New York Yankees end three-game skid with win in Philly


The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 4-2.  Jonathan Loaisiga started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Loaisiga won his second game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up one hit and no runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and three strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman earned his 23rd save of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts. 

Vince Velasquez pitched six innings giving up three hits and two runs with four walks and seven strikeouts and lost his eighth game of the season.  Hector Neris pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Adam Morgan pitched giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and didn’t record an out Yacksel Rios pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Austin Davis pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and drew two walks.  Stanton had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Greg Bird drew a walk and Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI.  Torres hit a double and Judge hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Odubel Herrera drew a walk, Carlos Santana drew two walks and Scott Kingery had a hit and an RBI.  Maikel Franco had a hit and an RBI and Jorge Alfaro had a hit.  Aaron Altherr drew a walk, Jesmuel Valentin drew a walk and Franco hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Williams and Kingery each had a stolen base. 

In the second Torres hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Judge hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Kingery hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the eighth Stanton hit a two-run single to extend the lead to 4-1 and in the ninth Franco hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night. 

New York Yankees are swept in Tampa Bay by the Rays


The Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 7-6.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well.  The bullpen pitched well and Giancarlo Stanton led the offense with five hits. 

German pitched three innings giving up nine hits and six runs with no walks and two strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and a walk with two strikeouts, Jonathan Holder pitched 2 1/3 innings striking out two and David Robertson pitched an inning with a walk.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, Chad Green pitched two innings giving up a hit and he had four strikeouts and Chasen Shreve lost his second game of the season giving up a hit and a run. 

Matt Andriese pitched three innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Jose Alvarado pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a run and a walk with two strikeouts, Diego Castillo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Vidal Nuno pitched four innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and four strikeouts.  Sergio Romo pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Jonny Venters pitched to one batter and gave up a hit and Ryan Yarbrough pitched an inning giving up a walk and picking up his seventh win of the season. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and drew a walk, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Stanton had five hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Aaron Hicks drew a walk.  Miguel Andujar had a hit and three RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Stanton hit two doubles, Gregorius and Gardner each hit a double.  Andujar and Stanton each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Kevin Kiermaier had a hit, Matt Duffy had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Jake Bauers had two hits and an RBI.  Carlos Gomez had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Mallex Smith had a hit and Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit and an RBI.  Jesus Sucre had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Willy Adames drew a walk and Duffy, Gomez and Sucre each hit a double.  Kiermaier and Bauers each hit a triple and Hechavarria and Bauers each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Kiermaier, Smith and Adames each had a stolen base. 

In the first Duffy hit an RBI double to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  Gomez hit an RBI double and it was 2-0 Rays.  In the second Andujar hit a three-run homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the second Hechavarria hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the third Gomez hit an RBI single, Sucre hit a two-run double and it was 6-3 Rays.  In the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI double and Stanton hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 6-5.  In the eighth Stanton hit a solo homerun to tie the game at six.  In the 12th Bauers hit a solo homerun to win the game 7-6 for the Rays. 

The Yankees were swept by the Rays in the three-game series and it was the first three-game losing streak of the year for the Rays.

New York Yankees are shutout by the Tampa Bay RaysNew


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 4-0.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and he got off to a rough start but then settled down.  The Yankees offense didn’t do anything at all. 

Gray pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and seven strikeouts and lost his fifth game of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two walks with a strikeout and Chad Green pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two. 

Wilmer Font pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Font earned his first win of the season.  Jonny Venters pitched to one batter and gave up a hit, Ryne Stanek pitched 1 1/3 innings with a walk and a strikeout and Chaz Roe pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Sergio Romo pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Aaron Judge drew a walk, Didi Gregorius had two hits and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit.  Greg Bird drew a walk, Austin Romine had a hit and Stanton and Romine each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Gregorius committed an error. 

Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and drew a walk, Matt Duffy had a hit and drew a walk and Jake Bauers had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Johnny Field had a hit, CJ Cron had a hit and Daniel Robertson had a hit and an RBI.  Mallex Smith had a hit and Willy Adames had two hits and two RBI, Bauers, Cron, Robertson and Smith each hit a double.  Adames hit a homerun and the Rays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ramos had a passed ball. 

In the first Bauers hit an RBI double to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the second the lead was pushed to 2-0 on a Robertson RBI double and Adames hit an RBI single to make it 3-0.  In the seventh Adames hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-0 which would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of their series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees will try and avoid the sweep and their first three-game losing streak of the season.    


New York Yankees lose a close one to the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place in St Petersburg, Florida and the final score was 2-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched pretty well.  The offense couldn’t get anything going, they only had five hits. 

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and two runs with only one being earned.  He walked one and struck out four and lost his third game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Luis Cessa pitched two innings with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Ryne Stanek pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Ryan Yarbrough pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up a hit and three walks with four strikeouts and won his sixth game of the season, Diego Castillo pitched 1 2/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts and Chaz Roe pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk.  Jose Alvarado pitched 1 1/3 innings and Sergio Romo saved his fifth game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit.

In the fourth Adames hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Cron hit a sac fly to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Judge hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1 but that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon. 




New York Mets lose to the Colorado Rockies again


The New York Mets were defeated by the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado and the final score was 6-4.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well.  Todd Frazier, Michael Conforto, Kevin Plawecki and Dominic Smith each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Matz lost his fifth game of the season pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits and five runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Tim Peterson pitched 1 1/3 perfect with two strikeouts, Paul Sewald pitched giving up a hit, run and a walk without recording an out and Jerry Blevins pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one.  Chris Flexen pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Kyle Freeland pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts and won his seventh game of the season.  Jeff Hoffman pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits, Chris Rusin pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Yency Almonte pitched a perfect inning.  Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and earned his first save of the season. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit and an RBI, Frazier had two hits and an RBI and Conforto had two hits.  Wilmer Flores had an RBI and drew a walk, Jose Bautista drew two walks and Plawecki had two hits.  Jose Reyes had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and Smith had two hits.  Smith hit a double and Plawecki hit a triple.  Frazier hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits, Charlie Blackmon had two hits and Nolan Arenado had two hits and five RBI.  Trevor Story had a hit, Ian Desmond drew three walks and Chris Iannetta had a hit.  Gerardo Parra had an RBI, Noel Cuevas had a hit and Carlos Gonzalez drew a walk.  LeMahieu, Story and Arenado each hit a double and Arenado hit a homerun.  The Rockies were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  LeMahieu and Blackmon each had a stolen base.  
In the first Frazier hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Arenado 

hit a three-run homerun to give the Rockies a 3-1 lead.  In the second Arenado hit a two-run double 

to push the lead to 5-1.  In the third Nimmo hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2.  In the eighth 

Flores hit a sac fly to make it 5-3.  In the bottom of the eighth Parra hit a sac fly to push the lead to 

6-3 and in the ninth Reyes hit an RBI ground out to make it 6-4 which would be the final score
