The New York Yankees start off a long road trip with a win in Minnesota



The New York Yankees defeated the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night.  The game took place at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the final score was 7-4 Yankees.  Masahiro Tanaka started and didn't pitch his best but was still able to secure his league leading 12th win of the season.  The Yankees bats broke out in a big way including Zelous Wheeler having his first two career hits including his first career homerun.  Carlos Beltran had a big three run homerun. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up four runs on nine hits.  He didn't walk a batter and struck out three.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and David Robertson picked up his 19th save of the season pitching a scoreless inning and giving up a walk.  He struck out the side. 

Phil Hughes lost his fifth game of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up eight hits and seven runs.  He walked one and struck out six.  Brian Duensing pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Anthony Swarzak pitched two innings giving up one hit and striking out two. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Derek Jeter had an RBI and Mark Teixeira had two hits.  Brian McCann had a hit, Beltran had a hit and three RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and drew a walk.  Wheeler had two hits and an RBI and Brendan Ryan had a hit and an RBI.  Ryan hit a double and Beltran and Wheeler each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-4 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.  Suzuki had an outfield assist. 

Brian Dozier had two hits, Kurt Suzuki had a hit and an RBI and Chris Parmelee had a hit and an RBI.  Kendrys Morales had an RBI, Oswaldo Arcia had a hit and drew a walk and Trevor Plouffe had a hit.  Eduardo Escobar had a hit and an RBI, Sam Fuld had two hits.  Parmelee, Suzuki, Plouffe each hit a double and the Twins were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

Parmelee hit an RBI double in the first to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.   In the third Suzuki hit an RBI groundout to give the Twins a 2-0 lead.  The Yankees came roaring back in the fifth with a three run homerun by Beltran and a solo homerun by Wheeler to take a 4-2 lead.  The Twins cut it to a one run game in the sixth on a Morales RBI groundout.  The Yankees took control of the game in the seventh with three runs to take a 7-3 lead.  Ryan hit an RBI double, Gardner an RBI single and Jeter an RBI groundout.  The Twins would score one more run in the seventh.  Escobar hit an RBI single but the final score would be 7-4 Yankees.  The two teams will play game two of their four game series on Friday afternoon. 

The New York Mets lose to the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 3-1.  Jake deGrom started for the Mets and pitched ok and the bullpen was good.  Eric Young Jr. and Juan Lagares each had two hits and that was the Mets offense. 

deGrom pitched five innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He suffered his fifth loss of the season.  Vic Black pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a strikeout and Josh Edgin pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and a strikeout.  Jennry Mejia pitched to one batter and retired him. 

Julio Teheran pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  He won his eighth game of the season.  Anthony Varvaro pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one and Jordan Walden saved his third game of the season.  Walden pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Young Jr. and Lagares each had two hits and Curtis Granderson had an RBI and drew a walk.  Daniel Murphy drew a walk, Eric Campbell had a hit and Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Young Jr. had a stolen base and was caught stealing. 

B.J. Upton had a hit, Andrelton Simmons had two hits and drew a walk and Freddie Freeman had a hit and drew a walk.  Jason Heyward had a hit, Chris Johnson had two hits and three RBI and La Stella drew a walk.  Teheran had a hit, Johnson hit a double and the Braves were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Simmons had a stolen base and Teheran had a pickoff. 

In the first Johnson hit a three run double to give the Braves a 3-0 lead.  The Mets would score their only run in the fourth inning.  Granderson hit a sacrifice fly and that would be all the scoring in the game as the Braves won 3-1.  The Mets will have the day off on Thursday and then begin a homestand on Friday night against the Texas Rangers.

The New York Yankees are swept at home by the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Vidal Nuno started and was ok, not great and didn't last that long.  The offense put a lot of hits together but couldn't get the big hits to knock in more runs. 

Nuno pitched five innings giving up three earned runs on eight hits.  He gave up four total runs with two walks and five strikeouts and he lost his fifth start of the season.  Shawn Kelley pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts, Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout and David Huff pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up an unearned run and two walks with a strikeout. 

Jake Odorizzi pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and three runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He picked up his fourth win of the season.  Cesar Ramos pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Oviedo pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and Joel Peralta pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.  Brad Boxberger picked up his first save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had three hits and two RBI, Brian McCann had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had two hits.  Alfonso Soriano had a hit, Ichiro Suzuki drew a walk and Brian Roberts had two hits.  Roberts hit a double, Gardner and McCann each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Solarte committed an error and McCann had a passed ball , Soriano and Gardner each had an outfield assist and Huff had a pickoff. 

Desmond Jennings had two hits and drew a walk, Ben Zobrist had three hits and Brandon Guyer had a hit and an RBI.  Evan Longoria drew two walks, James Loney had a hit and an RBI and Logan Forsythe had two hits.  Sean Rodriguez had two hits and three RBI, Hanigan drew two walks and Zobrist hit two doubles.  Forsythe hit a double and Rodriguez hit a homerun, the Rays were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Kiermaier was picked off. 

