The New York Yankees defeated the
Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. The
game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was
4-1. Sonny Gray pitched very well and
the bullpen finished it off. Brett
Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Austin Romine and Gleyber Torres each had two hits to
lead the offense.
Gray pitched six innings giving up
four hits and a run with no walks and six strikeouts and he won his fourth game
of the season. Chad Green pitched an
inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched
an inning with two walks and a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman saved his 13th
game of the season pitching a perfect inning with three strikeouts.
Andrew Cashner lost his seventh
game of the season pitching six innings giving up nine hits and three runs with
a walk and four strikeouts. Tanner Scott
pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts, Richard
Bleier pitched an inning giving up two hits and Mike Wright Jr. pitched an
inning with a strikeout.
Gardner had two hits, Aaron Judge
had a hit and an RBI and Greg Bird had a hit and an RBI. Didi Gregorius had a hit, Hicks had two hits
and Neil Walker had a hit. Romine had
two hits, an RBI an drew a walk, Torres had two hits and an RBI and Hicks hit
two doubles. Torres and Romine each hit
a double and Bird hit a triple. Judge
hit a homerun. The Yankees were 4-16
with runners in scoring position with eight men left on base. Gardner and Gregorius each had a stolen
base.
Adam Jones drew a walk, Manny
Machado had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Mark Trumbo had a hit. Jonathan Schoop had a hit, Trey Mancini had a
hit and Chance Sisco drew a walk. Schoop
and Mancini each hit a double and Machado hit a homerun. The Orioles were 0-6 with runners in scoring
position and left eight men on base.
Mancini had an outfield assist.
In the first Machado hit a solo
homerun to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead.
In the third Torres hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. In the fifth Bird hit an RBI triple to give
the Yankees a 2-1 lead. In the sixth
Romine hti an RBI double to push the lead to 3-1 and in the seventh Judge hit a
solo homerun to extend the lead to 4-1.
The final score was 4-1.
The two teams will try and play
game two of three on Saturday afternoon.
The first game of the series was rained out and there is rain in the forecast
for the next two days as well.
