The New York Yankees sweep the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon.  The final score was 6-5 and the game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Nestor Cortes Jr. started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the Yankees bullpen held the lead and the offense was led by DJ LeMahieu who had all six RBI. 

Cortes Jr. pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Cortes won his fifth game of the season.  Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and Mark Leiter Jr. pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts.  Clay Holmes picked up his 22nd save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit. 

Cristopher Sanchez started for the Phillies, and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs.  He walked one and struck out seven and took his seventh loss of the season.  Jose Ruiz pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Yunior Marte pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one.  Tanner Banks pitched a perfect inning and Carlos Estevez pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Juan Soto had a hit, Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and Jazz Chisholm had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had a hit; Alex Verdugo had a hit and LeMahieu had two hits and six RBI.  Carlos Narvaez had a hit, LeMahieu hit a double and a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Kyle Schwarber had a hit and drew two walks; Austin Hays had a hit and Alec Bohm had two hits and an RBI.  Nick Castellanos had two hits and three RBI, Weston Wilson had a hit and an RBI and Bryson Stott had two hits.  Brandon Marsh drew a walk, Hays and Bohm each hit a double and Bohm hit a triple.  Wilson hit a homerun and the Phillies were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the top of the second LeMahieu hit a grand slam giving the Yankees a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Bohm hit an RBI groundout cutting the lead to 4-1.  Castellanos hit an RBI single, and it was 4-2.  In the bottom of the fifth Wilson hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-3.  In the top of the sixth LeMahieu hit a two-run double giving the Yankees a 6-3 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Castellanos hit an RBI groundout and it was 6-4 Yankees.  In the bottom of the eighth Castellanos hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 6-5 but that was the final score.  The Yankees swept the three-game series and will be off on Thursday.  They will begin a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night and the start of a nine game homestand.

New York Yankees defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in back and forth extra inning clash

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 7-6 in 12 innings.  Will Warren made his first major league start and pitched well, he made one mistake which was a three-run homerun.  The Yankees bullpen pitched great and Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm led the offense with three hits each. 

Warren pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Jake Cousins pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Tommy Khanle pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Luke Weaver pitched a perfect inning.  Clay Holmes pitched an inning with three hits and a run and a walk, he blew his eighth save of the season.  Mark Leiter Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Michael Tonkin earned his fourth win of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and three strikeouts. 

Aaron Nola started for the Phillies and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Jose Alvarado faced one batter and got him out, Matt Strahm pitched an inning giving up a hit and three runs with two walks and two strikeouts and Jose Ruiz pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two.  Carlos Estevez pitched a perfect inning, Jeff Hoffman pitched two innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with a strikeout and Orion Kerkering pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout.  Kerkering took his second loss of the season. 

Alex Verdugo had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Juan Soto had a hit and drew two walks and Judge had three hits and drew two walks.  Chisholm had three hits and five RBI, Gleyber Torres had an RBI and Ben Rice had a hit.  Anthony Volpe had two hits, Trent Grisham drew a walk and Verdugo and Volpe each hit a double.  Chisholm Jr. hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 3-16 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Volpe had a stolen base. 

Kyle Schwarber drew two walks, Trea Turner had a hit and Bryce Harper drew a walk.  Alec Bohm had a hit and an RBI, JT Realmuto had three hits and drew a walk and Johan Rojas had a hit.  Bryson Stott had a hit and drew a walk, Austin Hays had two hits and four RBI and Bohm hit a double and Hays hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-18 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Hays had a stolen base and Realmuto committed an error.  Realmuto had a passed ball. 

In the top of the first Chisholm hit an RBI groundout giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Bohm hit an RBI double tying the score at one.  In the bottom of the second Hays hit a three-run homerun to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead.  In the sixth Chisholm Jr. hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 4-2.  In the top of the seventh Chisholm Jr. hit a three-run homerun giving the Yankees a 5-4 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth a wild pitch tied the game at five.  In the top of the 11th Verdugo hit a sac fly giving the Yankees a 6-5 lead.  In the bottom of the 11th Hays hit an RBI single tying the game at six.  In the top of the 12th Torres hit a sac fly giving the Yankees a 7-6 lead and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will try to sweep the three-game series on Wednesday afternoon. 

New York Yankees power past the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 14-4.  Luis Gil started for the Yankees, and he pitched well, the bullpen closed it out with 3 2/3 of good pitching.  The offense was led by Juan Soto who had three hits and Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Ben Rice and Anthony Volpe each had two hits. 

Gil pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Gil won his 11th game of the season.  Michael Tonkin pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Yoendrys Gomez pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

Zack Wheeler started for the Phillies, and he pitched five innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Wheeler took his fifth loss of the season.  Yunior Marte pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout, Gregory Soto pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts and Garrett Stubbs pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk. 

Alex Verdugo had a hit and drew two walks, Soto had three hits and three RBI and Judge had two hits and three RBI.  Austin Wells had a hit and two RBI.  Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk, Chisolm Jr. had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Volpe had two hits and two RBI.  Soto hit a double, Wells hit a triple and Judge hit two homeruns.  Chisolm Jr. hit two homeruns and Rice and Volpe each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Chisolm Jr. was picked off and Torres committed an error.

