New York Yankees tame the Detroit Tigers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida and the final score was 7-4.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched ok, gave up a couple of homeruns but the wind was blowing out.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched very well and Clint Frazier led the team with three hits. 

Cole won his second game of the spring pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up three hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out five.  Loaisiga pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two walks and he struck out two, Louis Cessa pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Tyler Lyons pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout.  Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning giving up an unearned run and he walked one and struck out one. 

Michael Fulmer started for the Tigers and he took his second loss of the spring.  He pitched two innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Derek Holland pitched two perfect innings with five strikeouts, Bryan Garcia pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a strikeout and Erasmo Ramirez pitched three innings giving up two walks and two strikeouts.  Drew Hutchison pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.   

Luke Voit had a hit, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Josh Breaux drew two walks.  Frazier had three hits and two RBI, Thairo Estrada had a hit and an RBI and Gio Urshela had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Andrew Velazquez had a hit, Derek Dietrich had an RBI and drew a walk and Mike Tauchman had a hit and two RBI.  Max McDowell drew a walk, Velazquez hit a double and Frazier and Tauchman each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Estrada was caught stealing and picked off.  McDowell committed an error. 

Akil Baddoo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and Renato Nunez had a hit and an RBI.  Derek Hill drew a walk, Jacoby Jones had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Victor Reyes had an RBI.  Grayson Greiner drew a walk, Schoop hit a double and Nunez, Jones and Baddoo each hit a homerun.  The Tigers were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Baddoo and Hill each had a stolen base.  Hutchison had a pickoff and Rogers had a passed ball. 

In the first Frazier hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nunez hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  Jones hit a solo homerun and the Tigers grabbed a 2-1 lead.  In the third Urshela drew an RBI walk tying the game at two.  Dietrich was hit by a pitch and the Yankees had a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Frazier hit a solo homerun and Tauchman hit a two-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 6-2.  In the bottom of the seventh Baddoo hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 6-3.  In the ninth Estrada hit an RBI single making it 7-3 and in the bottom of the ninth Reyes hit an RBI ground out cutting the lead to 7-4 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won seven games in a row and will play the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin on Wednesday afternoon.

New York Yankees get beat up by the Seattle Mariners


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-1.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch very well, the bullpen gave up a bunch of runs late also.  DJ LeMahieu and Mike Tauchman each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Loaisiga pitched four innings giving up six hits and four runs with two walks and three strikeouts and lost his first game of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with five strikeouts and Jake Barrett pitched two innings giving up five hits and five runs with two walks and three strikeouts. 

Yusei Kikuchi pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Kikuchi won his second game of the season.  Cory Gearrin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Connor Sadzeck pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Luke Voit had an RBI and Clint Frazier had a hit.  Mike Tauchman had two hits including a double and the Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gio Urshela committed an error. 

Dee Gordon had two hits and an RBI, Mitch Haniger had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Daniel Vogelbach drew a walk.  Edwin Encarnacion had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Domingo Santana had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Omar Narvaez had two hits and two RBI.  Ryon Healy had four hits and two RBI, Dylan Moore had a hit and an RBI.  Santana and Moore each hit a double and Healy hit three doubles.  Encarnacion, Haniger and Healy each hit a homerun.  The Mariners were 4-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Haniger had a stolen base and Moore was caught stealing. 

In the first Encarnacion hit a sac fly to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.  In the third Haniger hit a solo homerun to make it a 2-0 game.  In the fourth Moore hit an RBI double, Gordon hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 4-0.  In the fifth Encarnacion hit a solo homerun to give the Mariners a 5-0 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Voit hit a sac fly and the lead was cut to 5-1.  In the eighth Healy hit a two-run homerun to make it 7-1 and in the ninth Santana hit an RBI double and Narvaez hit a two-run single and it was 10-1 which would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Thursday night.  The Yankees have won two out of the first three games.

New York Yankees offense silent again as they fall just short of the Detroit Tigers


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen pitched well also.  The Yankees offense was silent again as they couldn’t manage much of anything. 

