Super Bowl Sunday

The Super Bowl is upon  us and after all the deflating talk it is finally time for the last football game of the year.  There are those of us in the baseball world that are very happy because that means it is time for baseball to go back to the forefront and we can see spring ahead of us and pitchers and catchers will be reporting very soon.

The New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks are the two teams competing this year.  The Seahawks are looking for their second straight championship and are led by quarterback Russell Wilson and running back Marshawn Lynch and of course have a very good defense if not great defense.  The Patriots are led by their head coach Bill Belichek and their quarterback Tom Brady.  They have heard all the talk for two weeks now about them cheating with deflating footballs and how they have cheated in the past.  I think though this will be a good game and afterwards especially if the Patriots win you will hear more talk about cheating but for the time being it has basically gone away and everyone is focused on the game.  It should be a very good game.

These are two good defenses and the Patriots have a very good offense.  The Seahawks offense isn't so good but if they run the ball that is pretty much their offense and Wilson has a knack for making big plays at big times.  If the Patriots stop Lynch though, they should be able to win the game.  I am predicting a fairly low scoring game.  I would say 24-17 somewhere in that range and I am going to go with the Patriots.  I know they haven't won the Super Bowl in ten years and they have lost the last two they have been in.  The last two though have been against the New York Giants who have their number and I think they are going to be extra enthusiastic with everything going on and right now they probably are the best team.  I think the Seahawks are very good but haven't been playing their best, they were lucky to make it out of the NFC Championship game and I think they are ready to be knocked off of their throne.  I am picking the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl and then it is on to the business of baseball.

The New York Giants win second game in a row

The New York Giants won their second game in a row on Sunday afternoon.  They defeated the Washington Redskins 24-13 at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  The Giants started the year losing two in a row and then won three in a row before losing seven in a row.  They are now on a modest two game winning streak with two games left to play.  Eli Manning had a good game and Odell Beckham Jr. continues to be a beast as he caught three touchdown passes.  The defense was better then it has been as well.

Eli Manning was 23-34 for three touchdowns and no interceptions.  He had 250 yards passing and a rating of 118.5 which was his second highest of the season.  Beckham caught 12 passes for 143 yards and had all three of the Giants touchdowns.  The 12 receptions were the most ever by a Giants rookie.  The other seven Giants to catch passes totaled 11.

The running game had trouble once again which they have most of the season.  The Giants offensive line needs to improve if they are going to improve next season.  Williams had 18 carries for 44 yards and Jennings had one carry and left with an ankle injury.

The defense was much better.  Jason Pierre-Paul and Jonathan Hankins each had 2.5 sacks to lead the defense.  Cullen Jenkins had a sack and Damontre Moore and Devon Kennard had a 1/2 sack each.  The Giants have 41 sacks this season which surpasses last year when they only had 34.  They have two games remaining so they are well ahead of last season.

Pierre-Paul leads the team with 9.5 sacks this season and Hankins is second with seven sacks.  The Giants have won two in a row and have two games remaining.  They will play in St. Louis on Sunday late afternoon and then return home for their final game on December 28th against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The New York Giants lose their fourth straight game as they are trounced in Seattle

The New York Giants were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks by the score of 38-17 on Sunday evening.  The game took place in Seattle, Washington.  The New York Giants were competitive for most of the game on Sunday evening.  The final score though wouldn't indicate that as they lost in Seattle by the score of 38-17.  Eli Manning was good and Odell Beckham Jr. looks to be the real deal.  The Giants can't run the ball at all though and their defense is really bad as they gave up over 300 yards rushing.

Eli Manning was 29-44 for 283 yards and one touchdown.  He also was intercepted once.  Andre Williams rushed the ball for 33 yards on 13 carries and Beckham had one carry for 11 yards.  Beckham led the receivers with seven catches for 108 yards and Preston Parker also had seven catches for 79 yards.

Russell Wilson was 10-17 for 172 yards and no touchdowns.  Marshawn Lynch had 140 yards rushing on 21 carries and Wilson had 107 yards rushing on 14 carries.  Kearse was the leading receiver with three catches for 70 yards.

The Giants defense statistically is the worst they have ever had.  They came in to the game allowing around 27 points per game.  They have given up 5 300 rushing yard games which is pretty hard to do.  It was the most rushing yards that any team in the NFL has allowed in five years.

The Giants are now 3-6 and on a four game losing streak.  They most certainly will finish under 500 for the second straight season and miss the playoffs for the third straight season.  They will now face the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys in back to back weeks at home.  It is looking more and more like the Giants will make major changes to their coaching staff after this season especially if they can't turn it around even a little bit.

