The New York Yankees five game winning streak is snapped by the White Sox

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Chicago White Sox by the score of 4-3 on Thursday night. The game took place at Yankees Stadium in the Bronx,NY. Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and pitched very well. It got away from them in the ninth with a big error by Clay Rapada and Dave Robertson giving up a homerun. Derek Jeter almost hit a two run walkoff homerun in the bottom of the ninth but he fell just short. Alex Rodriguez led the Yankees offense. 
Nova pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up six hits and one run with three walks and five strikeouts. Boone Logan faced one batter and retired him, Cody Eppley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a strikeout and Rapada gave up a run without getting an out. Robertson pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. Robertson took his second blown save and fell to 0-2 on the season. The big play of the game though was an easy double play grounded to Rapada and he threw it very wide into center field and set up the White Sox winning the game. Dylan Axelrod started for the White Sox and pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and four strikeouts. Hector Santiago picked up his second win of the season pitching one inning and giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts. Addison Reed picked up his 11th save pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one.

Derek Jeter had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk and Alex Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI. Robinson Cano had a hit and an RBI, Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI and Nick Swisher drew a walk. Raul Ibanez drew a walk, DeWayne Wise had a hit and Chris Stewart had a hit. Rodriguez and Cano each had a double and Teixeira hit a homerun. The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Rapada committed an error, Granderson had a stolen base and Jeter was caught stealing.

Alejandro De Aza had four hits and an RBI, Adam Dunn drew two walks and Paul Konerko had a hit. Alex Rios had two hits, Dayan Viciedo had a hit and three RBI and drew a walk. Konerko had a double, De Aza and Viciedo each hit a homerun. The White Sox were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and they left six men on base.  De Aza was caught stealing.

De Aza hit a solo homerun in the fifth to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth Rodriguez and Cano each had an RBI double to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead. In the eighth Teixeira hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1. In the ninth Viciedo hit a three run homerun to give the White Sox a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score.

The Yankees had their five game winning streak snapped. The Yankees record dropped to 46-29 and the White Sox improved their record to 41-35. They are both in first place in their respective divisions. The two teams will play game two of the three game series on Friday night.
