New York Mets defeat the Miami Marlins


The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida and the final score was 8-2.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Phillip Evans and Luis Guillorme each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Matz pitched two innings giving up three hits and no runs with no walks and a strikeout.  Marcos Molina pitched a perfect inning, David Roseboom pitched an inning with two strikeouts and Erik Goeddel pitched an inning with a hit and he struck out one.  Rafael Montero pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Chasen Bradford pitched an inning giving up a walk and he got the win and Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Ben Rowen pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Juan Lagares had a hit, Champ Stuart had a hit and an RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit.  Travis Taijeron had a hit, Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and an RBI and Evans had two hits and an RBI.  Dominic Smith had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and L.J. Mazzilli had a hit and two RBI.  Guillorme had two hits and drew a walk, Patrick Biondi drew a walk and Wuilmer Becerra had a hit and drew a walk.  Gene Cone had an RBI and drew two walks, Becerra, Taijeron and Evans each hit a double.  d’Arnaud and Mazzilli each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 5-16 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Lagares, Conforto and Becerra each had a stolen base.  Guillorme and Smith each committed an error. 

In the fourth d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the eighth Evans hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.  Smith hit an RBI single to make it 3-1, Mazzilli hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 5-1.  Stuart hit an RBI single still in the eighth to make it a 6-1 game.  A passed ball pushed the Mets lead to 7-1.  In the bottom of the eighth Moises Sierra hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 7-2 and in the ninth Cone drew an RBI walk to make it an 8-2 game which would be the final score.   

New York Yankees get trounced by the Pittsburgh Pirates


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday afternoon.  The game took place at LeCom Park in Bradenton, Florida and the final score was 13-1.  Bryan Mitchell made the start for the Yankees and didn’t pitch too well.  The Yankees offense only managed five hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Mitchell pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  He took the loss.  J.P. Feyereisen pitched 2/3 of an inning walking two and striking out one, Jordan Montgomery pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and Jon Niese pitched a perfect inning.  Evan Rutckyj pitched without recording an out and he gave up three hits and six runs with four of them being earned and he walked two.  J.R. Graham pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts and Joe Mantiply pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had an RBI, Tyler Wade had a hit and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Aaron Judge had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk and Austin Romine had a hit.  Hicks hit a double and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Andujar committed two errors. 

In the second Austin Meadows hit a two-run double to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.  Barrett Barnes hit an RBI ground out and it was now 3-0 Pirates.  In the third Ellsbury reached on an error and a run scored to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the third Jordy Mercer hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Erich Weiss hit an RBI double, Elias Diaz hit an RBI double and it was 6-1 Pirates.  In the seventh Eury Perez reached on a force attempt error and a run scored to make it a 7-1 game.  Kevin Newman drew an RBI walk, Casey Hughston hit a three-run double and Joey Terdoslavich hit an RBI double and it was 12-1 Pirates.  Weiss hit an RBI single to finish the scoring at 13-1. 

The New York Mets lose a slugfest to the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 14-11.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well.  Yoenis Cespedes had a couple of hits and Travis Taijeron had four hits. 

Harvey pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and four runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Addison Reed pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and three runs with a strikeout, Seth Lugo pitched two innings giving up five hits and four runs with three of them being earned and he struck out two and Adam Wilk pitched two innings giving up four hits and two runs with a couple of strikeouts.  Tom Gorzelanny pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Logan Taylor pitched an inning with two walks and he struck out one. 

Champ Stuart drew a walk, Cespedes had two hits and an RBI and Taijeron had four hits.  Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk, Patrick Biondi had a hit and drew a walk and Neil Walker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Matt Reynolds drew two walks, T.J. Rivera had a hit and three RBI and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and an RBI.  Wuilmer Becerra had a hit and an RBI, Phillip Evans had a hit and Luis Guillorme had a hit and three RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit and drew a walk, Tomas Nido had a hit and d

Arnaud, Taijeron and Biondi each hit a double.  Cespedes and Guillorme each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Bruce was caught stealing and Evans and Reynolds committed an error. 

In the first Cespedes hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Jose Martinez hit a three-run homerun to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead.  Aledmys Diaz hit an RBI single to push the Cardinals lead to 4-1.  In the third Harrison Bader hit a three run triple to make it a 7-1 lead.  In the fourth Rivera hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 7-2, d’Arnaud hit an RBI double to make it 7-3.  In the fifth Greg Garcia hit an RBI single and Bader hit an RBI single and it was 9-3 Cardinals.  Dexter Fowler hit a two-run double to make it 11-3 Cardinals.  In the fifth Walker drew an RBI walk to cut the lead to 11-4.  In the sixth Patrick Wisdom hit a solo homerun to make it a 12-4 lead for the Cardinals.  Garcia hit an RBI double to push it to 13-4.  In the seventh Rivera hit an RBI single and Becerra hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 13-7.  Guillorme hit a three-run homerun and it was a 13-10 game.  In the eighth Anthony Garcia hit a solo homerun to make it a 14-10 game and in the ninth Taijeron hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 14-11 which would be the final score. 

The New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aroldis Chapman and Tyler Clippard also pitched well.  Matt Holliday and Pete Kozma each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched three innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked none and struck out four.  Tommy Layne pitched an inning giving up a hit, Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Chance Adams pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout.  Adams got the win and Luis Cessa the save as he pitched two innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with two strikeouts. 

Donovan Solano drew a walk, Holliday had two hits and Chris Carter had a hit.  Gary Sanchez had a hit, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Clint Frazier had a hit.  Kozma had two hits and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Holliday hit two doubles and Torres a triple.  The Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Kozma and Fowler each committed an error.
 
In the fourth A wild pitch scored a run to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Barrett Barnes hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the seventh a wild pitch scored another run and gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Kozma hit an RBI single in the eighth and it was 3-1 Yankees.  In the ninth Christian Kelley hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 3-2 and that was the final score.

New York Mets defeat the Houston Astros


The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida and the final score was 3-1.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Brandon Nimmo, Lucas Duda and T.J. Rivera each led the offense with two hits each. 

deGrom pitched two innings giving up no hits or runs and he struck out three.  Conlon pitched two innings walking two, Taylor earned the win pitching an inning and giving up two hits.  Rowen pitched an inning with a strikeout, Sean Gilmartin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Bradford pitched a perfect inning.  Sewald pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Nimmo had two hits, Duda had two hits and an RBI and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit.  Rivera had two hits, Gavin Cecchini had a hit and two RBI and Matt Reynolds drew a walk.  Rivera hit two doubles, Duda hit two doubles and Nimmo and Cecchini each hit a double.  The Mets were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Rivera was caught stealing. 
In the sixth Duda hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead  In the seventh Cecchini hit a two-run double to stretch the lead to 3-0.  In the seventh Carlos Beltran hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score