Michael Strahan is a hall of famer

Michael Strahan is a Hall Of Famer

Michael Strahan is a former New York Giant football player. He is also currently a daytime talk show host along with Kelly Ripa. He replaced Regis Philbin on the Live with Regis and Kelly show and now it is the Live with Kelly and Michael show. He also is on the set of the fox pre game show on Sunday for the NFL. He was a great football player and is now being recognized for it. Michael Strahan got elected to the pro football hall of fame on Saturday night.

His career was 15 years long and he only played for one team. He holds the single season record for sacks and had over 140 in his career. He also won a super bowl in his final season of 2007. He was drafted in 1993 and played only nine games due to injuries. He had a breakout year in 1997 recording 14 sacks. He appeared in his first pro bowl that season. In 1998 he had 15 sacks and appeared in the pro bowl once again. The Giants appeared in the 2000 Super Bowl and lost and then won the Super Bowl in his last season of 2007.

Strahan retired with 141.5 sacks, 854 career tackles, 4 career interceptions, 24 forced fumbles and 3 career touchdowns. He was in the pro bowl seven times; in his first year of eligibility in 2013 he failed to make the hall of fame. He made it on his second try though. He set the record with 22.5 sacks in a season back in 2001.

Strahan has been on quite a run first getting to be the co-host on Live after Regis Philbin left and now a hall of famer. He is credited with taking the Live show to new heights. The ratings have been through the roof and now he will get to celebrate all in his life as a hall of famer.

The Giants put out a lot of congratulations on Saturday night to him. They can all be read on Giants.com.

The New York Giants 2013 season

The New York Giants 2013 Season

The New York Giants had an awful 2013 season. They completed it last Sunday with a win at home against the Washington Redskins. They won their last two games and seven of their last ten games. That wasn’t a bad way to finish but after being 0-6 it was too little too late.

The Giants had many problems this season; most of it was on offense though. Eli Manning didn’t have a good year at all. He set the franchise record for interceptions in a single season with 27 but it wasn’t his entire fault. He had around half of them on tipped balls. The offensive line was in shambles, it wasn’t good at all and he was running for his life most of the season. There was virtually no running game, which is basically a product of the offensive line. Manning with these things to deal with also didn’t have receivers that were on the same page with him. It is hard for anyone to overcome all of this and still somehow they won seven of their last ten games.

The defense after the first few weeks was very good. Jon Beason came to the team later in the season and is a guy they have to resign. He became a leader on the defense and really turned it around for them. Antrelle Rolle is another leader and a guy who played really well this season. Justin Tuck started off slow but had a really good year. He is a free agent and it will be interesting to see what they do with him. Osi Uminyora was a guy who they really missed having. JPP was a guy who just wasn’t himself and was injured.

The Giants finished the season 7-9, which after their awful start is pretty amazing, but for the Giants it was a terrible year. It was their first losing season since Eli first year, which was ten years ago. Kevin Gilbride retired already and Perry Fewell is getting an interview with the Washington Redskins. I would expect major changes on offense. Hakeem Nicks is another player with all the talent but he just was terrible this year and I can see him not on the team next year. The Giants also desperately need a tight end. It will be an off-season of change for them and will be interesting to see exactly what they will do to address the offense. Stay tuned Giants fans but I expect better days ahead for the team.

The New York Giants are shutout at home by the Seattle Seahawks

The New York Giants are shutout at home by the Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 23-0 and the game took place at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. This whole Giants season has been a disaster but this was an awful performance especially by the offense.

Eli Manning set the franchise record for most interceptions in one season and he threw five in this game. The Giants offense in the first seven possessions had four punts and three interceptions. They had a total of 54 yards and two first downs in the first half. Eli Manning was under siege most of the day but he still has to get some blame. He finished the day 18-31 for 156 yards and the five interceptions. The Giants allowed four sacks and rushed for only 25 yards on 14 attempts. The offensive line is in shambles and the Giants are going to have to address that. Manning doesn’t get a total pass for this season but he has no running game, no offensive line and receivers who haven’t been on the same page as him the whole season. The offense has been a total mess all season.

The Giants defense did put up a fight especially considering that the offense didn’t help them at all and they were facing a really good team. Marshawn Lynch was limited to 47 yards on 16 attempts. He did receive six passes for 73 yards. The Giants did have three sacks and the Seahawks converted only three third downs.

