The New York Giants 2013 season

The New York Giants 2013 Season

The New York Giants had an awful 2013 season. They completed it last Sunday with a win at home against the Washington Redskins. They won their last two games and seven of their last ten games. That wasn’t a bad way to finish but after being 0-6 it was too little too late.

The Giants had many problems this season; most of it was on offense though. Eli Manning didn’t have a good year at all. He set the franchise record for interceptions in a single season with 27 but it wasn’t his entire fault. He had around half of them on tipped balls. The offensive line was in shambles, it wasn’t good at all and he was running for his life most of the season. There was virtually no running game, which is basically a product of the offensive line. Manning with these things to deal with also didn’t have receivers that were on the same page with him. It is hard for anyone to overcome all of this and still somehow they won seven of their last ten games.

The defense after the first few weeks was very good. Jon Beason came to the team later in the season and is a guy they have to resign. He became a leader on the defense and really turned it around for them. Antrelle Rolle is another leader and a guy who played really well this season. Justin Tuck started off slow but had a really good year. He is a free agent and it will be interesting to see what they do with him. Osi Uminyora was a guy who they really missed having. JPP was a guy who just wasn’t himself and was injured.

The Giants finished the season 7-9, which after their awful start is pretty amazing, but for the Giants it was a terrible year. It was their first losing season since Eli first year, which was ten years ago. Kevin Gilbride retired already and Perry Fewell is getting an interview with the Washington Redskins. I would expect major changes on offense. Hakeem Nicks is another player with all the talent but he just was terrible this year and I can see him not on the team next year. The Giants also desperately need a tight end. It will be an off-season of change for them and will be interesting to see exactly what they will do to address the offense. Stay tuned Giants fans but I expect better days ahead for the team.

The New York Giants win their fourth straight game

The New York Giants win their fourth straight game

The New York Giants defeated the Green Bay Packers on Sunday evening. The final score was 27-13. The game took place at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Giants defense played well again and the offense was pretty good. The offense still has areas to work on but it has been getting better.

The Giants defense had three interceptions and one of them went back for a touchdown. JPP had his second career interception return for a touchdown. The Giants had only eight interceptions all season before today. The defense has really stepped it up in the last four games. Beason has come to the team and made a huge difference. JPP is getting better and better, he was coming back from a back injury. Justin Tuck has looked better, the defense as a whole is playing great and that is really propelling the team.

The Giants offense has been better because they are more balanced. Andre Brown returning from injury has boosted the team. Eli Manning is playing better but he is still a little off and not in synch with all of the receivers. He was 25-35 for 279 yards. He had a touchdown and an interception. Victor Cruz led the receivers with eight catches for 110 yards. It was the first time a Giants receiver has had at least 100 yards since October 6th in Philadelphia. Rueben Randle had a touchdown catch, which was his sixth of the season. He has two more than Cruz and Brandon Jacobs.

Andre Brown led the rushing attack with 18 carries for 66 yards. He leads the team in rushing yards and has only played in two games. Jacobs was playing for the first time since October 10th in Chicago. He scored his 60th career-rushing touchdown extending his franchise record.

The Giants are now 4-6 and trail the Dallas Cowboys by a game and the Philadelphia Eagles are in first place at 6-5. The Giants host the Cowboys next Sunday at 4:25PM. The Giants could pull even with them and be right behind the Eagles for first place in the NFC East. Who would of thought that after a 0-6 start?

The New York Jets end their miserable season with a loss in Buffalo

The New York Jets lost to the Buffalo Bills by the score of 28-9 on Sunday. The game took place at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, New York. The Jets looked as miserable as they have all season, Mark Sanchez got another chance to start and wasn’t very good once again. Tim Tebow didn’t play at all and he will be gone very shortly I suspect.
Sanchez was 17-35 for 205 yards, no touchdowns an an interception. Shonn Greene led the rushing attack with 74 yards on 19 attempts. Bilal Powell had 56 yards on 12 carries, Lex Hilliard had two yards on a carry and Joe McKnight had two yards on a carry.

Jeremy Kerley had three receptions for 88 yards, Braylon Edwards had four receptions for 42 yards and Jeff Cumberland had three receptions for 36 yards. Jordan White had one reception for 13 yards, Powell had two for 12 yards and Hilliard had one for seven yards. Konrad Reuland had one reception for four yards and Greene had two for three yards.

Ryan Fitzpatrick was 12-26 for 225 yards and a touchdown. C.J. Spiller led the Bills rushing attack with 59 yards on 24 carries. Tashard Choice had five rushes for 30 yards and a touchdown and Brad Smith had two for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Stevie Johnson led the receivers with six catches for 111 yards, Spiller had two for 72 yards and a touchdown and Smith had two for 26 yards. Ruvell Martin had one reception for 11 yards and T.J. Graham had one for five yards.

