The New York Mets will take on the Houston Astros tonight at Citi Field. It is cold and rainy but they should be able to get the game in tonight. The Mets today decided they had enough with the Brad Emaus experiment at second base and it looks like they will just return him to Toronto. He was acquired in the Rule V Draft from them. They will platoon Daniel Murphy and Justin Turner there for now. Here is the lineup for the Mets.
It will be Jon Niese vs. Wandy Rodriguez.
Mets Lineup:Reyes, Thole, Wright, Beltran, Davis, Pagan, Hairston, Turners, Niese.
Hairston is a 545 lifetime hitter against Rodriguez with two homers and three RBI.
The game will be at 7:05PM on SNY. The Mets need to win these two series against the Astros and Diamondbacks who aren't good teams. I know the Mets don't look like they are either right now but they need to get closer to being that by beating these teams at home.

Mets lose in more then one way
The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals this afternoon by the score of 9-4. Oliver Perez got the start and was dreadful again. He pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 7 runs with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. He allowed 3 homeruns in the game. Elmer Dessens pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings giving up 2 hits. Sean Green pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up a hit and he had a strikeout. Kiko Calero pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits and a run, he did have 2 strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez pitched a scoreless inning giving up a hit and he had a strikeout.
Daniel Murphy was 2-2 with a walk. He left the game with a knee injury suffered during a rundown. Jason Bay hit his 3rd homerun of the spring although he played bad in the field. Rod Barajas, Omir Santos and Frank Catalanotto each had a hit.
Alex Cora left the game after getting hit by a pitch. I don't have any injury updates yet. According to SNY the Mets have told Pat Misch that he will not be on the roster. Mike Jacobs will play in Murphys spot tomorrow against the Marlins.
The Mets have claimed Manny Acosta from the Braves this afternoon. He is 5-7 in his career with a 3.55 era. I am guessing they will be looking at him for the 8th inning.
Carlos Beltran took indoor batting today in Port St. Lucie. The Mets are still hopeful he will be back by mid may but there hasn't bee a definitive timetable yet.

New York Mets drop close one to Cardinals
The New York Mets lost to the St. Louis Cardinals today in Jupiter by the score of 2-1. The encouraging thing for the Mets about this game was the way John Maine pitched. He started and pitched 5 innings giving up 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and he also had a strikeout. This is the best he has pitched all spring. Fernando Nieve pitched a scoreless inning giving up a hit. Kiko Calero pitched a perfect inning with 2 strikeouts. He hasn't given up a run all spring and may be the 8th inning guy. I know a lot of people want Jenrry Mejia to be that guy but Jerry Manuel has said if he makes the team he wants to break him in slow and I agree with that. I personally wouldn't bring him up just yet but I think the Mets will bring him North. Elmer Dessens pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk. Pedro Feliciano faced one batter and got him out.
The offense only managed 4 hits with 2 of them by Fernando Tatis. Frank Catalanotto had a hit, rbi and walk and Jordany Valdespin had the other hit. I never heard of him, he must be up from minor league camp. The Mets will be in Jupiter again tomorrow to take on the Florida Marlins. The game is at 1:00PM. If you check out Matthew Cerrones Metsblog.com you can see an exclusive interview Jose Reyes has with SNY. It will be on Sportsnight.

Jose Reyes returns to Camp and Mets win game
I apologize I have been saying Tradition Field, the Mets changed the name the other day. The Mets spring training home is now known as Digital Domain Park. The Mets defeated the Houston Astros there this afternoon by the score of 5-2. Johan Santana made the start and pitched pretty well, he seemed to run out of steam at the end out his outing. He pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 8 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. Jon Niese and Elmer Dessens combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Francisco Rodriguez struck out the side for the save in the ninth inning.
Daniel Murphy who has struggled this spring had a good day. He was 2-4 with a 2 run homerun. Angel Pagan was 1-4 and Fernando Tatis was 1-1 with a rbi. David Wright was 1-3, Rod Barajas was 1-2 and Frank Catalanotto was 1-1. The Mets will travel to Jupiter tomorrow to take on the St. Louis Cardinals.
Here is the news from today, it is basically about J0se Reyes. According to SNY producer Matt Dunn Jose Reyes said he was told by doctors he had a virus which caused the elevated thyroid levels. He is on diet restrictions now such as no seafood. He said he is taking things one day at a time but will work as hard as he can to be ready as soon as possible. He said he needs to see how his legs respond though. He was asked how it felt to be back and he said that he feels better then he thought he would after spending 20 days laying on the couch watching TV. He said he was disappointed when he heard the news about his thyroid and wanted to be with his teammates but this was about his life.
He said he can't wait to get into a game, that he is excited and is going to be like a little kid. He said he expects to be a little sore tomorrow but felt good going through the workouts today. He fielded grounders, ran, hit and threw to first base. Reyes said while home he spent time with his family, watched a lot of TV including the Mets games that were on TV.
I think the Mets need to take it slow with him but this is great news. It seems like he will be ready for opening day and if not it won't be too long after that. The Mets just having him back around feel better about themselves and that is a good thing.

