New York Yankees winning streak ends in loss to the Detroit Tigers



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched ok but he gave up two homeruns that cost him.  The Yankees offense couldn't get much going against Justin Verlander but Rob Refsnyder did have two hits. 

Tanaka pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and five runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  He lost his second game of the season.  Kirby Yates pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run, Nick Goody pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out the side and Richard Bleier pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Verlander won his sixth game of the season pitching 6 2/3 innings and giving up five hits and a run with a walk and five strikeouts.  Shane Greene pitched 2/3 of an inning with two strikeouts, Justin Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning and Alex Wilson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two walks.  Francisco Rodriguez pitched 1/3 of an inning and earned his 18th save of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and Brian McCann drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and drew a walk and Chase Headley had a hit.  Refsnyder had two hits and an RBI, Gregorius hit a double and Headley hit a triple.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Ian Kinsler had two hits and five RBI, Victor Martinez drew a walk and J.D. Martinez had two hits.  Nick Castellanos had a hit and an RBI, Justin Upton had a hit and James McCann had two hits.  Jose Iglesias had two hits, Kinsler hit a double and Castellanos and Kinsler each hit a homerun.  The Tigers were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Upton had a stolen base and Iglesias committed an error. 

In the second Castellanos hit a solo homerun to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.  The Yankees would tie the game at one in the third on a Refsnyder RBI single.  In the fifth Kinsler hit a three run homerun to give the Tigers back the lead at 4-1.  Kinsler hit a two run double in the sixth to extend the Tigers lead to 6-1 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams have split the first two games and the rubber game will be played on Sunday.  The Yankees will try to finish the home stand on a high note going 6-1 before they head to Colorado and Minnesota next week.   

The New York Yankees win their fifth straight in victory over the Detroit Tigers



The New York Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-0.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and pitched great.  Carlos Beltran and Didi Gregorius each had two hits to lead their offense. 

Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up five hits and no runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  Sabathia earned his fourth win of the year.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Anthony Swarzak pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Mike Pelfrey started for the Tigers and pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up six hits and four runs with three of them being earned.  He walked five and struck out two and lost his sixth game of the season.  Blaine Hardy pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk, Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk and Beltran had two hits and an RBI.  Alex Rodriguez drew a walk, Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Gregorius had two hits and two RBI, Chase Headley drew a walk and Gregorius hit a double.  The Yankees were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Sabathia committed an error.

Martinez had two hits and drew a walk, Justin Upton drew a walk and Jose Iglesias had a hit.  The Tigers were 0-6 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  McCann committed an error and Upton had an outfield assist. 

In the first B. McCann had an RBI walk and Gregorius hit a two run double to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.  In the third Beltran hit an RBI single to extend the Yankees lead to 4-0 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have won five straight games and will look for their sixth straight on Saturday night and to take the series against Detroit.  They will finish the series and homestand with Old Timers Day on Sunday afternoon.   

The New York Mets take first game of series in Milwaukee



The New York Mets defeated the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night.  The game took place at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the final score was 5-2.  Bartolo Colon started and pitched well for the Mets and Wilmer Flores had three hits to lead the Mets 13 hit attack. 

Colon pitched seven innings giving up eight hits and a run with no walks and a couple of strikeouts.  He earned his fifth win of the season.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning striking out two.  Familia saved his 20th game of the season. 

Jimmy Nelson lost his fifth game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up eight hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Carlos Torres pitched 2/3 of an inning, Corey Knebel pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Will Smith pitched 2/3 of an inning.  Jacob Barnes pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits and an RBI, Juan Lagares had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and an RBI.  Neil Walker drew a walk, Matt Reynolds had a hit and an RBI and James Loney had a hit.  Asdrubal Cabrera had two hits and drew a walk, Flores had three hits and Kevin Plawecki had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Flores hit a double, Granderson, Cabrera and Lagares also each hit a double.  Granderson hit a homerun and the Mets were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Loney committed an error and Colon had a pickoff. 

Scooter Gennett had four hits and an RBI, Chris Carter had a hit and Kirk Nieuwenhuis had two hits.  Hernan Perez had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Hill had a hit and Carter, Nieuwenhuis and Gennett each hit a double.  The Brewers were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Perez had a stolen base and was caught stealing.  Gennett was picked off and Ryan Braun had an outfield assist. 

In the first Granderson hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the third Cespedes hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the seventh Perez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the eighth Plawecki hit a two run single to double the Mets lead to 4-1.  Gennett hit an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth and it was 4-2 Mets.  In the ninth Reynolds hit an RBI single to push the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets and Brewers will play game two on Friday night.

