New York Mets lose in extra innings to the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Saturday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-3 in ten innings.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and only pitched an inning coming back from injury.  Matt Harvey came in relief of him and wasn’t great but wasn’t terrible.  Nori Aoki had two hits to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched an inning giving up a hit, Harvey pitched four innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a couple of strikeouts, Chasen Bradford pitched an inning giving up a hit and Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning with a walk.  Jamie Callahan pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Jacob Rhame pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and he lost his first game of the season.  Kevin McGowan pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Stephen Strasburg pitched five innings giving up seven hits and three runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Matt Albers pitched a perfect inning, Brandon Kintzler pitched an inning giving up a hit and Ryan Madson pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.  Sammy Solis pitched an inning with a couple of strikeouts and Sean Doolitle saved his 23rd game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

Aoki had two hits, Jose Reyes had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera drew two walks.  Brandon Nimmo had a hit and an RBI, Kevin Plawecki had a hit and two RBI and Dominic Smith had a hit.  Amed Rosario had a hit, Phillip Evans had a hit, Reyes and Nimmo each hit a double and the Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Trea Turner had a hit, Jayson Werth had a hit and Daniel Murphy had two hits and an RBI.  Anthony Rendon drew three walks, Adam Lind had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Howie Kendrick had a hit.  Michael Taylor had a hit and drew a walk, Andrew Stevenson drew a walk and Matt Wieters had a hit and an RBI.  Wilmer Difo had a hit, Murphy and Turner each hit a double and Lind, Wieters and Murphy each hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

In the third Nimmo hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  Plawecki hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the fourth Lind hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the fifth Wieters hit a solo homerun to tie the game a three.  In the tenth Murphy hit a solo homerun to give the Nationals a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.   

New York Yankees defeat the Toronto Blue Jays and cllinch postseason berth


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 5-1.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Greg Bird and Todd Frazier each hit a homerun. 

Gray won his 10th game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched an inning with two strikeouts, David Robertson pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning. 

Joe Biagini pitched five innings giving up three hits and three runs with four walks and three strikeouts.  Biagini lost his 12th game of the season.  Danny Barnes pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Aaron Loup pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Tim Mayza pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Luis Santos pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Aaron Judge had a hit, Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit and drew two walks.  Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Starlin Castro had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Bird had a hit and three RBI.  T. Frazier had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Judge and Sanchez each hit a double and Bird and T. Frazier each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Headley had a stolen base and Ellsbury was caught stealing. 

Teoscar Hernandez had a hit and an RBI, Josh Donaldson drew a walk and Justin Smoak had two hits and drew a walk.  Kendrys Morales drew a walk, Raffy Lopez had a hit and Hernandez hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the third Hernandez hit a solo homerun giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Bird hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead.  In the eighth T. Frazier hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 4-1.  In the ninth Castro hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees clinched a postseason berth and will complete their three-game series on Sunday afternoon.  They will also complete the road portion of their 2017 regular season. 


New York Mets defeat the Washington Nationals


The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Friday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 7-6.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well.  The Mets bullpen did pitch well and Nori Aoki had three hits and Travis d’Arnaud had four RBI to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched five innings giving up four hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out four.  Chasen Bradford won his second game of the season and pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, Paul Sewald pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one and Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him.  AJ Ramos pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Josh Smoker pitched to one batter and retired him and Jeurys Familia pitched to one batter and struck him out and saved his fourth game of the season. 

Edwin Jackson pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Oliver Perez pitched to one batter and retired him, Joe Blanton lost his fourth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Enny Romero pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Shawn Kelley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Matt Albers pitched to two batters and retired them both. 

Aoki had three hits and two RBI, Jose Reyes had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks.  d’Arnaud had two hits and four RBI, Dominic Smith had a hit and Amed Rosario had a hit.  Juan Lagares had two hits, Lagares hit a double and Aoki hit a double.  d’Arnaud hit two homeruns and the Mets were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Aoki, Lagares each had a stolen base and Rosario was caught stealing.  Rosario and Sewald each committed an error. 

