The New York Yankees win second straight over the Nationals on a walk-off

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen did their thing and the offense only managed five hits but it was enough for the victory. 

German pi9tched 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Michael King pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits, Wandy Peralta pitched to one batter and got him out and Aroldis Chapman earned his second win of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

Joe Ross started for the Nationals and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with five walks and seven strikeouts.  Sam Clay pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Austin Voth pitched two innings giving up a hit and three walks with two strikeouts and Brad Hand lost his first game of the season.  Hand pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks and Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres had a hit and an RBI, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Mike Ford drew two walks.  Tyler Wade drew a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Judge drew a pinch-hit walk.  Gardner hit a double, Torres hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base. 

Trea Turner had three hits, Josh Bell had a hit and Starlin Castro had two hits and drew a walk.  Kyle Schwarber had a hit and two RBI, Yan Gomes had a hit and Castro and Bell each hit a double.  Schwarber hit a homerun and the Nationals were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the bottom of the third Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Torres hit a solo homerun to push the Yankees lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Schwarber hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the ninth Stanton hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Yankees the 3-2 win.  It was their second straight walk-off win and they finished their homestand at 7-2.  The Yankees will be off on Monday before beginning a three-game series in Tampa Bay on Tuesday night.   

New York Yankees defeat the Washington Nationals in 11 innings

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3 in 11 innings.  Corey Kluber started for the Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen did it’s job and the offense was led by Gleyber Torres who had two hits and two RBI. 

Kluber pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Lucas Luetge pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Justin Wilson picked up his first win of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Max Scherzer started for the Nationals and he pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and 14 strikeouts.  Daniel Hudson pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout, Brad Hand pitched an inning giving up three hits and two earned runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Kyle Finnegan pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Tanner Rainey pitched giving up a hit and a run with two walks and he took his second loss of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk.  Torres had two hits and two RBI, Clint Frazier drew a walk and Mike Ford had a hit and an RBI.  Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI, Higashioka hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-6 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Trea Turner had a hit and an RBI, Juan Soto had an RBI and Ryan Zimmerman had a hit.  Kyle Shwarber had a hit, Starlin Castro had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Alex Avila had a hit and drew a walk.  Victor Robles had three hits, Schwarber hit a double and the Nationals were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Robles had a stolen base. 

In the third Soto drew an RBI walk to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Higashioka hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Castro hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth Torres hit an RBI single to tie the game at two and in the tenth Turner hit a sac fly to give the Nationals back the lead at 3-2.  The Yankees tied the game in the bottom of the tenth on a Ford RBI single.  In the 11th Torres hit an RBI walk-off single to give the Yankees a 4-3 victory.

New York Mets blow lead and lose to the St. Louis Cardinals

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.  The game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri and the final score was 6-5.  Joey Lucchesi started for the Mets and he pitched poorly.  Pete Alonso had three hits and Kevin Pillar had two hits to lead the offense. 

Lucchesi pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and six runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Lucchesi took his second loss of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched 2 1/3 innings with a strikeout, Sean Reid-Foley pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out three and Jacob Barnes pitched an inning with a walk. 

Adam Wainwright won his first game of the season.  He started for the Cardinals and pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs.  He walked three and struck out five.  Genesis Cabrera pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout, Ryan Helsley pitched to one batter and got him out and Giovanny Gallegos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Alex Reyes pitched an inning with two walks and he earned his eighth save of the season. 

Jeff McNeil had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Francisco Lindor drew a walk and Michael Conforto drew a walk.  Alonso had three hits and drew a walk, Dom Smith had an RBI and drew a walk and Pillar had two hits and two RBI.  Jonathan Villar drew a walk, Tomas Nido had a hit and an RBI and Alonso hit two doubles.  Pillar hit a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. 

Tommy Edman had two hits, Dylan Carlson had a hit and an RBI and Paul Goldschmidt had a hit and drew a walk.  Nolan Arenado had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Paul DeJong had two hits and Tyler O’Neill had a hit and an RBI.  Harrison Bader had a hit and an RBI, DeJong, O’Neill and Edman each hit a double and Edman hit a triple.  Bader and Arenado each hit a homerun and the Cardinals were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the bottom of the first Carlson hit a sac fly to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nido was hit by a pitch to tie the game at one.  MeNeil drew an RBI walk and the Mets took a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the second Bader hit a solo homerun tying the game at two.  In the third Smith hit an RBI ground out to give the Mets back the lead at 3-2.  Pillar hit a two-run homerun extending the Mets lead to 5-2.  In the bottom of the third Arenado hit a three-run homerun tying the game at five.  O’Neill hit an RBI double and the Cardinals grabbed a 6-5 lead which would be the final score.

New York Yankees win second straight over the Detroit Tigers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-4.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Aaron Judge had three hits and three RBI to lead the offense and Gleyber Torres added two hits and three RBI. 

Taillon pitched five innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his first game of the season and first game in exactly two years.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk, Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout and Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts.  Aroldis Chapman earned his fifth save of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts.   

Spencer Turnbull started for the Tigers and he pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs with three walks and a strikeout.  He lost his second game of the season.  Jose Cisnero pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout, Alex Lange pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Derek Holland pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

DJ LeMahieu had two hits and drew a walk, Judge had three hits and three RBI and Roughned Odor drew a walk.  Torres had two hits and three RBI, Mike Ford drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit.  Gary Sanchez drew a walk, Clint Frazier drew a walk and Brett Gardner drew a walk.  Judge hit a double and the Yankees were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  LeMahieu had a stolen base and Frazier committed an error.  Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Robbie Grossman drew two walks, Willi Castro drew a walk and Jonathan Schoop had a hit and two RBI.  Jeimer Candelario had three hits and an RBI, Akil Baddoo drew a walk and Niko Goodrum had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Jacoby Jones had a hit and drew a walk, Candelario and Goodrum each hit a homerun and the Tigers were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Goodrum and Baddoo each had a stolen base.  Castro and Greiner each committed an error.  In the third Torres hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Candelario hit a solo homerun tying the game at one.  In the bottom of the fifth Judge hit an RBI double giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the sixth Judge hit a two-run single to push the Yankees lead to 4-1.  Torres hit a two-run single making it 6-1 Yankees.  In the seventh Schoop hit a two-run single to make it a 6-3 game.  Goodrum hit a solo homerun in the eighth and the game ended at 6-4 Yankees. 

The Yankees will go for the three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon. 

New York Yankees rout the Detroit Tigers

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-0.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the bullpen also pitched well.  Giancarlo Stanton had three hits and Aaron Judge had five RBI to lead the offense. 

Cole won his fourth game of the season pitching six innings and giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and 12 strikeouts.  Luis Cessa pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts, Wandy Peralta pitched an inning with a strikeout and Lucas Luetge pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Tarik Skubal started for the Tigers and he pitched three innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and a strikeout.  Skubal lost his fourth game of the season.  Buck Farmer pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with a walk, Bryan Garcia pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout and Tyler Alexander pitched three innings giving up four hits and a run with three strikeouts.  Daniel Norris pitched an inning giving up two hits.

Robbie Grossman had a hit, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and drew a walk and Jeimer Candelario had a hit.  Wilson Ramos had a hit and the Tigers were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

In the first Urshela hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Frazier hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 2-0 and in the third Hicks hit a two-run homerun extending the lead to 4-0.  In the bottom of the fourth Judge hit a grand slam and the score was 8-0 Yankees.  Hicks hit an RBI double making it 9-0 and in the fifth Odor hit a solo homerun to end the scoring at 10-0.  The two teams will play game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