Rian Lindell was 0-2 on field goals and made four extra points. Smith had three kickoff returns for an average of 26.7 yards and Justin Rogers had one for 27 yards. Shawn Powell had five punts for an average of 39.2 yards with 51 being the long.

Bryan Scott had an interception and Nick Barnett led the defense with six tackles and five assists. Spencer Johnson had a sack.

The Jets finished their season at 6-10 and the Bills had the same record. The Jets are going to make some changes and now we await the fates of the coaches and the General manager. It looks like the head coach will stay with everyone else going. It should be an interesting offseason as they try to trade Sanchez and they get rid of Tebow. I expect Tebow to land in Jacksonville where he will be the starter and restart his career and probably end up doing well.

The New York Giants finish strong but miss the playoffs

The New York Giants defeated the Philadelphia Eagles by the score of 42-7 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Giants came onto the field knowing that they needed to win and three other teams had to lose for them to earn a trip to the postseason and try to defend their title. They knew they couldn’t control what happened elsewhere but they made sure to take care of their own business. They had a dominating performance that left you wondering where they had been for the last couple of weeks.
Eli Manning was 13-21 for 208 yards and five touchdowns. David Carr was 1-1 for 15 yards, Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 107 yards on 16 carries and David Wilson rushed for 75 yards on 15 carries. Bradshaw also had a touchdown, Jerrel Jernigan had one carry for six yards.

Lawrence Tynes didn’t attempt a field goal but was 6-6 on extra points. Wilson had one kickoff return for 29 yards and Steve Weatherford had two punts with an average of 49 yards. Stevie Brown had an interception and Chase Blackburn led the defense with six tackles and an assist. Brown had six tackles plus the interception. Justin Tuck had a sack.

Michael Vick was 19-35 for 197 yards and a touchdown with an interception. Trent Edwards was 2-2 for 14 yards. LeSean McCoy had 10 rushes for 45 yards, Vick had five for 25 yards and Bryce Brown had eight rushes for 18 yards. Dion Lewis had three rushes for 15 yards and Damaris Johnson had one rush for seven yards.

McCoy had five receptions for 61 yards, Brent Celek had three receptions for 43 yards and Jason Avant had four receptions for 39 yards. Jeremy Maclin had four receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown, Riley Cooper had three for 32 yards and Johnson had one for eight yards. Brown had one for six yards.

Alex Henery was 0-1 on field goals and he did make an extra point. Brandon Boykin had three kickoff returns for an average of 28 yards and Brown had one for 16 yards. Mat McBriar had four punts for an average of 40.3 yards.

Colt Anderson led the defense with nine tackles and one assist. Phillip Hunt had a sack.

The Giants finished their season 9-7 which was the same record as last year when they won the Super Bowl. They have no one to blame but themselves though as they had a two game division lead with five games to go and blew it. They also in the last couple of weeks when they lost had destiny in their own hands. The Eagles finished out a terrible season going 4-12 and ending an era as Andy Reid will be fired as head coach.

The New York Giants are embarrassed in Atlanta

The New York Giants lost to the Atlanta Falcons by the score of 34-0 on Sunday afternoon. There was nothing good at all you could say about this game for the Giants. It took place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. Eli Manning had a terrible game and you could say so did coach Tom Coughlin.
Manning was 13-25 for 161 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. David Wilson led the rushing attack with 12 rushes for 55 yards and Kregg Lumpkin had nine rushes for 42 yards.

Domenick Hixon had five receptions for 80 yards to lead the receivers. Hakeem Nicks had three receptions for 40 yards, Victor Cruz had three receptions for 15 yards and Martellus Bennett had one reception for 15 yards. Wilson had one reception for 11 yards.

Matt Bryant was 2-2 on field goals with 38 being his long and 4-4 on extra points.

Asante Samuel and Thomas Decoud each had an interception. Sean Weatherspoon led the Falcons defense with six tackles and three assists. Kroy Biermann had a sack.

The Giants are now 8-6 on the season and in a three way tie for first place in the NFC East. The Redskins hold the tie breaker and are technically the first place team. The Giants if they win their last two games will be in the playoffs and they will see how the seeding unfolds. They still have destiny in their own hands, they play at Baltimore and then home against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Atlanta Falcons are having a great season and improved to 12-2.

The New York Giants roll past the New Orleans Saints

The New York Giants special teams did some heavy lifting on Sunday evening. The Giants were able to beat the New Orleans Saints by the score of 52-27, rookie David Wilson set a Giants rookie record for most all purpose yards ever. The Giants rookie had a 97 yard kick return for a touchdown and a couple of other long ones which really set up the Giants field position all day.