Wilmer Difo had a hit and drew a walk, Alejandro De Aza each had a hit and Howie Kendrick had two hits and an RBI.  Adam Lind had a hit, three RBI and drew two walks, Victor Robles had a hit and two RBI and Rafael Bautista drew a walk.  Kendrick hti a double and DeAza and Robles each hit a triple and Lind hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  De Aza had two outfields. 

d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun to make it 1-0 Mets.  In the third Lind hit a three-run homerun to give the Nationals a 3-1 lead.  In the fifth Kendrick hit an RBI double to make it a 4-1 lead.  Robles hit a two-run triple to extend the lead to 6-1.  In the fifth Aoki hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2.  Cabrera hit an RBI single to make it 6-3 and d’Arnaud hit a three-run homerun to tie the game at six.  In the bottom of the sixth Aoki hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 7-6 lead and that would be the final score.

The New York Yankees were drilled by the Toronto Blue Jays as Tanaka doesn't have it


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 8-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The Yankees offense was led by Aaron Judge who had two hits and two walks. 

Tanaka pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and eight runs with seven of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out six and he lost his 12th game of the season.  Tommy Khanle pitched to one batter and struck him out, Jonathan Holder pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Marco Estrada won his 10th game pitching seven innings and giving up three hits and a run.  He walked three and struck out four.  Mat Dermody pitched to two batters and retired them both, Tom Koehler pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a walk and Carlos Ramirez pitched a perfect inning. 

Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Todd Frazier had a hit and drew a walk and Clint Frazier drew a walk.  T. Frazier and Judge each hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Castro committed an error. 

Teoscar Hernandez had two hits and an RBI, Josh Donaldson had a hit and Jose Bautista had an RBI and drew two walks.  Kevin Pillar had a hit, Russell Martin had a hit and two RBI and Miguel Montero had a hit.  Kendrys Morales drew a walk, Ryan Goins had a hit and four RBI and Hernandez, Martin and Goins each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Bautista hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.  In the third Hernandez hit a solo homerun to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Martin hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the sixth Goins hit a grand slam to make it a 8-1 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.   

New York Yankees sweep the Minnesota Twins


The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 11-3.  Luis Severino started and he didn’t pitch well, the bullpen did pitch well.  Gary Sanchez, Jacoby Ellsbury and Greg Bird had three hits each to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched three innings giving up five hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out three.  Chasen Shreve picked up his fourth win of the season pitching three innings and giving up a walk with three strikeouts, Ben Heller pitched an inning giving up a hit and Domingo German pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out four. 

Bartolo Colon pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Colon took his 14th loss of the season.  Tyler Duffey pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and three runs and he struck out one, Nik Turley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and Michael Tonkin pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out three.  Glen Perkins pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and John Curtiss pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Clint Frazier had a hit and Aaron Judge had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk.  Sanchez had three hits and two RBI, Didi Gregorius had a hit and three RBI and Matt Holliday had a hit.  Ellsbury had three hits and drew a walk, Todd Frazier drew a walk and Bird had three hits and an RBI.  Ellsbury hit a double and Bird hit two doubles.  Ellsbury and C. Frazier each hit a triple and Judge, Sanchez and Gregorius each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 7-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Brian Dozier had a hit and drew a walk, Joe Mauer had a hit and an RBI and Jorge Polanco had a hit and two RBI.  Zack Granite drew a walk, Kennys Vargas had two hits and drew a walk and Jason Castro had a hit.  The Twins were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Dozier was caught stealing. 

In the third Mauer hit an RBI single to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  Polanco hit a two-run single and it was 3-0 Twins.  In the bottom of the third Judge and Sanchez hit back-to-back homeruns to tie the game at three.   In the fourth Bird hit an RBI double, Gardner an RBI single and Sanchez an RBI single to make it a 6-3 game.  Gregorius hit a three-run homerun and the lead was extended to 9-3.  In the fifth a wild pitch and a Judge sac fly pushed the lead to 11-3 and that would be the final score of the game. 

The Yankees swept the three-game series from the Twins who are the second wild card.  The Yankees increased their lead on the first wild card by seven games essentially sealing that up and will head to Toronto for three on Friday night.