The New York Yankees sweep four game series against the Anaheim Angels



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New  York and the final score was 6-3.  Ivan Nova started for the Yankees and he pitched well and the big three at the end of the bullpen closed it out.  Brett Gardner had three hits and Chase Headley had two hits to lead the offense. 

Nova pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up six hits and three runs with a walk and five strikeouts and he earned his fifth win of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched 2/3 of an inning, Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit and striking out two and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and earned his 11th save of the season. 

Jhoulys Chacin pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and five runs with three walks and three strikeouts and he took his fourth loss of the season.  Mike Morin pitched 2/3 of an inning, Cory Rasmus pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Huston Street pitched an inning giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Gardner had three hits and drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Alex Rodriguez had a hit and two RBI, Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Didi Gregorius drew a walk, Headley had two hits and Chris Parmelee had a hit and an RBI.  Beltran, McCann and Rodriguez each hit a double and Headley hit two doubles.  The Yankees were 5-18 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Gardner was picked off and Castro committed an error.  Ellsbury had an outfield assist. 

Yunel Escobar had two hits, Kole Calhoun had a hit and Mike Trout had a hit.  Albert Pujols drew a walk, C.J. Cron had a hit and an RBI and Johnny Giavotella had a hit.  Jefry Marte had a hit and two RBI, Jett Bandy had a hit and Trout, Giavotella and Bandy each hit a double.  Marte hit a homerun and the Angels were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Trout had a stolen base and Cron was caught stealing.  Perez had a pickoff. 

In the fourth Cron hit an RBI single to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Parmelee hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  Beltran hit a two run double to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead and Rodriguez hit a sac fly to extend the lead to 4-1.  McCann hit an RBI double still in the fifth to push the lead to 5-1.  In the seventh Marte hit a two run homerun to trim the lead to 5-3.  Rodriguez hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees swept the four game series and it was the first time since 1993 they have swept a four game series against the Angels.  The Yankees will look to get over 500 on Friday night when they welcome the Detroit Tigers to town for a weekend three game series.  It will also be Old Timers weekend with the Old Timers game set for Sunday afternoon.

New York Mets salvage final game of series with Pittsburgh Pirates



The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.  The game took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score was 6-5 in ten innings.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched pretty well and the offense was led by Yoenis Cespedes who had three hits and Michael Conforto who had three RBI. 

Syndergaard pitched six innings giving up seven hits and three runs with two of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out five, Jim Henderson pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Addison Reed won his first game of the season pitching two innings and giving up a hit and he struck out one and Jeurys Familia earned his 19th save of the season pitching an inning and walking three with a strikeout. 

Jameson Taillon pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  A.J. Schugel pitched an inning giving up a run and a walk with two strikeouts, Jared Hughes pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two walks and Tony Watson pitched a perfect inning with three strikeouts.  Cory Luebke pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and he lost his first game of the season. 

Alejandro De Aza drew a walk, Conforto had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk and Cespedes had three hits.  Neil Walker had a hit and drew two walks, James Loney had a hit and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew two walks.  Ty Kelly had two hits and two RBI, Wilmer Flores had a hit and an RBI and Syndergaard had a hit.  Cabrera and Syndergaard each hit a double.  Kelly and Conforto had a homerun and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Walker committed an error. 

John Jaso had two hits and an RBI, Andrew McCuthchen had a hit and drew two walks and Gregory Polanco had three hits and an RBI.  Jung Ho Kang had a hit and an RBI, Josh Harrison had a hit and an RBI and Francisco Cervelli had a hit and drew two walks.  Jordy Mercer drew a walk, Sean Rodriguez had a hit and Chris Stewart drew a walk.  Polanco hit three doubles, Rodriguez, Jaso and Harrison each hit a double and the Pirates were 3-16 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Kang , Polanco each had a stolen base and Harrison had two stolen bases. 

In the first Polanco hit an RBI double giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  Kang hit an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game.  In the fourth Kelly hit a two run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the fourth Jaso hit an RBI double to give the Pirates a 3-2 lead.  Conforto hit a sac fly in the fifth and the game was tied at three.  In the seventh Polanco hit an RBI double and it was 4-3 Pirates.  Harrison  hit a sac fly to make it 5-3 Pirates.  In the eighth Conforto hit a two run homerun to tie the game at five.  In the tenth Flores hit an RBI single giving the Mets a 6-5 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Mets salvaged the third and final game of the series.  They will now head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers on Thursday night.   