Steve Weatherford had a good day averaging 47.5 yards per punt. He had eight kicks and put two inside the 20-yard line. The safety Ryan Mundy had six tackles and a sack in his first start since week seven. Antrel Rolle had an interception for his sixth of the season. Cullen Jenkins had a good game with three tackles two QB hits and a shared sack.

The Giants have two games left, in Detroit next week and then they finish at home against the Washington Redskins. They have nothing left to play for other then pride. It will be interesting to see if any coaching changes are made. I think the head coach has earned the right to stay to he is ready to leave. If they were going to fire him they will make it a very nice thing with him leaving and I am pretty sure he will want to come back for at least another year. I think the fall guy will be Kevin Gilbride the offensive coordinator. Jerry Reese the GM is under fire also but they aren’t going to make a change there yet. They will give him a little time especially after winning the two super bowls.

The New York Giants get back on the winning track

The New York Giants get back on the winning track

The New York Giants defeated the Washington Redskins on Sunday night. The final score was 24-17 and the game took place at FedEx Field in Washington D.C. It was a really good game; the Giants found themselves down 14-0 in the second quarter but rallied to tie it at the half. The Giants defense took over in the second half and Eli Manning was better then he has been.

Eli Manning was 22-28 for 235 yards and a touchdown with an interception. His 78.6 completion percentage was his second highest in his career for a full game. His passer rating was the second highest of the season. It was his best game since week one against Dallas in that way. The Giants rushing game wasn’t as good, they rushed for 80 yards on 23 carries. It is still better then what it was earlier in the season. Peyton Hillis who was inactive the past two games led the team in rushing. He had six carries for 45 yards. Andre Brown had 14 attempts for 35 yards. Victor Cruz led the team with six receptions for 80 yards. Brandon Myers had five receptions for 61 yards. Hakeem Nicks had two catches for 34 yards.

The Giants defense was really good after a slow start. They had a season high of five sacks. Justin Tuck had four and he only had 2.5 coming into the game. It was a career high for him and is tied for the third highest total in team history. Cullen Jenkins had the other sack. Tuck now has his highest season total since 2010. Jon Beason who has been great since coming to the team had 17 tackles. Will Hill had a forced fumble and his first career fumble recovery. The Giants held Alfred Morris of the Redskins to 26 yards on 11 carries. He came into the game as the third leading rusher in the NFL.

The Giants are at 5-7 and still mathematically in the playoff picture. They have to win every game though to have a shot and this was a good start. The Giants will play at the San Diego Chargers on Sunday afternoon. They will then return home to take on the Seattle Seahawks before going to Detroit and finishing at home with the Washington Redskins.

The Baltimore Ravens win the Super Bowl in a crazy game

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers in a crazy game by the score of 34-31. The Ravens dominated the first half and were well on their way to victory when the power went off in the Superdome. There was a 35 minute delay and when play resumed it was all 49ers for quite a while. The niners were able to get back in the game but were stopped on a first and goal that became fourth and goal and a turnover on downs. The Ravens basically ran out the clock with a interesting strategy at the end to take a safety.
Joe Flacco was the MVP of the game as he threw for three touchdowns and didn’t throw an interception. In the postseason he threw 11 touchdown passes and did not throw one interception. Flacco in the Super Bowl was 22-33 for 287 yards with the three touchdown passes. Ray Rice led the Ravens rushing attack with 20 rushes for 59 yards and Bernard Pierce rushed 12 times for 33 yards. Anquan Boldin led the receiving corps with six catches for 104 yards and one touchdown. Jacoby Jones had one catch for 56 yards and a touchdown, Ed Dickson had two for 37 yards and Dennis Pitta had four for 26 yards and a touchdown. Torrey Smith had two receptions for 35 yards, Rice had four for 19 yards and Vonta Leach had three for 10 yards. Justin Tucker was 2-2 on field goals and his long was 38 yards. He also converted four extra points. Jones had five kickoff returns for an average of 41.2 yards and a touchdown. He tied the record with a 108 yard kickoff return. That was the first play of the second half which gave the Ravens a 28-6 lead. They led 21-6 at the half and came out flying before the niners got something going with 17 straight points after the power outage.

