The New York Mets lose their fourth straight game

The New York Mets were defeated by the Chicago Cubs by the score of 5-3 on Tuesday night. The game took place at Wrigley Field in Chicago,Illinois. Dillon Gee started and did not pitch very well for the Mets. Randy Wells started for the Cubs and didn’t pitch great but their bullpen did. Josh Thole led the Mets offense with two hits. The Cubs had five players with two hits. 
Gee pitched five innings giving up nine hits and four runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Gee suffered his sixth loss of the season. Jeremy Hefner pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings with a strikeout, Tim Byrdak faced two batters and retired them both and Hampson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run. Miguel Batista pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. Wells pitched three innings giving up six hits and three runs with four walks and three strikeouts. The Cubs bullpen pitched six innings giving up no runs and two hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis drew a walk, Ruben Tejada drew a walk and David Wright had an RBI and drew a walk. Lucas Duda drew a walk, Ike Davis had a hit and Scott Hairston had a hit and drew a walk. Murphy had a hit, Thole had two hits and an RBI and Gee had a hit, RBI and drew a walk. Ronny Cedeno had a hit, Justin Turner had a hit. Davis had a double, the Mets were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and they left 12 men on base. Hairston and Torres each had a stolen base. Nieuwenhuis was caught stealing. Tejada committed an error and Thole picked off a runner.

David DeJesus had two hits, Starlin Castro had a hit and drew a walk and Anthony Rizzo had two hits and an RBI. Alfonso Soriano had an RBI, Bryan LaHair drew a walk and Louis Valbuena had two hits and an RBI. Darwin Barney had two hits and an RBI, Steve Clevenger had two hits and Reed Johnson had a hit. Valbuena and Rizzo each hit a double. The Cubs were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and they left nine men on base. LaHair was picked off and Valbuena committed two errors.

Thole hit an RBI single and Gee hit an RBI single in the second inning to make it 2-0 Mets. In the third Soriano grounded out and Valbuena hit an RBI double. Barney hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Cubs. In the fourth Wright hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game at three. Rizzo hit an RBI double in the fourth to make it 4-3 Cubs. Johnson hit an RBI single in the eighth to make it 5-3 and that would be the final score.

The Mets have now lost four straight games. The Mets record fell to 39-36. The Cubs record improved to 26-48. The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Wednesday afternoon.
