New York Yankees win rubber game over the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-1.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Aaron Judge had three hits and four players had two hits including Gary Sanchez who also had five RBI. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up four hits and one unearned run.  He walked two and struck out eight and earned his seventh win of the season.  Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Giovanny Gallegos pitched 2/3 of an inning with a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched 1/3 of an inning with two walks and two strikeouts. 

David Price lost his first game of the season pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and six runs.  He walked four and struck out four.  Fernando Abad pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and Brandon Workman pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had two hits and two RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Judge had three hits and drew a walk.  Matt Holliday drew three walks, Starlin Castro had two hits and two RBI and Sanchez had two hits, five RBI and drew a walk.  Didi Gregorius had two hits, Chase Headley had a hit and Sanchez hit two homeruns.  Gardner hit a homerun and the Yankees were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Headley committed an error and Sanchez had a passed ball. 

Mookie Betts had a hit, Xander Bogaerts had a hit and Mitch Moreland had a hit and drew a walk.  Hanley Ramirez had a hit and drew a walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. drew a walk and Jeff Rutledge drew a walk.  The Red Sox were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Betts was caught stealing. 

In the second Gardner hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Sanchez hit a three-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the fourth a passed ball cut the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Sanchez hit his second homerun which was a two-run homerun extending the lead to 6-1.  In the sixth Castro hit an RBI single and the lead was 7-1.  In the eighth Gardner hit a solo homerun and Castro hit an RBI ground out to make it 9-1.  The Yankees took two out of three in the series and will now play the Orioles three games beginning on Friday night in the Bronx.

New York Mets earn a split in Texas


The New York Mets defeated the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 4-3.  Zach Wheeler started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Jay Bruce led the offense with two hits and three RBI. 

Wheeler pitched seven innings giving up six hits and a run.  He walked three and struck out five.  Jery Blevins pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts and picked up his third win of the season and Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his ninth save of the season. 

Yu Darvish pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Dario Alvarez pitched 2/3 of an inning walking one and Matt Bush pitched an inning giving up a hit and a unearned run with two walks and two strikeouts and took his first loss of the season. 

Michael Conforto drew a walk, Bruce had two hits and three RBI and Lucas Duda had a hit.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, Curtis Granderson drew a walk and Travis d’Arnaud drew a walk.  Juan Lagares had a hit, Duda hit a double and Bruce hit two homeruns.  The Mets were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Granderson and Reyes each had a stolen base. 

Delino Deshields had two hits and drew a walk, Shin-Soo Choo drew a walk and Elvis Andrus had a hit.  Nomar Mazara had a hit and an RBI, Robinson Chirinos had a hit and two RBI and Roughned Odor had a hit.  Ryan Rua had a hit, Jared Hoying had a hit and drew a walk, Odor hit a double and Chirinos hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Odor committed an error. 

In the first Mazara hit into a force out and a run scored making it 1-0 Rangers.  In the fourth Bruce hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Bruce hit a solo homerun making it 3-1.  In the eighth Chirinos hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at three.  In the ninth Reyes reached on an error to give the Mets a 4-3 lead and that was the final score. 


New York Mets lose an offensive game to the Texas Rangers


The New York Mets were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas and the final score was 10-8.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and didn’t pitch well.  Juan Lagares had four hits and Asdrubal Cabrera and Wilmer Flores each had three hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched four innings giving up ten hits and eight runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  deGrom lost his third game of the season.  Josh Smoker pitched two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts, Neil Ramirez pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up two hits and he walked one and struck out two. 

Dillon Gee started for the Rangers and he pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs.  He walked four and struck out two.  Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits, Alex Claudio pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Matt Bush pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout.

Shin-Soo Choo had two hits, an RBI and drew two walks, Elvis Andrus had a hit and Nomar Mazara had four hits and two RBI.  Adrian Beltre had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Joey Gallo had a hit and two RBI and Jonathan Lucroy had a hit.  Roughned Odor had a hit, Jared Hoying had three hits and an RBI and Delino Deshields had two hits and an RBI.  Odor and Hoying each hit a double and Gallo and Mazara each hit a homerun.  The Rangers were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Deshields had a stolen base. 

