The New York Mets lose an offensive game against the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Friday afternoon.  The game took place at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 12-7 Mets.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched poorly.  David Wright and Michael Conforto each had a couple of hits to lead the offense but Conforto also had four RBI. 

Colon pitched five innings giving up nine hits and eight runs with five strikeouts.  Buddy Carlyle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with two of them being earned and he walked one, Zach Thornton pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jim Henderson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched a perfect inning striking out two. 

Alejandro De Aza had a hit, Wright had two hits and Eric Campbell had a hit and drew a walk.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and drew a walk and Marc Krauss drew a walk.  T.J. Rivera had a hit and an RBI, Conforto had two hits and four RBI and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Kevin Plawecki drew a walk, Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI and Cespedes and Campbell each hit a double.  Lagares, Rivera and Conforto each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Cespedes was picked off and Rivera committed an error. 

In the first Daniel Murphy hit an RBI double to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  Stephen Drew hit an RBI double to make it 2-0 and Danny Espinosa hit a three run homerun to push the lead to 5-0 all in the first inning.  In the second Michael Taylor hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 6-0 Nationals.  In the third Lagares hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-1.  Cespedes hit an RBI double making it a 6-2 game.  In the fourth Jose Lobaton hit an RBI double giving the Nationals a 7-2 lead.  In the fifth Chris Heisey hit a solo homerun making it 8-2 and in the sixth Matt den Dekker hit an RBI single to push the lead to 9-2.  Drew reached on a fielding error and two runs scored to make it 11-2 and then Heisey hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 12-2 in the sixth.  Rivera hit a solo homerun in the sixth and in the ninth Conforto hit a grand slam to cut the lead to 12-7 but that would be the final score.  The Mets record fell to 7-7 in the spring with a couple of ties.   

Michael Pineda strong again in New York Yankees win over the Atlanta Braves



The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  Michael Pineda started and pitched well as he has all spring.  Starlin Castro led the offense with a couple of hits and an RBI. 

Pineda pitched four innings giving up four hits and a run with no walks and four strikeouts.  Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning and Nick Goody pitched a perfect inning.  Diego Moreno pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Didi Gregorius drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and Mark Teixeira had a hit.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI and Castro had two hits and an RBI.  Carlos Corporan had a hit, Headley hit a double and the Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Castro had a stolen base and Chris Denorfia had an outfield assist. 

In the third Blake Lalli hit an RBI single to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Beltran hit an RBI single to tie the game at one and Headley hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Castro hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 Yankees.  IN the fifth Jace Peterson hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees improved their record to 7-9 with a couple of ties in the spring.  They have picked it up lately as they got off to a bad start.  The Yankees will travel to Fort Myers, Florida to take on the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon.   

New York Yankees get blown out by the Baltimore Orioles as CC struggles



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 11-2.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he struggled.  Didi Gregorius had a couple of RBI to lead the offense which didn't do much themselves. 

Sabathia pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up six hits and seven runs with four of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out one.  Andrew Miller pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out a batter, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Luis Cessa pitched two innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  James Pazos pitched a perfect inning and Nick Rumbelow pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Brian McCann had a hit, Mark Teixeira drew a walk and Chris Gittens drew a walk.  Dustin Ackley had a hit, Jonathan Diaz drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Gregorius had a hit and two RBI, Rob Refsnyder had a hit and Ackley hit a double and Hicks hit a triple.  The Yankees were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Refsnyder committed an error and Hicks had an outfield assist. 

In the first Manny Machado hit an RBI double giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  Mark Trumbo hit a three run homerun and it was 4-0 in the first.  In the bottom of the second Gregorius hit a two run single to cut the lead to 4-2.  Machado hit a two run single in the fourth to push the lead to 6-2 Orioles.  Trumbo hit an RBI single to make it 7-2.  In the sixth Machado hit an RBI single making it an 8-2 game and in the seventh Dariel Alvarez hit an RBI single making it 9-2 Orioles.  A wild pitch made it 10-2 and in the ninth Ryan Flaherty hit an RBI double to finish the scoring off at 11-2 Orioles. 

The Yankees are now 6-9 on the spring and will take on the Atlanta Braves at home in Tampa on Saturday afternoon.  Michael Pineda will make the start as he looks to continues his strong spring.

Luis Severino is strong in Yankees victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates



The New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at McKechnie Field in Bradenton, Florida and the final score was 7-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched ok, not great though in his two innings.  Luis Severino pitched great out of the bullpen and Starlin Castro and Rob Refsnyder each hit a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs with no walks and a strikeout.  Johnny Barbato pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Severino pitched four innings giving up two hits and no runs and he struck out five and Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Tyler Olson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Castro had a hit and an RBI, Pete Kozma had a hit and Carlos Beltran drew a walk.  Cesar Puello had a hit, Brian McCann had a hit and Chase Headley had a hit and an RBI.  Dustin Ackley had two hits, Refsnyder had a hit and three RBI and Ronald Torreyes had a hit.  Chris Denorfia had a hit, Ben Gamel drew a walk and Mark Payton drew a walk.  Ackley and McCann each hit a double and Castro and Refsnyder each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first Andrew McCutchen hit a solo homerun giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  In the second Refsnyder hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the second John Jaso hit an RBI single to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.  Refsnyder hit a two run homerun in the fourth  to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Castro hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 4-2.  Headley hit a sac fly making it 5-2 Yankees.  In the seventh Austin Romine reached on an error and a run scored giving the Yankees a 6-2 lead.  Jonathan Diaz grounded into a double play and the score was 7-2 which would be the final score. 

The Yankees improved their spring record to 6-8 with a couple of ties and they will take on the Baltimore Orioles at home in Tampa on Friday night.   

Jacob deGrom, Curtis Granderson and Travis d'Arnaud lead New York Mets to victory



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the final score was 6-5 Mets.  deGrom pitched very well for the Mets and Curtis Granderson and Travis d'Arnaud led the offense. 

deGrom pitched three scoreless innings giving up a hit with no walks and three strikeouts.  Steven Matz pitched four innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and three strikeouts, Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Sean Gilmartin pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Granderson had two hits and three RBI, T.J. Rivera had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Johnny Monell had a hit and drew a walk, Wilmer Flores drew a walk and Alejandro De Aza had a hit and drew two walks.  d'Arnaud had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk, Eric Campbell drew a walk and Danny Muno had a hit.  d'Arnaud  hit a double and the Mets were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the third d'Arnaud hit an RBI double giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Granderson hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Mets.  In the fourth d'Arnaud hit a two run single to push the lead to 4-0 Mets.  Granderson hit a two run single making it 6-0 Mets.  In the sixth Marcell Ozuna hit an RBI single making it 6-1 and in the seventh Jeff Mathis hit an RBI single and Austin Nola hit an RBI triple to cut the lead to 6-3.  In the bottom of the ninth Francisco Arcia hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-4 and Nola made it 6-5 on an RBI double.  The New York Mets are now 7-6 on the spring with a couple of ties and they will play at Tradition Field on Friday night against the Washington Nationals.
