and he picked up his sixth win of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout, Tim Hill pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Clay Holmes pitched 2/3 of an inning with a hit and a walk. 

Jack Leiter started for the Rangers and he took his second loss of the season.  He pitched five innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a couple of strikeouts.  Chase Anderson pitched four innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts. 

Torres had three hits and two RBI, Soto had two hits and drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and an RBI, Chisholm had two hits and an RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and two RBI.  Anthony Volpe had a hit, Alex Verdugo had a hit and Torres, Judge and Rizzo each hit a double.  Stanton hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Chisholm had two stolen bases.  

Corey Seager had two hits, Josh Smith had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Nathaniel Lowe had a hit.  Josh Jung had two hits, Wyatt Langford had two hits and two RBI and Josh Heim had an RBI.  Leody Taveras had a hit and drew a walk, Smith and Langford each hit a double and Langford hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the top of the third Torres hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Smith hit an RBI double cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the top of the sixth Judge hit an RBI double, Chisholm hit an RBI single and Rizzo hit a two-run double pushing the Yankees lead to 6-1.  A wild pitch made it 7-1.  In the bottom of the seventh Langford hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 7-3.  In the top of the eighth Stanton hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 8-3 and in the bottom of the ninth Heim hit an RBI groundout cutting the lead to 8-4 and that was the final score of the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees power past the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 14-4.  Luis Gil started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the bullpen closed it out with 3 2/3 of good pitching.  The offense was led by Juan Soto who had three hits and Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Ben Rice and Anthony Volpe each had two hits. 

Gil pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Gil won his 11th game of the season.  Michael Tonkin pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Yoendrys Gomez pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Zack Wheeler started for the Phillies, and he pitched five innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Wheeler took his fifth loss of the season.  Yunior Marte pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout, Gregory Soto pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Garrett Stubbs pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk. 

Alex Verdugo had a hit and drew two walks, Soto had three hits and three RBI and Judge had two hits and three RBI.  Austin Wells had a hit and two RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Chisolm Jr. had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Volpe had two hits and two RBI.  Soto hit a double, Wells hit a triple and Judge hit two homeruns.  Chisolm Jr. hit two homeruns and Rice and Volpe each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Chisolm Jr. was picked off and Torres committed an error. 

Kyle Schwarber drew three walks, Trea Turner had an RBI and drew a walk and Alec Bohm had a hit.  Brandon Marsh had two hits and two RBI, JT Realmuto had a hit and Nick Castellanos had a hit.  Bryson Stott had two hits, Austin Hays had a hit and Marsh hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Wheeler had a pickoff. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Chisholm Jr. hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 2-0.  Rice hit a solo homerun and it was 3-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the third Turner grounded into a forceout and a run scored cutting the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Marsh hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-2.  In the top of the fifth Soto hit a two-run double pushing the Yankees lead to 5-2.  Wells hit a two-run triple and it was 7-2 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Marsh hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-3.  In the top of the seventh Judge hit a two-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 9-3.  In the bottom of the seventh a wild pitch made it 9-4.  In the top of the eighth Volpe hit a two-run homerun making it a 11-4 game.  Soto hit an RBI double and it was 12-4.  In the ninth Chisholm Jr.  hit a two-run homerun making it 14-4 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees pound the Toronto Blue Jays in a offensive explosion

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 16-5.  Marcus Stroman started for the Yankees and he pitched well but didn’t pitch deep into the game.  The bullpen pitched well and the offense was led by Aaron Judge and Jahmi Jones who each had three hits. 

Stroman pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Michael Tonkin earned his third win of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Tim Hill pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Yusei Kikuchi started for the Blue Jays and he pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Kikuchi took his eight loss of the season.  Nate Pearson pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk, Genesis Cabrera pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Trevor Richards pitched an inning giving up three hits and two unearned runs.  Tim Mayza pitched giving up five hits and five runs without recording an out and Bowden Francis pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs. 

