New York Mets and Detroit Tigers play to a tie


The New York Mets tied with the Detroit Tigers on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie and the final score was 5-5.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and pitched great.  Asdrubal Cabrera and Yoenis Cespedes each had two hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched four innings giving up two hits and no runs with four strikeouts.  Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning and had a strikeout, Ben Rowen pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Rafael Montero pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts.  Erik Goeddel pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout, Chasen Bradford pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a couple of strikeouts and Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Luis Guillorme had a hit, Cabrera had two hits and Cespedes had two hits and two RBI.  Kevin Kaczmarski had a hit, Wuilmer Becerra had a hit and Tomas Nido had a hit.  Champ Stuart had a hit and two RBI and John Mora had a hit and an RBI.  Becerra hit a double and Mora a triple.  Stuart and Cespedes each hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Cabrera was caught stealing and Guillorme committed an error.  Nido had a pickoff. 

In the third Stuart hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the third Cespedes hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 4-0.  In the sixth Nicholas Castellanos hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the seventh Dominic Ficociello hit a solo homerun and it was 4-2.  A wild pitch cut the lead to 4-3 still in the seventh.  In the eighth Grayson Greiner hit an RBI double and the game was tied at four.  In the ninth Jacoby Jones hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Mora hit an RBI triple to tie the game at five and that was how it would end.  The teams did not play extra innings.   

New York Yankees defeat the Atlanta Braves


The New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Champion Stadium in Orlando, Florida and the final score was 8-7.  Michael Pineda started and after a rough start pitched well.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and two steals to lead the offense. 

Pineda pitched three innings giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout.  Ben Heller pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Chasen Shreve picked up the win pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and three runs with two walks.  Joe Mantiply pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Jason Gurka earned the save pitching an inning and giving up a hit and two runs with a walk. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Dustin Fowler had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Ellsbury had three hits.  Francisco Diaz had a hit and two RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Clint Frazier had an RBI.  Wilken Castillo drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Ji-Man Choi  had a hit.  Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI, Kyle Higashioka drew a walk and Pete Kozma drew a walk.  Tyler Wade had two hits, Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI and Ruben Tejada had two hits and an RBI.  Torres hit a double, Hicks and Fowler hit a triple and Gardner hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 4-18 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Ellsbury had two stolen bases. 

In the first Gardner hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Johan Camargo hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Matt Kemp hit an RBI double to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Romine hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  Tejada hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead and Fowler drew an RBI walk to extend the lead to 4-2.  Diaz hit a two run single still in the sixth to push the lead to 6-2.  Frazier hit an RBI ground out and it was 7-2 still in the sixth.  In the bottom of the sixth Matt Tuiasosopo hit a three-run homerun to cut the lead to 7-5.  In the seventh Torres hit an RBI double and it was 8-5 Yankees.  In the ninth Tuiasosopo hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 8-7 but that would be the final score.   

The New York Mets defeat the Boston Red Sox


The New York Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at First Data Field in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 8-7.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched well.  Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Syndergaard pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and a strikeout.  P.J. Conlon pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with two walks, Adam Wilk won the game pitching an inning and giving up a walk and Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Tom Gorzelanny pitched an inning with a couple of strikeouts and Corey Taylor pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and he earned the save. 

Granderson had two hits, Yoenis Cespedes drew two walks and Neil Walker had a hit and three RBI with a walk.  Luis Carpio had a hit, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and Kevin Kaczmarski had a hit.  Bruce had two hits and three RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and drew a walk.  Amed Rosario had a hit, L.J. Mazzilli had a hit and David Thompson had a hit.  Mazzilli, Duda, Granderson, Bruce, d’Arnaud and Walker each hit a double.  Bruce hit a homerun and the Mets were 5-17 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Walker was caught stealing, d’Arnaud committed an error. 

In the first a run scored on a runner being caught stealing at second.  In the fourth Rusney Castillo hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Bryce Bentz hit an RBI ground out to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  Another run scored on a steal and a throwing error to push the lead to 3-1 still in the fourth.  Marco Hernandez hit an RBI double to make it a 4-1 game.  In the bottom of the fourth Bruce hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.  A ground ball double play scored another run to tie the game at four.  In the fifth Bruce hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 5-4 lead.  Walker hit a three run double in the sixth to push the Mets lead to 8-4.  In the seventh Allen Craig hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 8-6 and in the ninth Matt Dominguez hit an RBI single to make it an 8-7 game which would be the final score. 

New York Mets were defeated by the Houston Astros


The New York Mets were defeated by the Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in Florida and the final score was 12-2.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched ok but not great.  The offense had six hits but no one had more than a hit.   

Gsellman pitched two innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and a strikeout.  Gsellman took the loss.  Josh Edgin pitched an inning with a strikeout, Logan Taylor pitched an inning giving up three hits and five runs with three of them being earned and he walked two and struck out one.  Kevin McGowan pitched a perfect inning, Sean Gilmartin pitched two innings giving up five hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts and David Roseboom pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Juan Lagares had an RBI, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Wilmer Flores had a hit.  Blake Tiberi had a hit, Phillip Evans had a hit and Travis Taijeron had a hit and drew a walk.  Tomas Nido had a hit, Tiberi hit a double and Cabrera hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Evans committed an error, Nido had a passed ball and Egin had a pickoff. 

In the first Yulieski Gurriel hit a two-run double to give the Astros a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Cabrera hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth J.D. Davis drew an RBI walk to make it 3-1.  A passed ball made it 4-1 still in the fourth and Jake Marisnick hit a two-run single to make it 6-1.  George Springer hit a sac fly to push the lead to 7-1 still in the fourth.  In the fifth Lagares hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 7-2.  In the seventh Teoscar Hernandez hit a solo homerun to make it an 8-2 game.  Colin Moran hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 9-2.  Tyler White hit an RBI single to give Houston a 10-2 lead in the seventh and in the eighth A.J. Reed hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 12-2 which was the final score. 

New York Yankees defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in extra innings


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 7-6 in ten innings.  CC Sabathia made his first start of the spring and he pitched well, Adam Warren struggled a bit.  Ronald Torreyes, Dustin Fowler and Tyler Wade each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched two innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out two.  Warren pitched three innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk, Ben Heller pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Domingo German pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Chasen Shreve pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with no walks and two strikeouts, Jason Gurka pitched an inning with a strikeout and Brady Lail won the game pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two unearned runs with a strikeout. 

Torreyes had two hits and an RBI, Rob Refsnyder had a hit and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit and two RBI, Matt Holliday had a hit and Greg Bird had a hit.  Chris Carter had a hit and an RBI, Billy McKinney had a hit and Ruben Tejada had an RBI.  Pete Kozma drew a walk, Miguel Andujar had a hit and Rashad Crawford had a hit and an RBI.  Fowler had two hits, Wade had two hits and an RBI and Sanchez, Wade and Crawford each hit a double.  Higashioka hit a homerun and the Yankees were 5-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Diaz committed two errors. 

In the first Carter hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Torreyes hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.  In the fifth Willy Adames hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  Corey Dickerson hit a solo homerun still in the fifth to tie the game at two and in the sixth Adames hit a sac fly to give the Rays a 3-2 lead.  In the seventh Higashioka hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  In the eighth Ryan Brett hit a solo homerun to tie the game at four.  In the tenth Joe McCarthy reached on a fielding error to give the Rays a 5-4 lead and Ryan Brett hit a sac fly to make it 6-4.  In the bottom of the tenth Tejada hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 6-5, Crawford hit an RBI-double to tie the game at six and Wade hit an RBI single to give the Yankees the 7-6 walk-off victory.