In the first Duda hit an RBI single to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Beltre grounded into a force out to tie the game at one.  In the second Lagares hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the second Hoying hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at two.  DeShields hit a sac fly to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead.  In the third Cabrera hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  Walker hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 4-3 lead.  In the bottom of the third Gallo hit a two-run homerun giving the Rangers the lead at 5-4.  Choo drew an RBI walk in the fourth to push the lead to 6-4, Andrus grounded into a double play and the score was 7-4 Rangers.  Mazara hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 8-4.  In the bottom of the sixth Choo hit an RBI ground out and it was 9-4 Rangers.  Mazara hit an RBI single to make it 10-4.  In the eighth Bruce hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 10-5 and in the ninth Granderson hit a two-run homerun making it 10-7 and d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 10-8 but that was the final score. 

The two teams will finish their brief series on Wednesday night.   

New York Yankees shutout the Boston Red Sox behind a strong CC Sabathia


The New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 8-0.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched brilliantly.  Chris Carter led the offense with three hits and four RBI and Starlin Castro, Didi Gregorius and Chase Headley each had two hits. 

Sabathia pitched eight shutout innings giving up five hits.  He walked none and struck out five and won his seventh game of the season.  Jonathan Holder pitched a perfect inning. 

Rick Porcello started for the Red Sox and took his eighth loss of the season.  He pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five.  Blaine Boyer pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks drew a walk and Aaron Judge drew a walk.  Matt Holliday had a hit and an RBI, Castro had two hits and Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI.  Gregorius had two hits and an RBI, Headley had two hits and drew a walk and Carter had three hits and four RBI which could have been more if a catch had been ruled a homerun since the fan touched it before Betts caught it but those are the breaks.  Castro hit a triple and Gregorius and Carter each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base.

Chris Young had a hit, Xander Bogaerts had a hit and Sam Travis had a hit.  Josh Rutledge had two hits including a double and a triple.  The Red Sox were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Marrero and Rutledge each committed an error. 

In the third Gregorius hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Sanchez hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  Carter hit a three-run homerun and it was 5-0 Yankees.  In the seventh Holliday hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0 and in the eighth Carter hit an RBI single to make it 7-0.  Gardner hit an RBI single and it was 8-0 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Thursday night. 


New York Yankees rally falls short against the Boston Red Sox


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-4.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch well but Chad Green did out of the bullpen.  Aaron Judge, Aaron Hicks and Didi Gregorius each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched five innings giving up five hits and five runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Tanaka lost his sixth game of the season.  Tommy Layne pitched to one batter and walked him, Green pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and he struck out five and Chasen Shreve pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Drew Pomeranz started for the Red sox and he pitched five innings giving up six hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out seven and won his sixth game of the season.  Robby Scott pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run, Joe Kelly pitched an inning with a walk and he struck out one and Matt Barnes pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run.  Craig Kimbrel pitched 1 1/3 innings walking one and striking out five and he saved his 17th game of the season.

Mookie Betts had a hit, Andrew Benintendi had two hits and an RBI and Xander Bogaerts had an RBI and drew a walk.  Mitch Moreland had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Hanley Ramirez had a hit and an RBI and Jackie Bradley Jr.  had a hit.  Bradley Jr. hit a double and Moreland, Ramirez and Benintendi each hit a homerun.  The Red Sox were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Betts committed an error. 

In the first Bogaerts hit an RBI ground out to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.  In the second Gregorius hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the fourth Moreland hit a two-run homerun to give the Red Sox a 3-1 lead and one batter later Ramirez hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-1.  In the fifth Benintendi hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 5-1.  Carter hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-2.  In the sixth Gregorius grounded into a double play and a run scored to make it 5-3.  In the eighth Gregorius struck out but a wild pitch allowed him to reach base and a run to score making it a 5-4 game and that would be the final score.  

The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.

New York Mets are blown out by the PIttsburgh Pirates


The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 11-1.  Tyler Pill started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch well.  The Mets bullpen didn’t pitch well either and Michael Conforto, Jay Bruce and Wilmer Flores each had two hits. 

Pill took his second loss of the season pitching five innings and giving up eight hits and five runs with three of them being earned.  He walked none and struck out four.  Paul Sewald pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out one, Josh Edgin pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Neil Ramirez pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk.  Josh Smoker pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout. 

Trevor Williams started for the Pirates and he pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and a run.  He walked two and struck out three and earned his third win of the season.  Jhan Marinez pitched an inning with a walk and Tony Watson pitched a perfect inning. 

Conforto had two hits and drew a walk, Bruce had two hits and Neil Walker drew a walk.  Flores had two hits, Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew a walk and Conforto and Flores each hit a double.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Conforto committed two errors. 