Colin Kaepernick was 16-28 for 302 yards a touchdown and an interception. Frank Gore led the niners rushing attack with 19 rushes for 110 yards and a touchdown. Kaepernick had seven rushes for 62 yards and a touchdown and LaMichael James had three rushes for ten yards. Michael Crabtree led the receivers with five receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown, Vernon Davis had six receptions for 104 yards and Delanie Walker had three receptions for 48 yards. Randy Moss had two receptions for 41 yards. David Akers was 3-3 on field goals with his long being 36 yards and he made two extra points. James had three kickoff returns with an average of 25 yards and Ted Ginn Jr. had one for 31 yards. Andy Lee had three punts with an average of 53 yards.

Patrick Willis led the niners defense with eight tackles and two assists. Each team had one lost fumble, Ed Reed had an interception for the Ravens and Dannell Ellerbe had six tackles and three assists to lead the Ravens defense.

The countdown is now for the next Super Bowl which will be a year from this one at Met Life Stadium in New Jersey. It will be an outdoor Super Bowl for the first time which should be interesting. This is the last football game until August when preseason football begins so it is a sad time for football fans but a happy time for baseball fans as it is now their turn with pitchers and catchers reporting in a week.

NFL Championship Sunday

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Atlanta Falcons by the score of 28-24 in Atlanta to be the first entrant into this years Super Bowl. The Patriots and Ravens faced off in the night game in Foxbourough, Massachusetts and the Ravens came out on top winning the game by the score of 28-13. The Ravens lost last year in the AFC Championship game in the same place so they got their revenge. This also sets up the Harbowl as the two head coaches are brothers who are 15 months apart in age.
The San Francisco/Atlanta game was a good back and forth game. The second half was especially good as the action picked up, it really went down to the wire but in the end the niners were a little bit too much for the Falcons. The niners overcame an early 17 point deficit. Their quarterback who is in his second year played well again and Frank Gore the running back really had a great game rushing for over 100 yards. The niners also avenged a loss in last years NFC championship game although it was to the New York Giants.

In the night cap it was a very close game throughout the first half. The game was 13-6 in favor of the Patriots at the half and the Ravens dominated the second half outscoring the Patriots 22-0 in the second half. The Ravens defense gave up some big plays but they wouldn’t break and kept New England off the scoreboard. The Ravens offense put the ball in Joe Flacco hands and he looked really good picking apart the Partriots defense.

This is going to be one interesting Super Bowl and I am sure we will hear every detail of the Harbaugh family over the next couple of weeks.

The New York Jets end their miserable season with a loss in Buffalo

The New York Jets lost to the Buffalo Bills by the score of 28-9 on Sunday. The game took place at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, New York. The Jets looked as miserable as they have all season, Mark Sanchez got another chance to start and wasn’t very good once again. Tim Tebow didn’t play at all and he will be gone very shortly I suspect.
Sanchez was 17-35 for 205 yards, no touchdowns an an interception. Shonn Greene led the rushing attack with 74 yards on 19 attempts. Bilal Powell had 56 yards on 12 carries, Lex Hilliard had two yards on a carry and Joe McKnight had two yards on a carry.

Jeremy Kerley had three receptions for 88 yards, Braylon Edwards had four receptions for 42 yards and Jeff Cumberland had three receptions for 36 yards. Jordan White had one reception for 13 yards, Powell had two for 12 yards and Hilliard had one for seven yards. Konrad Reuland had one reception for four yards and Greene had two for three yards.

Ryan Fitzpatrick was 12-26 for 225 yards and a touchdown. C.J. Spiller led the Bills rushing attack with 59 yards on 24 carries. Tashard Choice had five rushes for 30 yards and a touchdown and Brad Smith had two for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Stevie Johnson led the receivers with six catches for 111 yards, Spiller had two for 72 yards and a touchdown and Smith had two for 26 yards. Ruvell Martin had one reception for 11 yards and T.J. Graham had one for five yards.

Rian Lindell was 0-2 on field goals and made four extra points. Smith had three kickoff returns for an average of 26.7 yards and Justin Rogers had one for 27 yards. Shawn Powell had five punts for an average of 39.2 yards with 51 being the long.

Bryan Scott had an interception and Nick Barnett led the defense with six tackles and five assists. Spencer Johnson had a sack.

The Jets finished their season at 6-10 and the Bills had the same record. The Jets are going to make some changes and now we await the fates of the coaches and the General manager. It looks like the head coach will stay with everyone else going. It should be an interesting offseason as they try to trade Sanchez and they get rid of Tebow. I expect Tebow to land in Jacksonville where he will be the starter and restart his career and probably end up doing well.