Mets lose to Nats
The New York Mets lost to the Washington Nationals this afternoon by the score of 7-5. Mike Pelfrey started for the Mets and wasn't too good. He pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up 7 hits, 6 runs, 5 of them were earned. He also had 1 walk and 3 strikeouts, he gave up 4 homeruns. Jenrry Mejia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up 1 hit, 0 runs and 1 walk. Ryota Igarashi pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits, 1 run and 2 walks. Bobby Parnell pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits, 0 runs and 0 walks or strikeouts.
Chris Carter led the offense again going 3-5, Ruben Tejada and Jeff Francouer each had a hit. Russ Adams had a hit and Henry Blanco had 2 hits and a rbi. The Mets will take on the Braves at Tradition Field tomorrow at 1:10PM, the game is on SNY and ESPN.
The buzz today on talk radio here in NY was that Daniel Murphy has won the job at first base and Mike Jacobs feels he is the better player. Jacobs has better numbers in the spring and more experience but the Mets appear committed to having Murphy start.

New York Mets Recap and some Notes
The New York Mets lost to the Minnesota Twins today by the score of 7-3. Johan Santana started for the Mets and he wasn't good over 3 1/3 innings. He gave up 5 runs and 9 hits. He was pitching so well before this so I wouldn't get too crazy over it. Sean Green pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits and 1 run. Bobby Parnell pitched 2 innings giving up a hit but 0 runs. He did have a strikeout. Pat Misch pitched 2 scoreless, hitless innings. He did give up a walk but also had 2 strikeouts. Jenrry Mejia gave up a hit and run in 1 inning, he did work out of a jam though. I think it is good for him to struggle a little and then see how he bounces back from it.
Jason Bay was 2-2 raising his spring average to 357, Ruben Tejada was 2-5 with 2 doubles. Daniel Murphy and Jeff Francoeur were 0-7 combined though and left 11 men on base. Fernando Martinez had a hit, Russ Adams had a hit and rbi. Omir Santos had a hit, rbi and walk and Sean Riggans had a hit.
Pat Misch has a 9 inning scoreless streak going. The Mets play the Cardinals in Jupiter tomorrow at 1:05PM. Kevin Burkhardt of SNY said today during the telecast according to Matthew Cerrone that Kelvim Escobar won't start throwing until April after the Mets break camp. You can check out Matthews blog at http://metsblog.com It is a great Mets blog, he does a great job, there is lots of audio and video and everything you need to know about the Mets.

New York Mets Recap and Postgame Notes
The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals at Tradition Field by the score of 6-5 today. The starting pitcher was Fernando Nieve and he pitched 3 innings giving up 5 hits and 2 runs. He also walked 1 and didn't strike out a batter. The offensive star was Angel Pagan who hit a 2 run walkoff homerun for the victory. Here is how the other players performed.
Pitching wise Jon Niese was the worst of who pitched today. His line was: 3 innings giving up 4 hits and 3 runs, only 2 were earned and he did strike out a couple. Sean Green, Pat Misch and Francisco Rodriguez all pitched scoreless innings. K-rod had a perfect inning with a strikeout in his debut. Grapefruit League Game 3-Cardinals at Mets
The New York Mets will take on the St. Louis Cardinals from Tradition Field at 1:10PM today. Jose Reyes was scratched from the lineup because they saw something they didn't like in a follow up to his physical. He said it is nothing serious and I hear that it has nothing to do with his hamstring. This is the Mets though and anything like this has to be a concern but hopefully it is not big deal and he will be back to action soon. R.A. Dickey will get the start for the Mets and Tobi Stoner, Clint Everts,Sean Green and Jack Egbert will also pitch. Here is the starting lineup for the Mets and a couple of notes.
New York Mets:
Gary Matthews Jr.(CF)
Luis Castillo(2B)
David Wright(3B)
Jason Bay(LF)
Daniel Murphy(1B)
Jeff Francoeur(RF)
Fernando Tatis(DH)
Henry Blanco(C)
Ruben Tejada(SS)
This will be Jason Bays debut with the Mets, the game will also be televised on SNY. Takahashi has returned to the team after getting his visa issues solved. Francisco Rodriguez is still dealing with pink eye and not with the team. It is amazing to me that even something like pink eye turns into a big thing with the Mets. I meant to mention this the other day but WFAN Mets beat reporter Ed Coleman said on one of the shows that he first saw it and said you have pinkeye and K-rod said they told me I don't have that so don't worry about it. The Mets medical staff can't even diagnos pink eye right. I hope they get this mess solved because if this turns bad like last year, there will have to be major changes made all the way around.

Recap of the day in Mets Camp
Jenrry Mejia threw live batting practice today. He was wild but Jerry Manuel was impressed with the natural cut on his fastball.
Jon Niese and R.A. Dickey also threw batting practice and according to SNY producer Matt Dunn, Niese was happy to just be throwing again. The team had a media training this morning and Darryl Strawberry, John Franco and Mookie Wilson all spoke during the meeting.
The Mets announced their will be a interleague game on Monday and Nelson Figueroa will open the grapefruit league on Tuesday.
Arturo Lopez has cleared waivers and will return to camp as a non roster invitee. Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News is reporting the Mets have made an offer to lefty reliever Joe Beimel. Top prospect Ike Davis is drawing a lot of buzz around camp.
Jerry Manuel said today he envisions a opening day lineup of Angel Pagan, Luis Castillo,Jose Reyes,Jason Bay, David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Jeff Francouer and Rod Barajas. He said he could flip flop Bay and Wright. He said he thinks Ike Davis would best be served down in the minors. I agree with this you don't want to rush the kid, he is the first baseman of the future, you have to be patient with him and let him develop. He also said he thought Luis Castillo had a good year last year despite the dropped pop up agains the Yankees and expects him to be good this year.
