Recap of the day in Mets Camp

Jenrry Mejia threw live batting practice today. He was wild but Jerry Manuel was impressed with the natural cut on his fastball. Jon Niese and R.A. Dickey also threw batting practice and according to SNY producer Matt Dunn, Niese was happy to just be throwing again. The team had a media training this morning and Darryl Strawberry, John Franco and Mookie Wilson all spoke during the meeting. The Mets announced their will be a interleague game on Monday and Nelson Figueroa will open the grapefruit league on Tuesday. Arturo Lopez has cleared waivers and will return to camp as a non roster invitee. Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News is reporting the Mets have made an offer to lefty reliever Joe Beimel. Top prospect Ike Davis is drawing a lot of buzz around camp. Jerry Manuel said today he envisions a opening day lineup of Angel Pagan, Luis Castillo,Jose Reyes,Jason Bay, David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Jeff Francouer and Rod Barajas. He said he could flip flop Bay and Wright. He said he thinks Ike Davis would best be served down in the minors. I agree with this you don't want to rush the kid, he is the first baseman of the future, you have to be patient with him and let him develop. He also said he thought Luis Castillo had a good year last year despite the dropped pop up agains the Yankees and expects him to be good this year. Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees

The New York Yankees begin a 3 game series with the Blue Jays at Yankee stadium tonight at 7:00PM on the YES network. Here are a few notes from the Lohud Yankees Blog and the lineup. The pitching staff has a 2.50 era during the 7 game winning streak allowing 56 runs and 20 hits over 69 innings. They have thrown 62 percent of their pitches for strikes and held opponents to a 224 batting average. The Yankees are 7-2 against Toronto this season. MO has not allowed a run since June 12th a stretch of 21 1/3 innings. His era now stands at 1.88. He has allowed 6 hits and 3 walks in his last 5 1/3 innings though. A-rod hit his 574th homerun last night putting him at 9th all time, Mark McGwire is up next at 583 homeruns. The Yankees at 27 games over 500 are at their highest point since the end of the 2006 season when they finished 97-65. Cody Ransom cleared waivers and accepted a assignment to Scranton, this is nice he is a good guy that had a horrible tragedy in college. Yankees Lineup: Jeter(SS) Swisher(RF) Tex(1B) A-rod(3B) Posada(DH) Cano(2B) Hairston(LF) Cabrera(CF) Molina(C)

Some Yankees News

Brian Bruney will be activated tomorrow and go back to his eighth inning role. We will see what happens when he comes back, Edwar Ramirez, Jon Albaladejo and Alfredo Aceves have options left, my guess would be Edwar unless of course they get rid of Angel Berroa. Bruney said he got hurt during that game with Posada having that homerun review that took 8 1/2 minutes he said he was warming up and kept doing so because he didn't know how long it would take. He talked to the union about the incident but was told it is a central office that does the reviewing not the umpires on field. He said 8 1/2 minutes is a long time for someone to be throwing is obviously very upset about that incident. Chien-Ming Wang will be at the Stadium tomorrow to throw a bullpen in front of Yankees personnel. Girardi was non commital about when he might return but the Yankees would like to see his sinker be a little sharper then it was in his last outing, the velocity was down a little but Girardi said he is more concerned with the quality of his sinker. I am going to assume Phil Hughes will go down and Wang will slot in at the end of the week but what happens if Wang still isn't good so maybe they will keep Hughes around for the time being. Brett Gardner is day to day with a contusion of his right rotator cuff, he said he didn't feel anything after the collision with Joe Mauer yesterday but woke up with pain. Steven Jackson was claimed off of waivers by the Pirates