In the first Judge hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Chisholm Jr. hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 2-0.  Rice hit a solo homerun and it was 3-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the third Turner grounded into a forceout and a run scored cutting the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the fourth Marsh hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-2.  In the top of the fifth Soto hit a two-run double pushing the Yankees lead to 5-2.  Wells hit a two-run triple and it was 7-2 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Marsh hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-3.  In the top of the seventh Judge hit a two-run homerun extending the Yankees lead to 9-3.  In the bottom of the seventh a wild pitch made it 9-4.  In the top of the eighth Volpe hit a two-run homerun making it a 11-4 game.  Soto hit an RBI double and it was 12-4.  In the ninth Chisholm Jr.  hit a two-run homerun making it 14-4 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees rally but fall short in Tampa Bay

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 5-3.  Carlos Rodon started for the Yankees and he had a terrible first inning and then settled down but it was too late.  The bullpen pitched well and DJ LeMahieu led the offense with two hits. 

Rodon pitched four innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Rodon lost his seventh game of the season.  Jake Cousins pitched two innings giving up a walk and he struck out five, Michael Tonkin pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Tommy Khanle pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Ryan Pepiot started for the Rays and he pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and seven strikeouts.  He won his fifth game of the season.  Kevin Kelly pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Colin Poche pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a  walk and a strikeout and Jason Adam pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Pete Fairbanks pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and picked up his 15th save of the season. 

Ben Rice had a hit and two RBI, Juan Soto drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit and a walk.  Alex Verdugo had a hit and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI and Anthony Volpe drew a walk.  Trent Grisham had a hit, LeMahieu had two hits and Rice hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Verdugo committed an error. 

Yander Diaz had a hit and drew a walk, Randy Arozarena had a hit and drew a walk and Amed Rosario had two hits.  Isaac Paredes had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Jose Siri had a hit and Jonny DeLuca had a hit and an RBI.  Jose Caballero drew a walk, Arozarena and DeLuca hit a double and Paredes hit a homerun.  The Rays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Arozarena had a stolen base and Caballero was caught stealing. 

In the top of the first Torres hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Arozarena hit an RBI double and Paredes hit a three-run homerun giving the Rays a 4-1 lead.  In the top of the seventh Rice hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 4-3.  In the bottom of the eight DeLuca hit an RBI double giving the Rays a cushion at 5-3 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Yankees pound the Toronto Blue Jays in a offensive explosion

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 16-5.  Marcus Stroman started for the Yankees and he pitched well but didn’t pitch deep into the game.  The bullpen pitched well and the offense was led by Aaron Judge and Jahmi Jones who each had three hits. 

Stroman pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Michael Tonkin earned his third win of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Luke Weaver pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Tim Hill pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Yusei Kikuchi started for the Blue Jays and he pitched five innings giving up four hits and four runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Kikuchi took his eight loss of the season.  Nate Pearson pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk, Genesis Cabrera pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Trevor Richards pitched an inning giving up three hits and two unearned runs.  Tim Mayza pitched giving up five hits and five runs without recording an out and Bowden Francis pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs. 

Anthony Volpe had two hits, Juan Soto had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Judge had three hits and two RBI.  J.D. Davis had a hit and an RBI, Oswaldo Cabrera had a hit and an RBI and Gleyber Torres had two hits and three RBI.  Alex Verdugo had two hits and two RBI, DJ LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jose Trevino had a hit and an RBI.  Jones had three hits and an RBI, Davis, Verdugo, LeMahieu, Cabrera and Trevino each hit a double.  Soto and Torres each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 9-12 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Bo Bichette had a hit and drew a walk, Spencer Horwitz had a hit and Vlad Guerrero Jr. had two hits and two RBI.  Justin Turner had two hits and drew two walks, George Springer had a hit and two RBI and Danny Jansen had a hit.  Isiah Kiner-Falefa had two hits and an RBI, Turner hit a double and Kiner-Falefa, Guerrero Jr. each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Kiner-Falefa committed an error and Barger had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the first Springer hit an RBI single giving the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the top of the fourth Davis hit an RBI groundout to tie the score at one.  In the bottom of the fifth Guerrero Jr. hit into a force out and a run scored giving the Jays a 2-1 lead.  Springer was hit by a pitch and it was 3-1 Jays.  In the top of the sixth Soto hit a three-run homerun giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  Davis hit an RBI double, Torres hit a two-run homerun and it was 7-3 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Kiner-Falefa hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 7-4.  In the bottom of the seventh Guerrero Jr. hit a solo homerun making it a 7-5 game.  In the top of the eighth Verdugo hit an RBI double, LeMahieu hit an RBI double and it was 9-5 Yankees.  In the top of the ninth Judge hit a two-run single pushing the lead to 11-5.  Cabrera hit an RBI double, Torres hit a sac fly and Verdugo hit an RBI single extending the lead to 14-5.  Trevino hit an RBI double and Jones hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 16-5 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday.