Adam Frazier had two hits and two RBI, Josh Harrison had a hit and John Jaso had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  David Freese had three hits and three RBI, Josh Bell had an RBI and Andrew McCutchen had three hits and three RBI.  Jordy Mercer had a hit, Francisco Cervelli had three hits and drew a walk and Phil Gosselin had an RBI.  Frazier, Jaso and Cervelli each hit a double and McCutchen hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 6-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the first Freese hit an RBI single, Bell hit an RBI ground out and it was 2-0 Pirates.  In the second d’Arnaud grounded into a double play and a run scored cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the third Jaso hit an RBI double, Freese hit a sac fly and it was 4-1 Pirates.  In the fourth Frazier hit an RBI single extending the lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Freese hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 6-1 and in the eighth Gosselin hit into a force out and a run scored to make it 7-1.  Fraizer hit a sac fly extending the lead to 8-1.  In the ninth McCutchen hit a three-run homerun to make it 11-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will be off on Monday before heading to Texas to take on the Rangers in a two game set.   

New York Yankees blow lead and lose a tough one in Toronto


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 3-2.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The Yankees offense only managed six hits and no player had more than a hit. 

Severino pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Tyler Clippard pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout and he lost his third game of the season. 

Marcus Stroman pitched six innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Aaron Loup pitched an inning giving up a hit, Joe Smith won his second game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Roberto Osuna saved his 13th game of the season striking out the side in his one inning. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Gary Sanchez drew a walk and Aaron Judge had a hit.  Matt Holliday had a hit and two RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit, Holliday hit a double and the Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Headley and Judge each had a stolen base and Gregorius was caught stealing. 

Kevin Pillar had a hit and drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had a hit and an RBI and Kendrys Morales had two hits.  Justin Smoak had a hit and two RBI, Devon Travis had a hit and Luke Maile had a hit.  Morales hit a double and Smoak and Donaldson each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Pillar had a stolen base and Maile committed an error. 

In the fourth Holliday hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Holliday hit an RBI ground out to make it 2-0 Yankees.  In the bottom of the sixth Smoak hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two and in the eighth Donaldson hit a solo homerun to give the Jays a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams split the four-game series and the Yankees will be off on Monday.  They will return home to take on the Red Sox in a three-game series beginning on Tuesday night.   

New York Mets defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates


The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Robert Gsellman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen also pitched well and Neil Walker and Lucas Duda each had two hits to lead the offense. 

Gsellman pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs.  He walked two and struck out six and won his fourth game of the season.  Fernando Salas pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Addison Reed pitched two innings giving up two hits and he walked one and earned his eighth save of the season. 

Tyler Glasnow pitched five innings giving up five hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out five and took his fifth loss of the season.  Johnny Barbato pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Wade LeBlanc pitched a perfect inning.

In the first Walker hit a two-run homerun to make it 2-0 Mets.  In the second Bell hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the third Polanco hit an RBI ground out to tie the game at two.  Bruce hit a solo homerun in the third to give the Mets a 3-2 lead and in the fourth Flores hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-2 which would be the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two games and will play the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.

New York Yankees ride the long ball and strong pitching to a victory in Toronto


The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 7-0.  Jordan Montgomery made the start for the Yankees and he was very good.  The Yankees offense had four homeruns which were all hit in the eighth inning. 

Montgomery pitched six shutout innings giving up three hits.  He walked three and struck out five and won his third game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched an inning with a walk and he struck out two, Tyler Clippard pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout. 

Joe Biagini pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out six and lost his fourth game of the season.  Jason Grilli pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up four hits and four runs with a strikeout, J.P. Howell pitched to one batter retiring him and Danny Barnes pitched an inning with a strikeout.

Kevin Pillar had a hit, Josh Donaldson drew a walk and Justin Smoak drew a walk.  Troy Tulowitzki drew two walks, Ezequiel Carrera drew a walk and Luke Maile had two hits.  The Blue Jays were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Carrera had a stolen base and Tulowitzki committed an error. 

In the third Hicks hit an RBI double and Judge hit an RBI double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the seventh Gregorius hit an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the eighth Gardner hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 4-0 and then Holliday, Castro and Gregorius went back-to-back-to-back to make it a 7-0 game and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday afternoon.  The Yankees have won two of the first three but have a final game in Toronto and then a day off Monday before returning home on Tuesday to face the Boston Red Sox.
