New York Yankees are defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays in a slug fest


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-5.  Sonny Gray started and he didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen wasn’t great either.  Aaron Hicks and Tyler Austin each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gray pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with four walks.  Domingo German lost his first game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and two runs with four walks and three strikeouts, Adam Warren pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout. 

Marco Estrada won his second game of the season pitching five innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Seung Hwan Oh pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Danny Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Ryan Tepera pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Roberto Osuna pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and saved his sixth game of the season. 

Aaron Judge had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and two RBI.  Hicks had two hits and drew a walk, Austin had two hits and two RBI and Miguel Andujar had a hit and an RBI.  Ronald Torreyes had three hits including a double, Austin, Stanton and Andujar each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Curtis Granderson drew three walks, Teoscar Hernandez had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks and Justin Smoak had a hit.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Russell Martin had a hit and drew a walk and Kendrys Morales had two hits and an RBI.  Kevin Pillar had a hit and drew a walk, Aledmys Diaz drew a walk and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had two hits and three RBI.  Martin and Morales each hit a double.  Hernandez and Solarte each hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

In the second Austin hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  IN the third Hernandez hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the third Stanton hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead.  In the fourth Morales hit an RBI double and Gurriel Jr. hit a two-run single to give the Blue Jays a 5-4 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Andujar hit a solo homerun to tie the game at five.  In the fifth Gurriel Jr. hit an RBI single, Hernandez drew an RBI walk and it was 7-5 Jays.  In the sixth Solarte hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 8-5 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two games and will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees end two game losing streak with win over the Orioles


The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-3.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and pitched well.  The bullpen did their job as well and Brett Gardner and Tyler Austin each had two hits and two RBI and Ronald Torreyes had three hits. 

Gray won his first game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits, David Robertson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and striking out four and Luis Cessa pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Chris Tillman lost his second game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Richard Bleier pitched to two batters and got them both out, Jimmy Yacabonis pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with two walks and Nestor Cortes Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk. 

Gardner had two hits, two RBI and drew two walks, Aaron Judge had a hit and two RBI and Giancarlo Stanton drew two walks.  Didi Gregorius drew two walks, Austin had two hits and two RBI and Miguel Andujar had a hit and an RBI.  Jace Peterson had a hit and drew a walk, Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI and Torreyes had three hits.  Gardner, Torreyes and Judge each hit a double and the Yankees were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gregorius had a stolen base and Peterson was caught stealing.  Gray committed an error. 

Trey Mancini had two hits, Manny Machado had a hit and two RBI and Chris Davis drew a walk.  Tim Beckham had a hit, Pedro Alvarez had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Chance Sisco had a hit.  Machado, Alvarez and Mancini each hit a double.  The Orioles were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Santander and Mancini each had an outfield assist. 

In the second Gardner hit a two-run single to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the third Machado hit a two-run double to tie the game at two.  In the fourth Alvarez hit an RBI double to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Judge hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at three.  In the sixth Andujar hit a sac fly, Romine hit an RBI single and it was 5-3 Yankees.  In the seventh Judge hit an RBI double and Austin hit a two-run single to make it 8-3 Yankees. 

The teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees will try to split the four games and the Orioles will be looking to secure the series win with three out of four.

The New York Yankees lose to the Toronto Blue Jays as Betances struggles


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 5-3.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well, Dellin Betances idn’t as he blew the game.  Tyler Austin hit two homeruns to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk, Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Betances took the loss pitching two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts. 

Marco Estrada pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Ryan Tepera earned the win pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Roberto Osuna earned his first save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Neil Walker drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Brandon Drury drew a walk, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Austin had two hits and three RBI.  Stanton and Gregorius each hit a double and Austin hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Drury and Betances each committed an error. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew a walk and Justin Smoak had three hits and two RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit and an RBI, Randal Grichuk had a hit and drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had a hit and drew a walk.  Luke Maile had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Donaldson and Smoak each hit a double and Solarte hit a homerun.  The Jays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Pillar had three stolen bases and Maile had a stolen base.  Granderson was caught stealing. 

In the first Smoak hit an RBI single giving the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Smoak hit an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Austin hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Maile hit an RBI single to give the Jays back the lead at 3-2.  In the seventh Austin hit his second homerun of the game a solo shot to tie the game at three.  In the eighth Solarte hit a solo homerun to make it a 4-3 lead for the Jays and Pillar stole home to make it 5-3 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees lose a close one to the Minnesota Twins


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 2-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Ronald Torreyes and Tyler Wade led the offense with two hits each. 

