The Yankees win the Subway Series in Citi Field with a Sunday night victory

The New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets by the score of 6-5 on Sunday night. The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing,NY. CC Sabathia and R.A. Dickey faced off in a matchup of aces. It didn’t live up to it’s hype though as the two pitchers didn’t pitch that great. Sabathia didn’t get help from his defense. Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher led the Yankees offense. The Mets had five players with two hits each. 
Sabathia pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and five runs but only one of them was earned. He walked two and struck out three. Cory Wade pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out one, Boone Logan won his second game of the season. Logan pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two batters, Dave Robertson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Rafael Soriano saved his 15th game of the season. Soriano pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one. Dickey pitched six innings giving up five hits and five runs with three walks and three strikeouts. Miguel Batista lost his second game of the season pitching two innings and giving up two hits and a run and struck out two and Bobby Parnell pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and Robinson Cano had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Mark Teixeira had two RBI, Swisher had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Raul Ibanez had three hits. Swisher and Cano each hit a homerun. The Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Stewart committed two errors and Cano had one.

Andres Torres had two hits and two RBI and drew a walk, Ruben Tejada had two hits and two RBI and David Wright had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk. Lucas Duda had two hits, Ronny Cedeno had two hits and Josh Thole had a hit. Dickey had a hit and Vinny Rottino drew a walk. The Mets were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. Wright had a stolen base, Torres had two stolen bases and Dickey and Tejada each committed an error. Thole had a passed ball.

In the third Teixeira hit a sacrifice fly giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Swisher hit a three run homerun and it was 4-0 Yankees. Tejada hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third to make it a 4-1 game. In the fifth Teixeira hit a groundout scoring a run and making it a 5-1 game. In the bottom of the fifth Wright hit an RBI single to make it a 5-2 game. In the bottom of the sixth Torres had a two run single and Tejada had an RBI single to tie the game at five. Cano hit a solo homerun in the eighth to make it a 6-5 game.

The Yankees won their second game in a row and improved their record to 43-28. The Mets record dropped to 39-34. The Yankees won five out of six games against the Mets this season in the Subway Series. The Yankees remain in first place in the AL East by 2 ½ games over the Baltimore Orioles. The Mets are in second place in the NL East 3 ½ games behind the Washington Nationals. The Yankees will head home and take on the Cleveland Indians on Monday night to start a three game series. The Mets will head to Chicago to take on the Cubs in a three game series beginning Monday night.
