The New York Mets lose both games of a doubleheader and are no hit to the Washington Nationals



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon and Saturday night.  The final scores were 3-1 and 2-0 with the no hitter being in the second game and both games being played at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.  In game one Noah Syndergaard started and pitched well and Addison Reed out of the bullpen did not.  In game two Matt Harvey started and pitched very well and the bullpen was pretty good.  In game one the Mets managed five hits but no one had more than a hit and in game two they had no hits. 

Syndergaard pitched seven innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and ten strikeouts in game one.  Reed lost his third game pitching an inning and giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Jon Niese pitched an inning giving up a hit and drew a walk. 

Gio Gonzalez pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Blake Treinen pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout, Matt Grace pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Rafael Martin pitched to one batter striking him out and picking up his second win of the season.  Casey Janssen pitched one perfect inning with a strikeout and Felipe Rivero earned his second save of the season pitching a perfect inning and striking out the side. 

Juan Lagares had a hit and an RBI, David Wright drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and drew a walk, Lucas Duda drew a walk and Travis d'Arnaud had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit, Syndergaard drew a walk and d'Arnaud hit a double.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Cespedes was caught stealing and had an outfield assist.  Niese had a pickoff. 

Anthony Rendon drew a walk, Yunel Escobar drew a walk and Bryce Harper had a hit and two RBI.  Clint Robinson had two hits and an RBI, Matt den Dekker had a hit and drew a walk, den Dekker hit a double and Robinson and Harper each hit a homerun.  The Nationals were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  den Dekker was picked off, Jose Lobaton committed an error. 

All the runs were scored in the seventh and eighth.  The Nats took a 1-0 lead and the Mets answered back with one in the seventh before the Nationals scored two in the eighth to take the lead and hold on for the win. 

In the second game Harvey pitched six innings giving up four hits and an unearned run with no walks and 11 strikeouts and he lost his eighth game of the season.  Hansel Robles pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts, Erik Goeddel pitched a perfect inning and struck out the side and Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Max Scherzer picked up his 14th win of the season pitching a complete game shutout and a no hitter.  It was his second no hitter of the season and first time since Nolan Ryan in 1973 that someone did it twice in the same season. 

Trea Turner had a hit in game two, Robinson had a hit and Wilson Ramos had an RBI.  Wilmer Difo had a hit, Dan Uggla had a hit and an RBI.  Scherzer had a hit, Uggla hit a homerun and the Nationals were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Escobar committed an error. 

The Mets had no hits, RBI or walks.  Scherzer only missed a perfect game because of an error on his third baseman. 

The runs were scored sixth and seventh innings.  The Mets will play the final regular season game on Sunday afternoon.  If the Dodgers win they clinch the home field with that series starting in L.A. on Friday night. 

The New York Yankees lose both games of a doubleheader in Baltimore



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday afternoon and Saturday night.  The game one score was 9-2 and game two was 4-3 Baltimore with both games taking place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.  In game one Ivan Nova started and didn't pitch very well and the Yankees stranded too many runners in game two Luis Severino pitched well, Dellin Betances gave up a soft run in the eighth and the offense didn't get a big hit when they needed it.  The Yankees could have clinched home field advantage for the wild card game with just one win and now they need to play tomorrow because it will matter  unless Houston loses but as of this writing they are winning. 

Ivan Nova pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and five runs with three walks and four strikeouts and he took his 11th loss of the season.  Chasen Shreve pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk, Nick Goody pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and Chris Martin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

In game two Severino pitched seven innings giving up three runs on five hits.  He walked none and struck out six and Betances pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and three strikeouts and took his fourth loss of the season. 

Wei-Yin Chen started game one for the Orioles and pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts and picked up his 11th win of the season.  Brad Brach pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Mychal Givens pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two batters and Oliver Drake pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

In game two Ubaldo Jimenez started and pitched six innings giving up five hits and three runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.  T.J. McFarland won his second game of the season pitching two perfect innings with a strikeout and Zach Britton saved his 36th game of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit. 

Nick Reimold had two hits and drew a walk in game one.  Gerardo Parra had four  hits and three RBI, Manny Machado had two hits and three RBI and Chris Davis had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Matt Wieters had a hit and drew four walks, Steve Clevenger had a hit, J.J. Hardy had three hits and Davis hit a double and Parra hit two doubles.  Machado hit a homerun and the Orioles were 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Parra had a stolen base and Chen committed an error, Pearce had an outfield assist.

In game two Reimold had a hit and an RBI, Parra had two hits and Machado had a hit and an RBI.  Davis drew a walk, Pearce had a hit and an RBI and Paul Janish had two hits.   Pearce and Janish each hit a double and Reimold and Machado each hit a homerun.  the Orioles were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Parra had a stolen base and was caught stealing.  Britton had a pick off. 