Loaisiga pitched four innings giving up a hit and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Chad Green took his first loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Zack Britton pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Matthew Boyd started for the Tigers and he pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks and 13 strikeouts.  Buck Farmer pitched to two batters and struck them both out and earned his first win of the season.  Joe Jimenez pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Shane Greene pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his fourth save of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Luke Voit drew a walk.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Greg Bird had a hit.  Clint Frazier had a hit and drew a walk, LeMahieu hit a double and the Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Judge had a stolen base and Gardner was caught stealing.  Sanchez committed an error. 

Josh Harrison had a hit, Nick Castellanos drew a walk and Niko Goodrum had a hit and drew a walk.  Jeimer Candelario drew a walk, Christin Stewart had an RBI and Gordon Beckham had a hit and an RBI.  Goodrum hit a double and Beckham hit a homerun.  The Tigers were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Castellanos and Candelario each had a stolen base.  Cabrera committed an error. 

In the third Judge hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Stewart hit a sac fly to tie the game at one.  In the eighth Beckham hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will now head to Baltimore with a 2-4 record and a lot of injuries.  The injuries have piled up and they really need to start to get some players back now.

New YOrk Yankees double up the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 6-3.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  Giancarlo led the offense with two homeruns and DJ LeMahieu also had two hits. 

Loaisiga pitched four innings giving up three hits and two runs with seven strikeouts.  Zack Britton pitched 1 2/3 innings with a walk, Steven Tarpley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Adam Ottavino pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  David Hale pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Aaron Judge drew a couple of walks and Zack Zehner drew a walk.  Stanton had two hits and three RBI, Trey Amburgey had a hit and Luke Voit had an RBI.  LeMahieu had two hits, Troy Tulowitzki drew a walk and Gio Urshela had a hit.  Kyle Holder drew a walk, Urshela hit a double, Stanton hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the first Odubel Herrera hit a solo homerun and in the third Scott Kingery hit a solo homerun to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.  In the third Stanton hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1 and then hit a two-run homerun in the fifth to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the sixth a wild pitch made it a 4-2 game.  In the seventh Voit hit a sac fly and a wild pitch pushed the Yankees lead to 6-2.  In the eighth Lane Adams drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 6-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees spring record improved to 16-8 and they will play the Toronto Blue Jays at home on Saturday in their last spring home game.

New York Yankees get first win of the spring


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday February 27, 2019.  The game took place at Charlotte Sports Park in Charlotte, Florida and the final score was 8-5.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and pitched a couple of good innings.  David Hale also pitched a couple of good innings.  Tyler Wade had three hits and Luke Voit had four RBI to lead the offense. 

Loaisiga pitched two innings giving up no hits or runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Hale pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three, Trevor Stephan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a strikeout and Brady Lail pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and tow runs.  Daniel Alvarez pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one and Stephen Tarpley pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

D.J. LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, L.J. Mazzilli had a hit and Wade had three hits and an RBI.  Matt Lipka had a hit and two RBI, Voit had two hits and four RBI and Jorge Saez drew a walk.  Ryan Lavarnway drew a walk, Estevan Florial had a hit and Trey Amburgey drew a walk.  Zach Zehner drew a walk, Thairo Estrada had a hit and Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk.  Kyle Holder had a hit, Wade hit two doubles, Estrada hit a triple and Lipka and Voit each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Florial had two stolen bases and Zehner had an outfield assist. 

Voit hit an RBI single in the first to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second a wild pitch made it 2-0 and Wade hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Voit hit a three-run homerun to push the lead to 6-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Willy Adames hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-1.  Mike Zunino hit a solo homerun making it 6-2 and Austin Meadows hit a solo homerun to cut the lead in half at 6-3.  In the sixth Lipka hit a two-run homerun pushing the lead to 8-3.  In the bottom of the sixth Jason Coats hit a two-run homerun making it 8-5 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will play the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday afternoon in their first home game of the spring.

The New York Yankees lose in extra innings to the Atlanta Braves


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3 in 11 innings.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he pitched ok.  Gleyber Torres had three hits and Aaron Hicks had two hits. 