New York Jets win a lousy game over the Arizona Cardinals

The New York Jets defeated the Arizona Cardinals by the score of 7-6 on Sunday evening. The game took place at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It was a terrible offensive game for both sides. Mark Sanchez was so bad that he was finally benched, not for Tim Tebow though. Tebow was inactive for the game with a couple of fractured ribs. Greg McElroy got his first action and led the Jets to victory.
Sanchez was 10-21 for 97 yards no touchdowns and he threw three interceptions. McElroy was 5-7 for 29 yards and a touchdown. Shonn Greene led the rushing attack with 24 carries for 104 yards, Bilal Powell had 12 rushes for 58 yards and Joe McKnight had two rushes for eight yards. William Gay had a sack for the Cardinals, Adrian Wilson, Sam Acho, Darnell Dockett and David Carter each had ½ a sack.

The Jets record improved to 5-7 and they kept their fading playoff hopes alive. The Cardinals record dropped to 4-8 as they will be playing out the string. The Jets next game will be Sunday afternoon at the Jacksonville Jaguars. The question now for the Jets will be who is their quarterback in that game. I would suspect Greg McElroy but could it be Tim Tebow and will any of the three quarterbacks not dress for the game?? We will have to see in the next couple of days if the Jets announce it.

The New York Giants win in dominating fashion over the Green Bay Packers

The New York Giants defeated the Green Bay Packers by the score of 38-10 on Sunday night. The Giants had a couple of pretty bad weeks and they hadn’t played a really good game in quite a while. The Giants brought their A game in this one and looked like the World Champions that they are. The Giants after giving up an early score to the Packers really shut them down. The Giants offense was really balanced with the passing and rushing and their wasn’t much to complain about at all.
Eli Manning was 16-30 for 249 yards and three touchdowns. Andre Brown led the rushing with 64 yards on 13 attempts with a touchdown, Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 58 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown. The New York Giants build a big lead, blow it and then hold on to win in Dallas

The New York Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys by the score of 29-24. The game was played at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The Giants jumped out to a 23-0 lead and looked like world beaters but then Dallas came back and in the third quarter they actually took the lead. The Giants though somehow kept their composure and stuck with it. The Giants have Eli Manning and he didn’t have a great game again but he is there when you need him the most. The Giants defense started out really strong but then they looked pretty awful after that.
Manning was 15-29 for 192 yards and no touchdowns with one interception. Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 78 yards on 22 attempts. Andre Brown rushed for 21 yards on three attempts and one touchdown, Manning rushed for three yards on one carry and David Wilson rushed twice for one yard. Wilson is the main kick and punt returner. He returned four kicks for 86 yards which is a 21.5 average. Wilson has brought something to the Giants they have really been lacking which is a true kick return threat. Ruben Randle had the most yards receiving with 68 on two receptions. Hakeem Nicks caught four balls for 46 yards, Martellus Bennett caught four balls for 29 yards and Domenick Hixon caught three passes for 26 yards. Victor Cruz caught two balls for 23 yards. Lawrence Tynes was 5-5 on field goals and two for two on extra points. His long field goal was 43 yards.

The Giants defense had four interceptions with Stevie Brown having two, Corey Webster and Jason Pierre-Paul each had one interception. Paul had one touchdown. Stevie Brown also led the defense with six tackles along with Keith Rivers who had six tackles.

Jason Witten led the receivers with 18 catches for 167 yards. Miles Austin had nine catches for 133 yards, Dez Bryant had five for 110 and John Phillips had three catches for 14 yards. Dan Bailey was 1-1 on field goals and three for three on extra points. His field goal was 51 yards. Dunbar returned six kicks for 142 yards which is an average of 23.7 yards.

The Cowboys had one interception and one fumble recovery. Brandon Carr was their leading tackler with five.

The Giants are in first place in the NFC East with a 6-2 record and the Cowboys are 3-4 and in third place in the NFC East. The Giants will play at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon.

The Jets go down to Philly and get manhandles by the Eagles

The New York Jets lost to the Philadelphia Eagles by the score of 45-19. This was a game that got really ugly and didn’t really change much from that. The Jets tried to stage a comeback with the help of some Philly turnovers but it wasn’t enough to overcome a huge first half deficit. The Eagles jumped out to a 28-0 lead. The Jets cut it to 28-13 at the half but that was as close as they would come.
Mark Sanchez of the Jets was 15-26 for 150 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Mark Brunell did get into the game late and was 1-3 for 27 yards. Shonn Greene was the leading rusher with 18 carries for 73 yards. LaDainian Tomlinson rushed three times for nine yards, John Conner once for seven yards and Sanchez two times for three yards. Joe McKnight rushed three times for two yards. Dustin Keller caught the ball three times for 73 yards, Santonio Holmes caught the ball four times for 40 yards and a touchdown and McKnight caught one pass for 27 yards. Plaxico Burress caught one ball for nine yards and one touchdown. Jeremy Kerley had two catches for 16 yards and Tomlinson caught four balls for 12 yards. Nick Folk was 2-2 on field goals and his long was 39 yards, he made an extra point.

