New York Mets defeat the Chicago Cubs

 

The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Taijuan Walker started for the Mets and he pitched very well.  Jonathan Villar had two hits to lead the offense. 

Walker pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with 12 strikeouts.  He won his sixth game of the season.  Seth Lugo earned his first save of the season pitching two innings and giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. 

Alec Mills started for the Cubs and he pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Rex Brothers pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Keegan Thompson pitched two innings giving up a hit and two walks and he struck out three and Dan Winkler pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Villar had two hits and drew a walk, Francisco Lindor had a hit and drew two walks and Dom Smith had a hit and drew a walk.  Pete Alonso had a hit and three RBI, Billy McKinney had a hit and James McCann had a hit and drew a walk.  Luis Guillorme had a hit and drew a walk, Smith and Villar each hit a double and the Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Pillar had an outfield assist. 

Joc Pederson had a hit, Patrick Wisdom had a hit and Javier Baez had a hit and two RBI.  Wilson Contreras had two hits, Ian Happ had a hit and Eric Sogard had a hit.  Jason Heyward drew a walk, Baez hit a homerun and the Cubs were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Alcantara committed an error. 

In the third Baez hit a two-run homerun to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.   In the bottom of the third Alonso hit a two-run single to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the fifth Alonso hit a sac fly giving the Mets a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play their third and final game of the series on Wednesday night.

New York Mets shutout the Washington Nationals

 

The New York Mets defeated the Washington Nationals on Sunday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-0.  Taijuan Walker started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The bullpen also pitched well and J.D. Davis led the offense with three hits and two RBI. 

Walker pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out four and won his first game of the season.  Miguel Castro pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out three and Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning. 

Patrick Corbin started for the Nationals and he pitched four innings giving up seven hits and four runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Corbin lost his third game of the season.  Austin Voth pitched three innings giving up a hit and he struck out four and Tanner Rainey pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Pete Alonso had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Francisco Lindor had a hit and Davis had three hits and two RBI.  Michael Conforto had a hit, James McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jonathan Villar had a hit.  Albert Almora Jr. drew a walk, Conforto hit a double and Davis and Alonso each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Villar and Nimmo were caught stealing and Villar was picked off.  Conforto had an outfield assist and Walker had a pickoff. 

Josh Harrison had a hit, Yadiel Hernandez had two hits and drew two walks and Victor Robles had a hit.  Corbin drew a walk, Andrew Stevenson had a hit and Robles hit a double.  The Nationals were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Harrison was picked off and Shwarber had an outfield assist.  Corbin had a pickoff. 

In the first Davis hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth McCann hit an RBI single and it was 3-0 Mets.  In the bottom of the fifth Alonso hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 4-0 and that would be the final score.

New York Mets fall to the Chicago Cubs

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois and the final score was 3-1.  Taijuan Walker started for the Mets and he pitched ok but he was wild.  The bullpen pitched great and Dom Smith and J.D. Davis led the offense with a couple of hits each. 

Walker pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked six and struck out seven.  Walker took his first loss of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched to one batter and struck him out, Jacob Barnes pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one.  Trevor May pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jake Arrieta won his third game of the season pitching five innings and giving up three hits and a run with three walks and four strikeouts.  Rex Brothers pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Brandon Workman pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Andrew Chafin pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit.  Craig Kimbrel saved his fourth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and two walks.  He also struck out two batters. 

Francisco Lindor drew a walk, Smith had two hits and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Jeff McNeil drew a walk.  Davis had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, James McCann drew a walk and Jonathan Villar had a hit.  Luis Guillorme had a hit, Davis hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Davis committed two errors. 

Ian Happ drew two walks, Willson Contreras had an RBI and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo drew a walk.  Kris Bryant had a hit, Jason Heyward had a hit and Eric Sogard had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Arrietta drew a walk and the Cubs were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Heyward had a stolen base. 

In the bottom of the third Contreras reached on an error and a run scored to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Sogard hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  Contreras drew an RBI walk and it was 3-0 Cubs.  In the fifth Davis hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Mets walk-off the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-3 in eight innings.  The doubleheaders are still seven inning games this year and this one went extras.  Taijuan Walker started for the Mets and pitched well.  Dom Smith hit a two-run homerun, no Mets had more then a hit in the game. 

Walker pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Miguel Castro pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Trevor May pitched an inning giving up a hit and a unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts.  May earned his first win of the season. 

Chase Anderson started for the Phillies and he pitched four innings giving up three hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  JoJo Romero pitched an inning with a walk, Jose Alvarado pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Connor Brogdon pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts.  Hector Neris pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with one being earned.  He walked one and took his first loss and first blown save. 