Tanaka took the loss pitching four innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Dellin Betances pitched to two batters and struck them both out, Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and retired him and Domingo German pitched three innings giving up a hit and he struck out three.  Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Estevan Florial drew a walk, Shane Robinson drew a walk and Greg Bird had a hit.  Brandon Drury had a hit, Tyler Austin had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Billy McKinney drew a walk.  Austin Romine had a hit, Torreyes had two hits and Wade had two hits.  Torreyes and Wade each hit a double and Austin hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Robinson had a stolen base and Wade was caught stealing.  Robinson was picked off and Torreyes committed an error. 

In the second Bobby Wilson hit a two-run homerun to give the Twins a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Austin hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1 but that would be the final score.

New York Yankees beat the Bosox as the kids play long ball



The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Tyler Austin and Didi Gregorius each had three hits. 

Cessa pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Tommy Layne pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout, Blake Parker won his first game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked a batter and Richard Bleier pitched to two batters and retired them both, one by strikeout.  Tyler Clippard earned his third save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

David Price lost his ninth game of the season and he pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up 12 hits and six runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Brad Ziegler pitched a perfect inning and Robbie Ross Jr. pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and an RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Gregorius had three hits and an RBI and Austin Romine had two hits.  Austin had three hits and two RBI, Sanchez, Gregorius and Austin each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Cessa committed an error. 

In the first Sanchez hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fifth Ellsbury hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the sixth Pedroia hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1 and Betts hit an RBI ground out to make it a 3-2 game.  Gregorius hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth to push the Yankees lead to 4-2.  In the seventh Hill hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.  Pedroia hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the bottom of the seventh Austin hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 6-4 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Wednesday night.  The Yankees will try to keep their faint playoff hopes alive and clinch their 24th straight winning season.

New York Yankees keep up their winning ways in win over the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch that well but the bullpen did.  Brian McCann had three hits and Tyler Austin and Brett Gardner each had two hits. 
Sabathia pitched four innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out four.  Jonathan Holder pitched two innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Blake Parker pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.  Kirby Yates pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Tommy Layne pitched to one batter striking him out and earning his second win of the season. 
Alex Cobb pitched six innings giving up nine hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He struck out a batter.  Brad Boxberger pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Danny Farquhar pitched an inning walking one and striking out two, Enny Romero pitched 2/3 of an inning retiring both batters and Erasmo Ramirez took his 11th loss of the season giving up a hit and a run. 
Gardner had two hits, Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  McCann had three hits and two RBI, Austin had two hits and an RBI and Aaron Judge had a hit.  McCann hit two homeruns and Austin hit a homerun which was a walk off homerun.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 
Logan Forsythe had two hits, Kevin Kiermaier had four hits and two RBI and Evan Longoria had a hit.  Alexei Ramirez had a hit, Steven Souza Jr. had three hits and two RBI and Richie Shaffer had a hit and drwe a walk, Kiermaier hit two homeruns and Souza Jr. hit two homeruns.  The Rays were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Cobb committed an error. 
In the first Kiermaier hit a solo homerun to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Gregorius hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  A throwing error allowed Ellsbury to score and give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In teh second Souza Jr. hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  McCann hit a solo homerun in the second to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the third Kiermaier hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the fourth McCann hit a solo homerun and the Yankees took back the lead at 4-3.  Souza Jr. hit a solo  homerun in the sixth to tie the game at four.  In the ninth Austin hit a walk off homerun to give the Yankees a 5-4 win. 
The Yankees have now won five games in a row and the two teams will play game two of four on Friday night.

Yankees hold on to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays in thrilling fashion



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-6.  Luis Cessa started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was up and down but held on to get the win.  Chase Headley and Tyler Austin each had two RBI to lead the offense. 

Cessa pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  James Pazos gave up a hit to the only batter that he faced, Adam Warren pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Tommy Layne gave up a run and a walk without recording an out.  Ben Heller gave up a hit and a walk, Chasen Shreve pitched to one batter and struck him out and Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with three walks and a strikeout.  Blake Parker earned his first save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout. 

Aaron Sanchez pitched seven innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Jason Grilli pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout and he lost his fifth game of the season.  Bo Schultz pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew two walks, Gary Sanchez had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI, , Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Headley had a hit and two RBI.  Aaron Judge had a hit, Austin had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Gregorius hit a triple.  Mccann, Austin and Headley each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Jose Bautista had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Josh Donaldson drew a walk and Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and two RBI.  Russell Martin had a hit and drew a walk, Troy Tulowitzki had a hit and Dioner Navarro drew a walk.  Michael Saunders had a hit, Melvin Upton Jr. had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Justin Smoak drew a walk, Devin ravis had a hit and Pillar hit a double.  Encarnacion hit a homerun and the Blue Jays were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Travis committed an error and Bautista had an outfield assist. 