The New York Giants finish strong but miss the playoffs

The New York Giants defeated the Philadelphia Eagles by the score of 42-7 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Giants came onto the field knowing that they needed to win and three other teams had to lose for them to earn a trip to the postseason and try to defend their title. They knew they couldn’t control what happened elsewhere but they made sure to take care of their own business. They had a dominating performance that left you wondering where they had been for the last couple of weeks.
Eli Manning was 13-21 for 208 yards and five touchdowns. David Carr was 1-1 for 15 yards, Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 107 yards on 16 carries and David Wilson rushed for 75 yards on 15 carries. Bradshaw also had a touchdown, Jerrel Jernigan had one carry for six yards.

Rueben Randle had four receptions for 58 yards and two touchdowns, Victor Cruz had four for 52 yards and a touchdown and Domenick Hixon had two catches for 41 yards. Bradshaw had a reception for 41 yards, Wilson had one for 15 yards and Martellus Bennett had one for 15 yards. Henry Hynoski had one catch for a yard and a touchdown.

Lawrence Tynes didn’t attempt a field goal but was 6-6 on extra points. Wilson had one kickoff return for 29 yards and Steve Weatherford had two punts with an average of 49 yards. Stevie Brown had an interception and Chase Blackburn led the defense with six tackles and an assist. Brown had six tackles plus the interception. Justin Tuck had a sack.

Michael Vick was 19-35 for 197 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Trent Edwards was 2-2 for 14 yards. LeSean McCoy had 10 rushes for 45 yards, Vick had five for 25 yards and Bryce Brown had eight rushes for 18 yards. Dion Lewis had three rushes for 15 yards and Damaris Johnson had one rush for seven yards.

McCoy had five receptions for 61 yards, Brent Celek had three receptions for 43 yards and Jason Avant had four receptions for 39 yards. Jeremy Maclin had four receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown, Riley Cooper had three for 32 yards and Johnson had one for eight yards. Brown had one for six yards.

Alex Henery was 0-1 on field goals and he did make an extra point. Brandon Boykin had three kickoff returns for an average of 28 yards and Brown had one for 16 yards. Mat McBriar had four punts for an average of 40.3 yards.

Colt Anderson led the defense with nine tackles and one assist. Phillip Hunt had a sack.

The Giants finished their season 9-7 which was the same record as last year when they won the Super Bowl. They have no one to blame but themselves though as they had a two game division lead with five games to go and blew it. They also in the last couple of weeks when they lost had destiny in their own hands. The Eagles finished out a terrible season going 4-12 and ending an era as Andy Reid will be fired as head coach.

The New York Giants are embarrassed in Atlanta

The New York Giants lost to the Atlanta Falcons by the score of 34-0 on Sunday afternoon. There was nothing good at all you could say about this game for the Giants. It took place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. Eli Manning had a terrible game and you could say so did coach Tom Coughlin.
Manning was 13-25 for 161 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. David Wilson led the rushing attack with 12 rushes for 55 yards and Kregg Lumpkin had nine rushes for 42 yards.

Domenick Hixon had five receptions for 80 yards to lead the receivers. Hakeem Nicks had three receptions for 40 yards, Victor Cruz had three receptions for 15 yards and Martellus Bennett had one reception for 15 yards. Wilson had one reception for 11 yards.

Will Hill led the defense with six tackles and three assists. Chris Canty had a sack and Stevie Brown had six tackles with two assists.

Matt Ryan was 23-28 for 270 yards and three touchdowns. Michael Turner led the Falcons rushing attack with 16 rushes for 52 yards and a touchdown. Jason Snelling rushed six times for 39 yards, Jacquizz Rodgers had 11 attempts for 25 yards and Julio Jones had one rush for 18 yards.

Jones led the receivers with six receptions for 74 yards. Harry Douglas had three receptions for 83 yards, Tony Gonzalez had six receptions for 49 yards and Roddy White had two receptions for 16 yards. Snelling had three receptions for 14 yards, Rodgers had one reception for 14 yards and Mike Cox had one reception for 11 yards. Turner had one reception for nine yards. Matt Bryant was 2-2 on field goals with 38 being his long and 4-4 on extra points.

Asante Samuel and Thomas Decoud each had an interception. Sean Weatherspoon led the Falcons defense with six tackles and three assists. Kroy Biermann had a sack.

The Giants are now 8-6 on the season and in a three way tie for first place in the NFC East. The Redskins hold the tie breaker and are technically the first place team. The Giants if they win their last two games will be in the playoffs and they will see how the seeding unfolds. They still have destiny in their own hands, they play at Baltimore and then home against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Atlanta Falcons are having a great season and improved to 12-2.

