Yankees Injury Updates
Here are some of the injury updates from the Yankees:
Jorge Posada-He is fine, he could of batted lefthanded today if they needed him too. The situation didn't arise though.
Mark Teixeira-He said he felt really good today and you know your own body. He said he knew he would be ok. He was wearing a protective sleeve on his arm today and said Joe Girardi told him he wants him to wear it until he 100% doesn't feel anything at all.
Alfredo Aceves-Joe Girardi just said that he is better then he was yesterday and is still scheduled to pitch tomorrow.
Dave Robertson-This is a strange one but Joe Girardi saw him shaking his leg during the game and went to check on him. It turned out his shoes were hurting him, Robertson said maybe it is time for new shoes.

A few Yankee Notes to wrap up the day
Joe Girardi said he didn't read anything into Joba's struggles today. He had been feeling sick and only threw a light bullpen. The Yankees weren't worried about him getting hurt so they figured lets let him pitch. "I am not going to make too much out of it" Joe Girardi said. "You wonder how much he had his legs under him, after being sick for a few days."
Phil Hughes showed some good signs, he threw about 8 or 9 changeups including 3 in a row to Ben Zobrist. He didn't show great fastball command but the Yankees as a team didn't.
Nick Johnson told the Yankees he could of played today and tomorrow but Joe Girardi will have him sit out until Monday. He will take BP tomorrow.
Nick Johnsons right wrist is ok, it hit the ground diving back to first base. He was checked out on the field but Joe Girardi said he is fine.
Andy Pettitte, Javier Vazquez, Mariano Rivera, Damaso Marte, Chad Gaudin, Sergio Mitre, Alfredo Aceves and Chan Ho Park each threw side sessions today.

Yanks cap another great homestand with walkoff win
The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 4-3 this afternoon in 11 innings. A.J. Burnett got the start and battled his way through 6 innings giving up 3 runs, he had 7 strikeouts with only 2 walks but Jorge Posada really had a tough time catching him today. He gave up a season high 10 hits. Dave Robertson and Phil Hughes each pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Robertson had a strikeout and Phil Hughes had a couple of strikeouts. Chad Gaudin making his Yankees debut got the win with 2 scoreless innings. He really looked good, he has pretty good stuff it is just a matter of him being consistand and having good location. He will get the start on Sunday with Sergio Mitre on Saturday. I know people have been asking why Mitre again and I feel the same way but with Joba being pushed back to Wednesday and it looking like this is what they have to do the rest of the year they need Mitre to be in the rotation and they figure there hitting can cover it up and win some of those games. I am sure also with a 6 game lead it is much easier to do this. I know a lot of people also don't believe in this innings cap but it is proven now in Baseball that you have to be very careful with young pitchers, the guys who pitched a lot of innings the last couple of years were Justin Verlander who had a couple off years after making the world series until this year, Mike Pelfrey who has struggled the Tampa pitchers etc, I think you get the idea. I do want to point out also though this is only the regular season the Yankees said it doesn't matter in the postseason so he will be pitching a game 3 or 4.
The offense was led by Robinson Cano hitting a solo homerun and also having a walkoff single which would of been a double if it had to be. Derek Jeter got hit by a pitch in the first inning and had to leave the game, he wants to play tomorrow but I think he may have the day off. Jorge Posada got beat up also today but seems to be ok and the big news from after the game was that Mariano was creaky according to Joe Girardi, he said he isn't worried but of course with a older pitcher you have to be somewhat concerned. The manager said he expects him to be ok for tomorrow but we will have to see. A-rod got hit in the elbow in the 11th and was in obvious pain but stayed in and scored the winning run, he will be off tomorrow as was scheduled anyway but lets see after that, hopefully that will be all he needs. Johnny Damon had a couple of hits a walk and rbi. That was about it for the Yankees offense as they really didn't have a good game today. The Yankees will begin a 4 game series with Seattle tomorrow night.

Here is the lineup:

Yanks at Orioles(Happy Mothers Day)
Today is Mothers day, Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there. Look for the Pink bats today in honor of Breast cancer awareness and research. Here are the pregame notes and lineup as always via Peter Abraham.
The game is on at 1:35 on YES.
The Yankees have lost 6 of 7 and are 5-10 in their last 15 games.
The Yankees have a run differential of -23. There are only 5 teams in baseball that are worse and they are the Padres, Orioles, Nationals, Indians and Diamondbacks. The team with the best run differential is the Dodgers, they are +59.
The Yankees are 4-11 against their own division, they are 2-12 when they commit an error. They are 2-6 in May. They have allowed 190 runs which is the most in baseball. They have scored 167 runs which is 5th most in baseball- I still think the hitting coach is terrible but they have games where they score a bunch which boosts their average but when it counts they don't score. They got killed yesterday but it was another example when with the bases loaded and 0 outs they were only able to manage 1 run.
Johnny Damon is on fire going 11 for his last 21 with 7 extra base hits and 10 rbi's. Melky Cabrera has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games.
Robinson Cano is 3 of his last 30, he has 1 rbi in his last 10 games. It would help if him Jeter and Tex started hitting a little as they are getting nothing out of these guys.
Why is Angel Berroa on this team, he has played in 7 of 17 games with 12 ab's. Ramiro Pena will be the defensive replacement and if your looking for pop off the bench I think they have a few other guys in the minors that would be more useful but with the Yanks I don't get it just like the pitchers they sent back down and Edwar Ramirez and Jose Veras are still around.
Derek Jeter has 7 stolen bases, he only had 11 all of last season. Joba will pitch despite the burst blood vessel.

Wangs Day updated
Chien-Ming Wang threw seven innings giving up nine hits, five runs, four of which were earned. I said earlier he had no walks and eleven strikeouts and threw 91 pitches, 70 for strikes. The question is what does all of this mean, really nothing as it is hard to judge a guy when we didn't see him pitch, also he was pitching to minor leaguers with minor leaguers fielding behind him. The best thing for him is that he got up to ninety-one pitches as he needs to build that arm strength, with him averaging ninety-one that is still down from his normal and although he is expected to rejoin the team in Boston tomorrow I would expect to see Phil Hughes pitching Tuesday in Detroit.
I think he needs to make at least a couple of more starts down there getting his pitch count up to the 100s and getting his velocity back and then he will be ready to rejoin the rotation. The question of course is if Phil Hughes is pitching well how do you swap out Hughes for Wang, well I don't think you would then, you would probably use Wang as the long man for now and see how it all plays out. Phil Hughes has looked good but that is AAA and he still has to prove it consistantly at the major league level. I am a big fan of Hughes and I think this is a good second chance for him if he gets it, he is healthy and as long as he stays healthy he is poised for a big year.

New York Mets Recap
The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals today 6-4. Mike Pelfrey got the start going 3 innings giving up 5 hits and 3 runs with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Livan Hernandez went 2 2/3 innings giving up 5 hits 3 runs with 3 walks and 1 strikeout. Duaner Sanchez pitched a perfect inning. Angel Pagan had a hit on the offensive side, Tatis had a hit and a rbi and Ramon Castro had a hit and 3 rbi. The Mets will take on team Italy at Tradition Field tomorrow.
The big news of the day for the Mets was that Johan Santana threw a 42 pitch bullpen session today and felt fine, they say there is no need for a MRI and Santana says he still wants to pitch opening day.