In the first Encarnacion hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth McCann hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the first Bautista hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 2-1 lead.  Austin hit a two run homerun in the seventh and the Yankees had a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth Pillar hit a two run double to give the Blue Jays back the lead at 4-3.  Gregorius hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at four.  Castro hit a sac fly and Headley hit a two run homerun and it was 7-4 Yankees still in the eighth.  In the ninth the Blue Jays cut the score to 7-6 but that was how the game ended.  Encarnacion hit an RBI single and Upton Jr. hit an RBI single. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday night with the Yankees looking to sweep.

The New York Yankees win second in a row behind a strong Masahiro Tanaka



The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen pitched pretty well.  Jacoby Ellsbury led the offense with three hits and three RBI and Tyler Austin had two hits and two RBI. 

Tanaka pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up two runs on seven hits.  He walked three and struck out four and earned his 12th win of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a run and two walks, Ben Heller gave up a hit and Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and retired him.  Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dellin Betances saved his ninth game of the season.  He pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

R.A. Dickey pitched four innings giving up seven hits and five runs with a walk and five strikeouts.  He lost his 14th game of the season.  Francisco Liriano pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three, Brett Cecil pitched a perfect inning and Joaquin Benoit pitched an inning walking one and struck out three. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Ellsbury had three hits and three RBI and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Starlin Castro had a hit and Austin Romine drew a walk.  Austin had two hits and two RBI, Austin hit two doubles and Ellsbury hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Headley had a stolen base and Gardner had an outfield assist. 

Devon Travis had a hit, Jose Bautista had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Josh Donaldson had two walks.  Edwin Encarnacion had three hits and two RBI, Michael Saunders had a hit and Melvin Upton Jr. had two hits.  Ezequiel Carrera drew a walk, Travis and Upton Jr. hit a double.  The Blue Jays were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Upton Jr. was caught stealing. 

In the first Bautista hit an RBI single giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Ellsbury hit a two run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the third Ellsbury hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 Yankees.  In the fourth Austin hit a two run double to push the Yankees lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Encarnacion hit a two run single to make it 5-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won two games in a row.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees rookies start off with a bang in Yankees victory



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-4.  Masahiro Tanaka started and his line didn't look great but he was hurt by only one batter.  The bullpen did a good job and Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin each had a homerun and two hits in their MLB debuts. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He didn't walk a batter and he struck out eight to win his ninth game of the season.  Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning, Anthony Swarzak pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Tommy Layne pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Matt Andriese pitched five innings giving up eight hits and six runs with no walks and eight strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Erasmo Ramirez pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Danny Farquhar pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Aaron Hicks had two hits and three RBI and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had two hits and two RBI, Starlin Castro had two hits and an RBI and Austin had two hits and an RBI.  Judge had two hits and an RBI, Gregorius hit a double and Austin, Judge, Castro, Hicks and Gregorius each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Hicks and Austin each had a stolen base. 

Kevin Kiermaier had a hit, Evan Longoria had two hits and Brad Miller had two hits and four RBI.  Matt Duffy had a hit, Miller hit two homeruns and the Rays were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the second Austin hit a solo homerun and one batter later Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Miller hit a three run homerun to give the Rays a 3-2 lead.  Castro hit a solo homerun in the fourth to tie the game at three.  In the fifth Hicks hit a three run homerun to give the Yankees a 6-3 lead.  Miller hit his second homerun of the game in the sixth to cut the lead to 6-4 and in the seventh Gregorius hit a two run homerun to push the lead to 8-4 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees will be looking for the sweep.

New York Yankees pick up first win of the spring



The New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday afternoon.  It was the Yankees first victory of the spring and the game took place in Bradenton, Florida.  Esmil Rogers started for the Yankees and Chase Whitley followed him in relief.  Tyler Austin was the star of the game. 

Rogers pitched two scoreless innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Whitley pitched two scoreless giving up two hits and striking out one and Cesar Vargas pitched two innings giving up four hits and a run with a strikeout.  Fred Lewis pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two, Nick Rumbelow pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out the side and Garrison pitched a perfect inning. 

Brett Gardner drew two walks, Ramon Flores had a hit and Chris Young had a hit.  Austin had a hit and an RBI, Garrett Jones had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Pirela had a hit.  Rob Refsnyder had two hits and Tyler Wade had a hit.  Refsnyder, Young and Jones each hit a double and Austin hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Flores was picked off and Gardner and Austin each had an outfield assist. 

In the top of the fifth Jones hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. The Pirates tied the score in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Jaff Decker.  In the top of the eighth Austin hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead and that was the final score.  The Yankees will play a split squad day/night game on Friday.  They play a day game against the Phillies in Clearwater and a night game in Tampa against the Pirates.