Brandon Nimmo drew two walks, Francisco Lindor drew a walk and Smith had a hit and two RBI.  Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI, Jeff McNeil had a hit and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  James McCann had a hit, Luis Guillorme had a hit and drew two walks and Jonathan Villar had a hit and an RBI.  Smith hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  McCann had a passed ball. 

Rhys Hoskins drew a walk, Bryce Harper had a hit and drew a walk and Alec Bohm had a hit and drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had two hits and an RBI, Jean Segura had two hits and an RBI and Andrew Knapp had an RBI.  Roman Quinn drew a walk, Brad Miller drew a walk and Bohm hit a double.  The Phillies were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gregorius had a stolen base and Quinn was caught stealing. 

In the bottom of the first Smith hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the second Knapp hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the sixth Segura hit an RBI single and in the eighth Gregorius hit an RBI single to give the Phillies a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Alonso hit an RBI single to tie the score at three and Villar hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Mets a 4-3 win.

New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals play to a tie in finale of spring

 

The New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals played to a 3-3 tie in the final spring game.  The game took place at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, Florida.  Taijuan Walker started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Pete Alonso hit a two-run double. 

Walker pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Miguel Castro pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Robert Gsellman pitched an inning giving up a hit and Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Hildenberger pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. 

Adam Wainwright pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Jesus Cruz pitched to one batter and got him out, Carlos Martinez pitched three innings giving up a walk and he struck out two and Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Ryan Helsley pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit, Francisco Lindor had a hit and Luis Guillorme had a hit and drew a walk.  Mallex Smith had a hit and an RBI, Alonso had a hit and two RBI and J.D. Davis drew a walk.  Pete Crow-Armstrong had a hit, Lindor, Alonso, Guillorme and Smith each hit a double and the Mets were 2-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Tommy Edman had a hit, Nolan Arenado had a hit and an RBI and Edmundo Sosa had two hits and an RBI.  Justin Williams drew a walk, Matt Carpenter had a hit and an RBI and Arenado and Sosa each hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base. 

In the first Alonso hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Arenado hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the third Carpenter hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the eighth Smith hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 3-2 lead and in the bottom of the ninth Sosa hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will head to Washington D.C. to begin the season on Thursday night against the Washington Nationals.

New York Mets outslug the St. Louis Cardinals

 

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday.  The game took place at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 8-5.  Taijuan Walker started for the Mets and he pitched very well.  Francisco Lindor and Tomas Nido led the offensive charge.  Lindor had two hits and four RBI and Nido had three hits and an RBI. 

Walker pitched four innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.  Walker picked up his first win of the spring.  Jerry Blevins pitched a perfect inning, Corey Oswalt pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up five hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout and Trevor Hildenberger pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Daniel Zamora pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and he earned his second save of the spring. 

Carlos Martinez started for the Cardinals and he didn’t pitch very well.  He pitched three innings giving up five hits and five runs with two walks and a strikeout.  He took his second loss of the spring.   Evan Kruczynski pitched to one batter and got him out, Thomas Parsons pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit.  Giovanny Gallegos pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two, Matthew Liberatore pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and three strikeouts.  Jesus Cruz pitched to one batter and struck him out. 

Brandon Nimmo drew two walks, Lindor had two hits and four RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit and drew a walk.  Johneshwy Fargas had a hit, Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI and Patrick Mazeika had a hit and drew a walk.  J.D. Davis had a hit, Nido three hits and an RBI and Brandon Drury an RBI.  Alonso and Nido each hit a double and Fargas hit a triple.  Nido and Lindor each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Lindor was caught stealing. 

Matt Carpenter drew a walk, Dylan Carlson had a hit and Evan Mendoza had a hit and an RBI.  Delvin Perez had a hit, Edmundo Sosa had a hit and Jose Rondon drew a walk.  John Nogowski had a hit and drew a walk, Max Moroff had a hit and two RBI and Scott Hurst had a hit and two RBI.  Mendoza and Perez each hit a double and Moroff and Hurst each hit a homerun.  The Cardinals were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Mendoza committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Alonso hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nido hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Drury reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored extending the Mets lead to 3-0.  Lindor hit a grand-slam and it was 7-0 Mets.  In the sixth Moroff hit a two-run homerun cutting the lead to 7-2.  Mendoza hit an RBI double and it was a 7-3 game.  In the eighth Hurst hit a two-run homerun to make it 7-5.  In the bottom of the eighth Tovar reached on a fielder’s choice pushing the lead to 8-5 and that was the final score. 

The Mets will be off on Saturday and take on the Nationals in West Palm Beach on Sunday.