Loaisiga started for the Yankees and pitched four innings giving up five hits and three runs with three strikeouts.  Jonathan Holder pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one, Chad Green pitched two innings with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning and struck out the side.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, David Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with one of them earned and he struck out one and lost his third game of the season. 

Anibel Sanchez pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Sam Freeman pitched an inning with two walks, Dan Winkler pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts and Jesse Biddle pitched two innings giving up three hits and a walk with four strikeouts and he won his second game of the season.  A.J. Minter pitched an inning giving up a walk and struck out two and saved his fourth game of the season. 

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, Hicks had two hits and Miguel Andujar had a hit and drew a walk.  Greg Bird had a hit and drew a walk, Torres had three hits and drew a walk and Torres hit a double and Hicks hit two doubles.  Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Torres committed an error. 

Ender Inciarte had a hit, Ozzie Albies drew a walk and Nick Markakis had two hits.  Kurt Suzuki had two hits and an RBI, Ronald Acuna Jr. had two hits and three RBI and Johan Camargo had two hits and an RBI.  Markakis, Suzuki and Acuna Jr. each hit a double and Camargo and Acuna Jr. each hit a homerun.  The Braves were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Acuna Jr. committed an error. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  Camargo hit a solo homerun in the third to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the third a wild pitch gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Suzuki hit an RBI double to tie the game at two and Acuna Jr. hit an RBI double to give them a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Gregorius hit a sac fly to tie the game at three.  In the 11th Acuna Jr. hit a two-run homerun that just tipped off the top of Judge glove to give the Braves a 5-3 lead which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees end three-game skid with win in Philly


The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 4-2.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Loaisiga won his second game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up one hit and no runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman earned his 23rd save of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts. 

Vince Velasquez pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and seven strikeouts and lost his eighth game of the season.  Hector Neris pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Adam Morgan pitched giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and didn’t record an out Yacksel Rios pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Austin Davis pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and drew two walks.  Stanton had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Greg Bird drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI.  Torres hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Odubel Herrera drew a walk, Carlos Santana drew two walks and Scott Kingery had a hit and an RBI.  Maikel Franco had a hit and an RBI and Jorge Alfaro had a hit.  Aaron Altherr drew a walk, Jesmuel Valentin drew a walk and Franco hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Williams and Kingery each had a stolen base. 

In the second Torres hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Judge hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Kingery hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the eighth Stanton hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 4-1 and in the ninth Franco hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees come from behind to defeat the Seattle Mariners


The New York Yankees defeated the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-5.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he struggled a bit and so did Chasen Shreve but Jonathan Holder kept the Yankees in the game and the offense had a big comeback.  Aaron Judge had three hits, Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits each. 

Loaisiga pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Shreve pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk, Holder pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings with a couple of strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman earned his third win of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Felix Hernandez pitched five innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out six.  Juan Nicasio pitched an inning with a strikeout, James Pazos pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Alex Colome pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Ryan Cook took his first loss of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Judge had three hits and an RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Stanton had two hits and two RBI, Gleyber Torres drew a walk and Sanchez had two hits and two RBI.  Greg Bird had a hit, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Clint Frazier had a hit.  Judge, Andujar and Frazier each hit a double and Sanchez and Stanton each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Torres committed an error. 

Dee Gordon had two hits and two RBI, Jean Segura had a hit and drew a walk and Mitch Haniger had a hit.  Nelson Cruz had a hit, Kyle Seager had a hit and drew two walks and Denard Span had a hit and an RBI.  Ryan Healy had two hits and an RBI, Ben Gamel had a hit and Gamel and Seager each hit a double and the Mariners were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Span committed an error. 

In the fourth Span hit an RBI single to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead.  Gordon hit a two-run single to push the lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Span hit a sac fly and it was 4-0.  Healy hit an RBI single and the lead was extended to 5-0.  In the bottom of the fifth Judge hit a two-run single to cut the lead to 5-2.  In the seventh Gregorius hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 5-3.  The game was tied at five in the eighth on a Sanchez two-run homerun.  In the ninth Stanton hit a two-run walk-off homerun to give the Yankee a 7-5 victory. 

The Yankees will be looking for the three-game sweep when they play on Thursday afternoon.