Gardner hit a solo homerun in the first to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  The Rays tied the game at one in the third on a passed ball.  McCann hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  The Rays would tie the game at two in the fourth.  In the bottom of the fourth Gardner hit an RBI single to give the Yankees back the lead at 3-2.  In the fifth the Rays tied the score on a Guyer RBI single.  The Rays would take the lead for good in the sixth on a Rodriguez two run homerun.  It was 5-3 Rays and they would add a run in the ninth on a Loney RBI groundout.  The Rays swept the three game series, the Yankees have lost five in a row overall and were 1-5 on their six game homestand.  They dropped to below 500 for the first time since the beginning of the season.  The Yankees will begin an 11 game road trip on Thursday in Minnesota.

The New York Yankees lose fourth in a row to drop to 500



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  Hiroki Kuroda started for the Yankees and pitched very well, their offense as has been the norm this season didn't do much at all. 

Kuroda pitched eight innings giving up nine hits and two runs with a walk and seven strikeouts and lost his sixth game of the season.  David Huff pitched an inning striking out two. 

David Price won his seventh game of the season pitching four hits and a run with three walks and nine strikeouts.  Jake McGee pitched an inning with a strikeout, Grant Balfour pitched an inning walking two and striking out one and saving his 11th game of the season. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Derek Jeter had two hits and Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit.  Mark Teixeira drew a walk, Carlos Beltran drew a walk.  Kelly Johnson drew a walk and Yangervis Solarte had a hit and drew a walk.  Jeter hit a double and the Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury and Jeter each had a stolen base. 

Desmond Jennings had two hits, Ben Zobrist drew a walk and Matt Joyce had a hit.  Evan Longoria had two hits, James Loney had two hits and an RBI and Logan Forsythe had two hits and an RBI.  Jennings hit a double and Loney hit a homerun.  The Rays were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Zobrist committed an error. 

In the fourth Forsythe hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees tied the game in the fourth on a throwing error.  The Rays took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on a Loney solo homerun and that would be the final score.  The Yankees have now lost four in a row and will try and avoid the sweep on Wednesday afternoon.

The New York Yankees lose in extra innings to the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3 in 12 innings.  David Phelps started and pitched well and the bullpen did a good job.  The offense struggled but Brian Roberts hit a big game tying homerun in the ninth. 

Phelps pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up two runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up one hit and two walks with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and two walks and David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out one.  Shawn Kelley pitched two innings giving up two hits and striking out two and Jose Ramirez took the loss, his second of the season.  He pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk. 

Chris Archer pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Jake McGee pitched an inning giving up two hits and striking out one, Joel Peralta pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and Grant Balfour pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two.  Brad Boxberger won his first game pitching two innings with a strikeout.

Desmond Jennings drew two walks, Ben Zobrist drew three walks and Matt Joyce had a hit and an RBI.  Evan Longoria had a hit, James Loney had a hit and Brandon Guyer drew two walks.  Logan Forsythe had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Ryan Hanigan had a hit and an RBI.  Kevin Kiermaier had three hits and an RBI, him and Joyce each hit a homerun.  The Rays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Brandon Guyer had two stolen bases  and Jennings was caught stealing twice. 

Joyce homered in the first to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  Kiermaier hit a solo homerun in the third to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Gardner hit an RBI triple and Jeter hit an RBI groundout to tie the game at two.  In the eighth Hanigan hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Rays.  In the bottom of the ninth Roberts hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the 12th Forsythe hit an RBI single to give the Rays a 4-3 lead and that was the final score.

The New York Mets defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates



The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-3 Mets.  Jon Niese started and pitched well, the bullpen was really good and Eric Campbell led the offense with three hits. 

Niese pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs.  He walked three and struck out five and earned his fifth win of the season.  Jeurys Familia pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout and Jennry Mejia pitched a perfect inning to earn his eighth save of the season. 

Gerrit Cole pitched four innings giving up seven hits and five runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Cole lost his fourth game of the season.  Stolmy Pimentel pitched four innings giving up two hits and a walk.  He struck out seven, Ernesto Frieri pitched a perfect inning. 

Curtis Granderson drew a walk, Ruben Tejada had a hit and drew a walk and Daniel Murphy had a hit and two RBI.  Lucas Duda had a hit, Campbell had three hits and an RBI and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Anthony Recker had a hit, Eric Young Jr. had a hit and drew a walk, Campbell hit two doubles and Recker hit a double.  The Mets were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Young Jr. had three stolen bases, Granderson and Campbell had one each.  Niese committed an error.

Jordy Mercer had a hit, Andrew McCutchen had a hit and Gaby Sanchez had a hit.  Josh Harrison had two hits, Neil Walker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Pedro Alvarez had an RBI and drew a walk.  Chris Stewart had an RBI and drew a walk, Cole had a hit and McCutchen and Sanchez each hit a double.  The Pirates were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Campbell hit an RBI double, a wild pitch scored a run and Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.  In the second they took a 5-0 lead on a Murphy two run single.  The Pirates would crawl back into the game.  In the fourth Alvarez and Stewart each had an RBI walk.  In the fifth Walker hit an RBI single to make it 5-3 and that was the final score.  The two teams will play one more game of their four game series on Sunday afternoon.