In the first game the Orioles scored single runs in the first, third and fifth and then scored four in the sixth before the Yankees scored their only two runs in the seventh.  The Orioles answered right back in the seventh with two and that was the game.  In game two Baltimore jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and the Yankees answerd back with one in the second and the Orioles one in the third.  It was 3-1 Orioles and the Yankees tied it with two in the fifth before the Orioles got one in the eighth to go ahead and hold on to the 4-3 victory.  The Yankees now have one game left in the regular season needing a win if Houston wins tonight to secure home field advantage for the wild card game to take place on Tuesday night.  Michael Pineda will start and I would guess and hope that the Yankees will play their regular lineup trying to lock up home field.

The New York Mets lose a tight one in Philadelphia



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 4-3.  Bartolo Colon started and he pitched ok and the Mets offense was led by Lucas Duda who had three hits and three RBI. 

Colon pitched five innings giving up eight hits and three runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Colon lost his 13th game of the season.  Jon Niese pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout, Erik Goeddel pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Carlos Torres pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

David Buchanan pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Adam Loewen pitched to one batter and he struck him out and picked up his first win of the season.  Dalier Hinojosa pitched one inning giving up a hit and a walk, Hector Neris pitched an inning giving up a hit and Luis Garcia pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout.  Ken Giles saved his 14th game pitching an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and he struck out two. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and drew two walks and Daniel Murphy had a hit.  Duda had three hits and three RBI, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit.  Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk, Kelly Johnson drew a walk and Conforto and Johnson each hit a double.  Duda hit two homeruns and the Mets were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

Freddy Galvis had a hit, Odubel Herrera had four hits and Aaron Altherr had two hits and an RBI.  Darin Ruf had a hit and three RBI, Cody Asche had a hit and Darnell Sweeney had a hit.  Cameron Rupp had a hit, Loewen had a hit and Ruf hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Rupp was caught stealing.  Bogusevic committed an error. 

In the first Ruf hit a three run homerun to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead.  Duda hit a solo homerun in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Altherr hit an RBI single to make it 4-1 Phillies.  Duda hit a two run homerun in the ninth to cut the lead to 4-3 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play the second game of three on Wednesday night. 

The New York Yankees lose second straight to the Boston Red Sox



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 10-4.  Michael Pineda started and had a terrible first inning before settling down but it was too late.  The Yankees offense had a great first inning and then didn't do much of anything after that. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Pineda lost his ninth game of the season.  Bryan Mitchell pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Chris Martin pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk. 

Rick Porcello won his ninth game of the season pitching eight innings and giving up six hits and four runs with a walk and eight strikeouts.  Jean Machi pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Brett Gardner had two hits and Brian McCann had an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI, Dustin Ackley had a hit and two RBI and Chase Headley had a hit.  Greg Bird had a hit, Didi Gregorius drew a walk and Ellsbury hit a double and Beltran hit a double.  Ackley hit a homerun adn the Yankees were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base and Ackley committed an error. 

Mookie Betts had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Dustin Pedroia had two hits and Xander Bogaerts had a hit and an RBI.  David Ortiz had a hit, Josh Rutledge drew a walk and Travis Shaw had an RBI.  Brock Holt had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Blake Swihart had two hits and five RBI and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits.  Betts, Ortiz, Holt and Bradley Jr. each hit a double and Swihart hit two homeruns.  Betts also hit a homerun and the Red Sox were 4-10 with runners in scoring position an dleft four men on base.  Bogaerts committed an error. 

In the first Bogaerts grounded into a force out and a run scored.  Shaw reached on a fielder's choice and  a run scored to make it 2-0, Holt hit an RBI double to make it 3-0 and Swihart hit a three run homerun and the Red Sox had a 6-0 lead before the Yankees even got up to bat.  In the Yankees first McCann hit an RBI groundout, Beltran hit an RBI double and Ackley hit a two run homerun and it was 6-4 Red Sox.  In the fifth Betts hit a solo homerun to make it 7-4.  In the eighth Swihart hit a two run homerun to make it 9-4 Red Sox and in the ninth Rutledge grounded into a force out to make it 10-4 which would be the final score.  The two teams will play game three of four on Wednesday night.   

The New York Yankees lose to the Boston Red Sox and will have to wait to clinch a postseason spot



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-1 Red Sox.  Ivan Nova started and pitched good for five innings and then gave up a couple of homeruns in the sixth and seventh.  John Ryan Murphy had two hits and although the offense had lots of guys on base they didn't do anything with it. 