Anthony Volpe had two hits, Juan Soto had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Judge had three hits and two RBI.  J.D. Davis had a hit and an RBI, Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and an RBI and Gleyber Torres had two hits and three RBI.  Alex Verdugo had two hits and two RBI, DJ LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Trevino had a hit and an RBI.  Jones had three hits and an RBI, Davis, Verdugo, LeMahieu, Cabrera and Trevino each hit a double.  Soto and Torres each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 9-12 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Bo Bichette had a hit and drew a walk, Spencer Horwitz had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had two hits and two RBI.  Justin Turner had two hits and drew two walks, George Springer had a hit and two RBI and Danny Jansen had a hit.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had two hits and an RBI, Turner hit a double and Kiner-Falefa, Guerrero Jr. each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Kiner-Falefa committed an error and Barger had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the first Springer hit an RBI single giving the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the fourth Davis hit an RBI groundout to tie the score at one.  In the bottom of the fifth Guerrero Jr. hit into a force out and a run scored giving the Jays a 2-1 lead.  Springer was hit by a pitch and it was 3-1 Jays.  In the top of the sixth Soto hit a three-run homerun giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  Davis hit an RBI double, Torres hit a two-run homerun and it was 7-3 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Kiner-Falefa hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 7-4.  In the bottom of the seventh Guerrero Jr. hit a solo homerun making it a 7-5 game.  In the top of the eighth Verdugo hit an RBI double, LeMahieu hit an RBI double and it was 9-5 Yankees.  In the top of the ninth Judge hit a two-run single pushing the lead to 11-5.  Cabrera hit an RBI double, Torres hit a sac fly and Verdugo hit an RBI single extending the lead to 14-5.  Trevino hit an RBI double and Jones hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 16-5 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday.

New York Yankees are doubled up by the Boston Red Sox

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.  The game took place at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts and the final score was 8-4.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well, he found it after the first couple of innings but it was too late.  Giancarlo Stanton led the offense with a couple of hits. 

Rodon pitched five innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He walked three and struck out seven and took his third loss of the season.  Ron Marinaccio pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Victor Gonzalez pitched an inning and gave up two hits and two runs with only one being earned.  He walked one and struck out one.

Jarren Duran had two hits and an RBI, Rob Refsnyder drew two walks and Tyler O’Neill had two hits and an RBI.  Rafael Devers had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Connor Wong had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Masataka Yoshida had a hit and Jamie Westbrook had a hit and an RBI.  Enmanuel Valdez had a hit and an RBI, Bobby Dalbec drew a walk and Ceddanne Rafaela had three hits.  Duran, O’Neill, Westbrook, Devers, Yoshida and Rafaela each hit a double.  The Red Sox were 6-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Valdez had a stolen base and Rafaela committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first O’Neill hit an RBI double, Wong hit an RBI single and Westbrook hit an RBI double giving the Red Sox a 3-0 lead.  In the top of the second LeMahieu hit a two-run single cutting the lead to 3-2.  In the bottom of the second Devers hit a two-run double to extend the Red Sox lead to 5-2.  In the seventh Soto hit a homerun to cut the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Valdez hit an RBI single to push the lead to 6-3.  In the top of the eighth LeMahieu grounded into a force out and a run scored cutting the lead to 6-4.  In the bottom of the eighth Durran hit an RBI single making it 7-4 and a throwing error made it 8-4 and that was the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday night.

New York Yankees lose a close one to the Angels

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California and the final score was 4-3.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees, and he pitched well and the bullpen pitched well, Luke Weaver had a little hiccup.  The offense was led by Anthony Volpe and Juan Soto who each had two hits. 

Cortes Jr. pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched to two batters and retired them both, Weaver pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with three strikeouts and he took his first loss of the season.  Clay Holmes blew his third save of the season pitching 1/3 of an inning and giving up two hits. 

Griffin Canning started for the Angels, and he pitched five innings giving up nine this and three runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Hunter Strickland pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Luis Garcia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Matt Moore pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his first win of the season.  Carlos Estevez pitched a perfect inning and earned his eighth save of the season. 

Volpe had two hits, Soto had two hits and two RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Alex Verdugo had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk.  Austin Wells had a hit and an RBI, DJ LeMahieu drew a walk.  Wells hit a double and Soto hit a homerun, the Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Cortes had a pickoff. 