Michael Vick was 15-22 for 274 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Eagles. LeSean McCoy rushed the ball 18 times for 102 yards and three touchdowns. McCoy broke the single season record for touchdowns by an Eagle. Vick rushed five times for 32 yards and a touchdown, Ronnie Brown rushed six times for 18 yards and Dion Lewis rushed the ball two times for 10 yards. Mike Kafka rushed the ball twice and got no yards. Brent Celek caught five passes for 156 yards and a touchdown, Jeremy Maclin caught three balls for 57 yards and DeSean Jackson caught two balls for 28 yards. Clay Harbor had two catches for 20 yards, Riley Cooper had one for 18 yards. Alex Henery made the only field goal he attempted from 28 yards and had six extra points.

David Harris had six tackles, an assist and a interception for the poor Jets defense. Muhammad Wilkerson had six tackles and a sack, Calvin Pace had six tackles and Marcus Dixon had a sack. The Jets defense was carved up. The Jets still right now are in the playoffs and control their own destiny. If they win out they will be in the postseason. The Jets will host the Giants on Saturday December 24th which is Christmas Eve. It should be an intense and entertaining game as both teams are fighting for their playoff lives and there is no love lost between either of the teams.

Giants and Jets both win

The New York Giants won big today over the Tampa Bay Bucs 24-0. Eli Manning was good and the Giants finally got their running game going with Brandon Jacobs getting 92 yards and Ahmad Bradshaw had 104. Steve Smith was the leading reciever once again with 7 catches for 63 yards. Mario Manningham had 4 catches for 55 yards and Kevin Boss had a couple of catches for 27 yards. Sinorice Moss had a catch for 18 yards and a touchdown and Travis Beckum the rookie tight end had a couple of catches for 8 yards. The Giants defense was dominant as they held Tampa Bay to 86 yards of total offense. The thought coming into this game was yes Tampa is not a very good team but that they could score points and the Giants just totally shut them down. The Giants will head to Kansas City to play the chiefs next week another team they should beat before returning home to play the Raiders. The New York Jets defeated the Tenesee Titans by the score of 24-17 today at the Meadowlands. The Jets have been very impressive going 3-0. Mark Sanchez continues to impress as well as their defense. Sanchez was 17 of 30 for 171 yards, 2 touchdowns and a interception. The Jets did not run the ball well at all as Leon Washington had 46 yards and Thomas Jones had 20. Cotchery was the leading reciever with 8 catches for 108 yards. I picked the Giants to win and the Jets to lose so I am 1-1 on the year with my picks and I am also going to win the Indianapolis game so I will be 2-1 in my first week of picks.

Football begins with a couple of victories

The New York Giants and New York Jets both opened their seasons with wins. The Jets defeated the Texans by the score of 24-7 and the Giants won by the score of 23-17. I will start with the Jets who saw Mark Sanchez had a impressive first game as a pro. He was 18 of 31 for 272 yards and 1 touchdown and a interception. Thomas Jones had 107 yards rushing and Leon Washington contributed 60 yards rushing, he also had 24 yards recieving. Dustin Keller had 94 yards recieving and Jerricho Cotchery had 90 yards recieving. Chansi Stuckey had 64 yards recieving. Rex Ryan is known for defense and the Jets defense just looked awesome. Joe Namath gave Sanchez a pregame pep talk and it seemed to work as there weren't many negatives, he really had a sparkling debut. The Giants score was closer then the game really was as Washington scored a late TD. The Giants defense was really good other then that, one of the touchdowns scored by the Redskins was on a fake FG and another FG was because Eli Manning threw a interception setting them up perfectly for at least a FG. Justin Tuck had a great game with 1 1/2 sacks and being all over the field. Osi Umineyora didn't have a great game but he did have one big play where he caused a fumble and ran it back 37 yards for a touchdown. Eli Manning had a pretty good game being 20 of 29 with 256 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Jacobs only had 46 rushing yards, Ahmad Bradshaw had 60 rushing. The Giants spread out their passing attack, Steve Smith had 6 catches for 80 yards, Kevin Boss had 3 catches for 62 yards and Mario Manningham had 3 catches for 58 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was the first of his career. Hakeem Nicks had a couple of catches for 18 yards but left the game with a sprained ankle. Domenick Hixon only had 1 catch for 10 yards and Brandon Jacobs had 2 for 17 yards and Bradshaw had 3 for 11 yards. Lawrence Tynes was 3 for 3 in field goals. The Giants now will go on the road for 3 straight which will be difficult. The Jets will come home and face the Patriots.