Nova pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and four runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Nova lost his 10th game of the season.  Andrew Bailey pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Chris Capuano pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out two and Caleb Cotham pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run.  James Pazos walked his only batter and Nick Rumbelow pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Eduardo Rodriguez won his 10th game of the season pitching six innings and giving up seven hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Heath Hembree pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Noe Ramirez pitched 2/3 of an inning and Matt Barnes pitched a perfect inning.  Robbie Ross Jr. pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and Alex Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI.  Carlos Beltran had a hit, Chase Headley had a hit and Greg Bird had a hit.  Murphy had two hits, Didi Gregorius drew a walk and Rob Refsnyder had a hit.  Ellsbury and Murphy each hit a double and the Yankees were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base. 

Mookie Betts had two hits, Dustin Pedroia drew a walk and Xander Bogaerts had two hits.  Travis Shaw had three hits and two RBI, Blake Swihart had a hit and Deven Marrero had a hit and an RBI.  Jackie Bradley Jr. had a hit, two RBI and drew two walks.  Betts hit two doubles, Bogaerts hit a double and Shaw, Bradley and Marrero each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bogaerts was caught stealing and Pedroia committed an error. 

In the first Rodriguez hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Shaw hit a two run homerun to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.  In the seventh Bradley Jr. hit a two run homerun to extend the Red Sox lead to 4-1 and in the ninth Marrero hit a solo homerun to make it 5-1 which would be the final score.

The New York Mets win third straight over the Cincinnati Reds



The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio and the final score was 10-2 Mets.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy each had a couple of hits to lead the offense and the Mets clinched the NL East title. 

Harvey pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up nine htis and two runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  He won his 13th game of the season.  Addison Reed pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one. 

John Lamb pitched two innings giving up three hits and five runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Lamb lost his fourth game of the season.  Carlos Contreras pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with three walks and two strikeouts, Collin Balester pitched three innings giving up two walks and two strikeouts and Ryan Mattheus pitched a perfect inning.  Burke Badenhop pitched an inning giving up five hits and three runs. 

Granderson had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, David Wright had a hit and three RBI with two walks and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit.  Murphy had two hits and drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud had a hit and drew a walk and Lucas Duda had a hit, four RBI and drew two walks.  Michael Cuddyer had a hit and two RBI, Kelly Johnson had a hit and Cuddyer and Murphy each hit a double.  Duda, Granderson and Wright each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 4-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Wright committed an error. 

In the first Duda hit a grand slam to make it 4-0 Mets.  In the second Granderson hit a solo homerun to make it 5-0 Mets.  In the second De Jesus hit a two run double to cut the lead to 5-2 Mets.  In the third Cuddyer hit a two run double to push the lead to 7-2.  In the ninth Wright hit a three run homerun and it was 10-2 Mets which would be the final score.  The Mets will look for the four game sweep on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.  The game took place at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio and the final score was 12-5.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched very well.  The bullpen wasn't as good and a bunch of guys had two hits for the offense including the pitcher. 

Syndergaard pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked none and struck out 11.  Syndergaard won his 11th game of the season.  Eric O'Flaherty pitched giving up a hit and a run without recording an out, Bobby Parnell pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout and Tim Stauffer pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  Hansel Robles pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Anthony DeSclafani pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and seven runs with five of them being earned.  He didn't walk a batter and he struck out three and lost his 12th game of the season.  Tony Cingrani pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a strikeout, J.J. Hoover pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with two strikeouts and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning walking one and striking out one. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits and four RBI, David Wright had two hits and Daniel Murphy had two hits and an RBI.  Yoenis Cespedes had two hits, Juan Lagares drew a walk and Lucas Duda had two hits and six RBI.  Michael Conforto had two hits, Syndergaard had two hits and an RBI and Conforto, Murphy and Granderson each hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and Duda hit two homeruns.  The Mets were 8-11 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Jason Bourgeois had three hits, Joey Votto had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Brandon Phillips had a hit.  Ivan De Jesus had a hit and two RBI, Skip Schumaker had a hit and Eugenio Suarez had a hit.  Adam Duvall had a hit and an RBI, Ramon Cabrera had a hit and Brennan Boesch had a hit and an RBI.  Bourgeois hit a double and Boesch and Duvall each hit a homerun.  The Reds were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Frazier committed an error. 

 Syndergaard hit an RBI single in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Duda hit a three run homerun to make it 4-0.  Granderson hit an RBI double in the seventh and it was 5-0 Mets.  Murphy  hit an RBI single and Duda hit a three run homerun to make it 9-0 Mets.  Granderson hit a three run homerun in the eighth to make it 12-0 Mets. In the eighth Boesch hit a solo homerun, Votto hit an RBI single, De Jesus hit a two run single and Duvall hit a solo homerun to make it 12-5 Mets.  The two teams will finish their series on Sunday afternoon.