Luis Rengifo had three hits, Taylor Ward had a hit and two RBI and Kevin Pillar had three hits and two RBI.  Zach Neto had a hit, Willie Calhoun had a hit and Ward hit a double and Pillar hit a homerun.  The Angels were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Neto was picked off and Adell had an outfield assist. 

In the first Soto hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Pillar hit a two-run homerun giving the Angels a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Soto hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the fifth Wells hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Ward hit a two-run double giving the Angels a 4-3 lead and they would keep that lead and win the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

Yankees slug their way to a shutout victory over the San Diego Padres

 

The New York Yankees defeated the San Diego Padres on Friday night.  The game took place at Petco Park in San Diego, California and the final score was 8-0.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen also pitched well and the offense was led by Juan Soto who had two hits and two RBI. 

Rodon pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Rodon picked up his sixth win of the season.  Dennis Santana pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout and Yoendrys Gomez pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Yu Darvish started for the Padres, and he didn’t pitch well going 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs.  He walked one and struck out five and took his second loss of the season.  Stephen Kolek pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout and Jhonny Brito pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit and drew a walk, Soto had two hits and two RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit and two RBI.  Alex Verdugo had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and two RBI and Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI.  Austin Wells had two hits, Jon Berti had a hit and Soto hit a double, Volpe hit a triple and Soto, Judge and Stanton each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Berti had a stolen base. 

Fernando Tatis Jr. drew a walk, Manny Machado had a hit and drew a walk and Jake Cronenworth had a hit and drew a walk.  Jackson Merrill had a hit, and the Padres were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first Judge hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Soto hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 3-0.  Judge hit a solo homerun and Stanton hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 6-0.  In the fourth Torres hit a solo homerun making it a 7-0 game and in the ninth a wild pitch made it 8-0, which would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday night.

New York Yankees offense continues to struggle in loss to Orioles

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 4-2.  Nestor Cortes started for the Yankees, and he pitched ok, Luke Weaver was great in relief.  Juan Soto and Austin Wells led the offense with two hits each.   

Cortes pitched six innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Cortes took his third loss of the season.  Weaver pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Dean Kremer started for the Orioles and he pitched seven innings giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Keegan Akin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jacob Webb pitched 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. 

Anthony Volpe had a hit, Soto had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Judge drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Austin Wells had two hits and an RBI and Trent Grisham drew a walk.  Wells and Soto each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Torres committed an error. 

Gunnar Henderson had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Adley Rutschman had two hits and an RBI and Anthony Santander had a hit and drew a walk.  Jordan Westburg had a hit, Jorge Mateo had a hit and Cedric Mullins had a hit.  James McCann had a hit and an RBI, Colton Cowser had a hit and Santander, Mateo and McCann each hit a double.  The Orioles were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Mullins was caught stealing. 

In the bottom of the second Westburg reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the third Wells hit a solo homerun tying the game at one.  In the bottom of the fourth McCann hit an RBI double giving the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  Henderson hit an RBI single and the lead was extended to 3-1.  Rutschman hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 4-1.  In the sixth Soto hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2 but that was the closest it would be.  The final score was 4-2 Orioles.  The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees continue their hot start in the desert

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.  The game took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and the final score was 5-2.  Luis Gil started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen also pitched well.  Anthony Volpe led the offense with four hits. 

Gil pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three walks and six strikeouts.  Luke Weaver earned his second win of the season pitching 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Nick Burdi pitched an inning with a strikeout and Victor Gonzalez picked up his first save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Ryne Nelson started for the Diamondbacks, and he pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out two.  Nelson took the loss which was the first of the season for him.  Kyle Nelson pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Miguel Castro pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and Joe Mantiply pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Luis Frias pitched an inning with a walk. 

Gleyber Torres had two hits and an RBI, Juan Soto drew two walks and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Anthony Rizzo drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk and Alex Verdugo drew a walk.  Volpe had four hits and an RBI, Austin Wells had an RBI and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and an RBI.  Volpe hit two doubles and Cabrera hit a double, the Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Rizzo committed an error. 