The New York Giants roll past the New Orleans Saints

The New York Giants special teams did some heavy lifting on Sunday evening. The Giants were able to beat the New Orleans Saints by the score of 52-27, rookie David Wilson set a Giants rookie record for most all purpose yards ever. The Giants rookie had a 97 yard kick return for a touchdown and a couple of other long ones which really set up the Giants field position all day.
Eli Manning was 22-35 for 259 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Wilson had 13 rushing attempts for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Ahmad Bradshaw had 11 carries for 33 yards and Henry Hynoski had one carry for five yards.

Victor Cruz led the receivers with eight catches for 121 yards and a touchdown, Hakeem Nicks had four catches for 67 yards and a touchdown and Martellus Bennett had five catches for 32 yards and a touchdown. Domenik Hixon had three catches for 30 yards and a touchdown and Hynoski had two catches for nine yards.

Lawrence Tynes was 1-2 on field goals making from 39 yards and he had seven extra points. Stevie Brown on defense had two interceptions and the Giants had one sack from Osi Umenyiora. Michael Boley led the defense with seven tackles and three assists.

Drew Brees was 26-43 for 354 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Mark Ingram led the rushing with 13 attempts for 68 yards. Darren Sproles had five rushes for 56 yards and a touchdown, Pierre Thomas had five rushes for 19 yards.

Joseph Morgan led the receivers with two catches for 106 yards. Marques Colston had four receptions for 61 yards, Thomas had seven receptions for 57 yards, Jimmy Graham had five catches for 56 yards and Darren Sproles had four for 28 yards and a touchdown. Lance Moore had one catch for 26 yards, Devery Henderson had one for 11 yards and Jed Collins had two catches for nine yards.

Garrett Hartley was 2-2 in field goals with his long being from 32 yards and he made three extra points. The Saints defense had two interceptions and Curtis Lofton led their defense with seven tackles and two assists.

The Giants remain in first place in the NFC East. They are now 8-5 on the season and will travel to Atlanta for their next game on Sunday. The Saints record dropped to 5-8 on the season and they will have to win out and hope for a lot of luck, but they are basically out of the playoffs now.

New York Jets win a lousy game over the Arizona Cardinals

The New York Jets defeated the Arizona Cardinals by the score of 7-6 on Sunday evening. The game took place at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It was a terrible offensive game for both sides. Mark Sanchez was so bad that he was finally benched, not for Tim Tebow though. Tebow was inactive for the game with a couple of fractured ribs. Greg McElroy got his first action and led the Jets to victory.
Sanchez was 10-21 for 97 yards no touchdowns and he threw three interceptions. McElroy was 5-7 for 29 yards and a touchdown. Shonn Greene led the rushing attack with 24 carries for 104 yards, Bilal Powell had 12 rushes for 58 yards and Joe McKnight had two rushes for eight yards. Stephen Hill led the receivers with five receptions for 40 yards. Jeremy Kerley had three receptions for 37 yards, Jeff Cumberland had two receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown and Dustin Keller had two receptions for 17 yards. Chaz Schilens had two receptions for five yards. Nick Folk was 0-2 in field goal attempts and made the one extra point.

Ryan Lindley was 10-31 for the Cardinals for 72 yards and an interception. Rashad Johnson had one rush for 40 yards, Beanie Wells had 15 rushes for 22 yards and William Powell had four rushes for 18 yards. Larry Fitzgerald had one catch for 23 yards, Michael Floyd had two catches for 22 yards and Rob Housler had four receptions for 15 yards. Early Doucet had two receptions for 13 yards.

Laron Landry had an interception for the Jets and Kerry Rhodes had two for the Cardinals and Patrick Peterson had the other for the Cardinals. Kyle Wilson led the Jets defense with five tackles and an assist. David Harris had ½ a sack, Muhammad Wilkerson had ½ a sack and Bart Scott had a sack. William Gay had a sack for the Cardinals, Adrian Wilson, Sam Acho, Darnell Dockett and David Carter each had ½ a sack.

The Jets record improved to 5-7 and they kept their fading playoff hopes alive. The Cardinals record dropped to 4-8 as they will be playing out the string. The Jets next game will be Sunday afternoon at the Jacksonville Jaguars. The question now for the Jets will be who is their quarterback in that game. I would suspect Greg McElroy but could it be Tim Tebow and will any of the three quarterbacks not dress for the game?? We will have to see in the next couple of days if the Jets announce it.
