The New York Mets waste another brilliant effort by Matt Harvey

The Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets. The game took place on Friday night and at Citi Field in Flushing, New York. Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched great. Josh Satin had three hits and two RBI and David Wright had a couple of hits.

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up three hits and a run with 11 strikeouts. David Aardsma pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Josh Edgin gave up a hit and a run and Brandon Lyon gave up a hit and a run with a walk. Scott Rice pitched 1/3 of an inning striking out one and Bobby Parnell took his fourth loss of the season. Parnell pitched an inning giving up two hits and a two runs.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Daniel Murphy had a hit and Wright had two hits. Marlon Byrd had a hit and an RBI, Satin had three hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit and drew a walk. Omar Quintanilla drew a walk, Wright hit a double and Satin hit two doubles. Byrd and Lagares hit a double and the Mets were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

Ross Detwiler pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with two of them being earned. He walked two and struck out four. Ross Ohlendorf pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Tyler Clippard won his sixth game of the season pitching a scoreless inning and giving up a walk and Drew Storen saved his second game of the season with a perfect inning.

Denard Span had two hits, Rendon drew a walk and Ryan Zimmerman had two hits and three RBI. Jayson Wrth had a hit, Ian Desmond had two hits and two RBI and Roger Bernadina had a hit. Kurt Suzuki had an RBI, Span, Zimmerman, Werth and Desmond each hit a double. Span hit a triple and Desmond hit a homerun. The Nationals were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Desmond and Ohlendorf each committed an error.

In the fourth Byrd reached on an error and a run scored to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Desmond hit a homerun in the fifth to tie the game at one. Byrd hit an RBI double and Satin an RBI single in the fifth giving the Mets a 3-1 lead. Satin hit an RBI double in the seventh to extend the Mets lead to 4-1. In the eighth Zimmerman hit a three run double to tie the game at four. In the ninth Desmond hit an RBI double and Suzuki hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-4 Nationals and that would be the final score.

The Mets record fell to 32-44 and the Nationals record improved to 40-39. The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Saturday afternoon.

The New York Yankees lose a tough one in Baltimore

The New York Yankees lose a tThe Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees on Friday night. The final score was 4-3 and the game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. CC Sabathia made the start and was cruising and then had a bad sixth inning. He didn’t pitch a bad game, his defense didn’t help him either. Robinson Cano had three hits to lead the offense.

Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up five hits and four runs with six strikeouts. Sabathia took his sixth loss of the season and Joba Chamberlain pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Brett Gardner had two hits, Jayson Nix had a hit and Cano had three hits and an RBI. Vernon Wells had a hit and an RBI, Zoilo Almonte had a hit and Chris Stewart had a hit and an RBI. David Adams had a hit and drew a walk, Lyle Overbay had a hit and Gardner hit a double. The Yankees were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. Almonte had a stolen base and Gonzalez committed an error.

T.J. McFarland pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts. Kevin Gausman picked up the win, his first of the season. Gausman pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out four and Tommy Hunter picked up his second save of the season. He pitched two innings giving up a hit and striking out three.

Manny Machado had a hit and two RBI, Adam Jones had a hit and an RBI and Nate McLouth had two hits and an RBI. Alexia Casilla had a hit, Machado hit a double and McClouth hit a homerun. The Orioles were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.

Cano hit an RBI single in the first to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead. In the third Wells hit an RBI single and Stewart hit an RBI single to make it 3-0 Yankees. Machado hit a two run double and Jones hit an RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at three. In the seventh McClouth hit a solo homerun to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.

The Yankees have now lost three games in a row and are falling further behind in the AL East. The Yankees record dropped to 42-37 and the Orioles record improved to 45-36. The two teams will play game two of the three game series on Friday night.

The New York Mets win makeup game in Colorado

The New York Mets defeated the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night. The final score was 3-2 and the game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. Jeremy Hefner started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good. Marlon Byrd had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense.

Hefner pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with one of them being earned. He walked one and struck out three. LaTroy Hawkins won his third game of the season pitching a perfect inning. He struck out two batters, Scott Rice pitched an inning giving up two hits and struck out two and Bobby Parnell saved his 14th game of the season. He pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Eric Young Jr. had a hit, Omar Quintanilla drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had two hits. Byrd had two hits and two RBI, Josh Satin had a hit and drew a walk, Zach Lutz had a hit and drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit. Hefner had an RBI, Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit and Byrd hit a homerun. The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. Murphy had a stolen base, Satin committed an error and Byrd had an outfield assist. Rice had a pickoff.

Tyler Chatwood pitched six innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and two strikeouts. Rob Scahill pitched an inning givin up a hit, Matt Belisle pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts. Belisle lost his fifth game of the season and Rex Brothers pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.

Chris Dickerson drew a walk, Rutledge had a hit and Michael Cuddyer had three hits. Rosario had two hits, Todd Helton had an RBI, Herrera had a hit. LeMahieu had a hit, Rosario hit a double and the Rockies were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. LeMahieu was picked off.

Helton hit a sacrifice fly in the second to make it 1-0 Rockies. Arenado grounded out scoring another run and making it 2-0. In the fifth the Mets cut the lead in half with a groundout by Hefner. Byrd hit a two run homerun in the eighth giving the Mets a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.

The Mets record improved to 32-43 and the Rockies record dropped to 39-41. This was a one game makeup from earlier in the year. The Mets will return home to take on the Washington Nationals

The Yankees are shutout by the Texas Rangers to lose the series

The New York Yankees lost to the Texas Rangers on Thursday afternoon. The final score was 2-0 and the game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Phil Hughes started for the Yankees and pitched well. The Yankees offense managed two hits and one of them was a leadoff hit in the first.

Hughes pitched eight innings giving up two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out five and lost his seventh game of the season. Preston Claiborne pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.

Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Jayson Nix drew a walk and Robinson Cano drew a walk. Austin Romine had a hit and the Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. Nix had a stolen base.

Derek Holland pitched a complete game shutout. He allowed two hits, two walks and struck out seven. Holland won his sixth game of the season.

Ian Kinsler had an RBI, Nelson Cruz had a hit and Mitch Moreland had a hit. David Murphy had a hit, Jurickson Profar had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Engel Beltre had two hits. Cruz hit a double, Profar a homerun. The Rangers were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.

In the third Kinsler hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Texas. Profar hit a solo homerun in the fifth to make it 2-0 and that was the final score.

The Yankees have lost two straight and lost two out of three in the series. The Yankees record dropped to 42-36 and the Rangers record improved to 46-33. The Yankees will head to Baltimore to take on the Orioles in a three game weekend series.