Ketel Marte had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Joc Pederson drew two walks and Gabriel Moreno had a hit.  Jake McCarthy had a hit, Jorge Barrosa had a hit and Geraldo Perdomo drew a walk.  Barrosa hit a double, Moreno hit a triple and the Diamondbacks were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gurriel Jr. and R. Nelson each committed an error. 

In the top of the second Cabrera hit an RBI single, Torres hit an RBI double and the Yankees had a 2-0 lead.  In the top of the third Volpe hit an RBI single and Wells hit a sac fly and an extra run scored on a couple of errors making it 5-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the third Marte hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 5-1.  In the bottom of the seventh Marte hit a sac fly cutting the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score.

New York Mets get beat by the Washington Nationals as Tyler Megill struggles

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 8-3.  Tyler Megill started for the Mets and was horrible.  The bullpen pitched well and Brandon Nimmo led the offense with three hits. 

Megill pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and eight runs with a walk and a strikeout and lost his second game of the season.  Trevor Williams pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Stephen Nogosek pitched three innings giving up two walks and he struck out three. 

Aaron Sanchez started for the Nationals and he pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a strikeout and won his second game of the season.  Austin Voth pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out one, Victor Arano pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and Paolo Espino pitched an inning giving up two hits. 

Nimmo had three hits, Starling Marte had a hit and Pete Alonso had two hits and two RBI.  Eduardo Escobar had a hit, Jeff McNeil had a hit and Luis Guillorme had two hits.  Nimmo hit a double, Alonso hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Cesar Hernandez had three hits and drew a walk, Juan Soto had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Josh Bell had a hit.  Nelson Cruz had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Yadiel Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk and Keibert Ruiz had two hits and an RBI.  Maikel Franco had an RBI, Dee Strange-Gordon had a hit and an RBI and Hernandez hit a double.  Soto and Cruz each hit a homerun and the Nationals were 3-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Ruiz had a stolen base and Franco committed an error. 

In the first Marte hit an RBI single and Alonso hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 3-0 lead.  IN the bottom of the first Soto hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 3-2.  Ruiz hit an RBI single to tie the game at three and Franco hti a sac fly giving the Nationals a 4-3 lead.  Strange-Gordon hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 5-3.  In the bottom of the second Cruz hit a three-run homerun extending the lead to 8-3 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the rubber game of the three-game series on Thursday afternoon.

New York Yankees lose a close one to the Washington Nationals


The New York Yankees lost to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Sonny Gray started and he didn’t pitch very well.  The bullpen did pretty good and Giancarlo Stanton had three hits and Greg Bird two to lead the offense. 

Gray pitched five innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Chasen Shreve lost his first game of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jonathan Holder pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

 Erick Fedde pitched five innings giving up six hits Jand four runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Justin Miller pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out four and he won his fourth game of the season, Sammy Solis pitched to one batter and got him out and Ryan Madson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out one.  Sean Doolittle saved his 17th game of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI and Didi Gregorius drew two walks.  Stanton had three hits and an RBI, Bird had two hits and an RBI and Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI.  Judge and Bird each hit a double and Bird and Torres each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Gregorius was caught stealing.  Gardner had an outfield assist and Gray had two pickoffs. 

Adam Eaton had three hits, Trea Turner had two hits and Anthony Rendon had an RBI.  Daniel Murphy drew a walk, Matt Adams had three hits and Juan Soto had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk.  Eaton hit a double and Soto hit two homeruns.  The Nationals were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Turner had a stolen base and Taylor was caught stealing.  Soto and Turner were picked off and Kieboom committed an error. 

In the first Rendon hit a sac fly giving the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Judge hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the second Bird hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the third Stanton hit an RBI single to push the lead to 3-1.  In the fourth Soto hit a two-run homerun to give the Nationals a 4-3 lead.  In the fifth Torres hit a solo homerun tying the game at four.  In the seventh Soto hit his second homerun of the game to give the Nationals a 5-4 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the brief two-game series and will play again on Monday in Washington to finish a suspended game and then another game after.  The Yankees will remain at home and begin a four-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night.