New York Mets drop both games of a doubleheader



The New York Mets were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates in two games on Tuesday afternoon and night.  The games took place at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the final score in both games was 3-1.  Steven Matz and Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and they both pitched well.  The offense only came up with nine hits combined in both games. 

Matz pitched five innings giving up eight hits and two runs with two walks and eight strikeouts and he took his second loss of the season.  Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Logan Verrett pitched two innings giving up a hit and he walked one with two strikeouts. 

deGrom started the other game for the Mets and pitched six innings giving up six hits and three runs with no walks and nine strikeouts and he took his second loss of the season.  Jim Henderson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one, Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a strikeout and Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits.

Josh Harrison had three hits, Andrew McCutchen had two hits and an RBI and David Freese had two hits and an RBI.  Jung Ho Kang had two hits and drew a walk, Francisco Cervelli drew a walk and Jordy Mercer had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Niese drew a walk and Freese hit a double, Harrison a triple and Mercer hit a homerun.  The Pirates were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Harrison had a stolen base. 

Niese won his sixth game of the season for the Pirates pitching seven innings giving up four hits and no runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Neftali Feliz pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Mark Melancon pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

In the first Freese hit an RBI single to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  McCutchen hit an RBI single in the fifth to make it 2-0 Pirates and in the sixth Mercer hit a solo homerun pushing the lead to 3-0.  In the eighth Granderson hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

In the other game Granderson drew a walk, Walker had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit.  Flores drew a walk, Kevin Plawecki had a hit and an RBI and Alejandro De Aza had a hit.  Conforto and De Aza each hit a double.  The Mets were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Walker committed an error. 

John Jaso had two hits and an RBI, Gregory Polanco had a hit and Jordy Mercer had two hits.  Sean Rodriguez had two hits, Cole Figueroa had an RBI and Chris Stewart had two hits and an RBI.  Nicasio had a hit, Kang drew a walk and Rodriguez and Jaso each hit a double.  The Pirates were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the second Figueroa hit an RBI groundout giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead.  Stewart hit an RBI single pushing the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Plawecki hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  Jaso hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets were swept in the doubleheader and will play game three of three on Wednesday night.   

The New York Yankees double up the Anaheim Angels in offensive explosion



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 12-6.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and didn't pitch well and the bullpen was pretty good.  Brett Gardner, Carlos Beltran and Chris Parmelee each had three hits. 

Eovaldi pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up ten hits and five runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Anthony Swarzak won his first game of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Nick Goody pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Jered Weaver lost his fifth game of the season pitching 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and six runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Jose Alvarez pitched without getting an out, he gave up two htis and two runs, Cam Bedrosian pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and Greg Mahle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  Deolis Guerra pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out the side. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Gardner had three hits and two RBI and Beltran had three hits, three RBI and drew a walk.  Alex Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI, Brian McCann had a hit and two RBI and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Didi Gregorius  had two hits, Parmelee had three hits and three RBI and Ellsbury, Gardner, Parmelee, Beltran and Gregorius each hit a double.  Ellsbury and Beltran each hit a homerun and Parmelee hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Yunel Escobar had two hits, Kole Calhoun had a hit and drew a walk and Mike Trout had three hits and two RBI.  Albert Pujols had a hit and an RBI, Jefry Marte had two hits and an RBI and Rafael Ortega had two hits.  Carlos Perez had a hit, Gregorio Petit had two hits and two RBI and Calhoun, Ortega, Trout and Pujols each hit a double and Petit, Marte and Trout each hit a homerun.  The Angels were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Perez and Escobar each committed an error. 

In the first Trout hit an RBI single to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Gardner hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Rodriguez hit an RBI single in the first to make it a 2-1 game.  In the second Petit hit a two run homerun to give the Angels a 3-2 lead and Marte hit a solo homerun in the third to push the lead to 4-2.  In the bottom of the third Ellsbury hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 4-3 and in the fourth Gardner hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the fifth Pujols hit an RBI double to give the Angels a 5-4 lead.  In the sixth Parmelee hit a solo homerun to tie the game at five.  In the sixth Beltran hit an RBI double to give them a 6-5 lead and McCann hit a two run single pushing the lead to 8-5.  In the seventh Parmelee hit a two run homerun to double up the Angels at 10-5.  Beltran hit a two run homerun still in the seventh making it 12-5.  In the ninth Trout hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 12-6 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first three of the series and will look for the four game sweep on Thursday night.   

Yankees win second straight over the Anaheim Angels



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was really good.  Alex Rodriguez, Starlin Castro and Aaron Hicks each had two hits. 

Pineda pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller saved his seventh game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

David Huff lost his first game of the season pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up eight hits and five runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Mike Morin pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out one, Greg Mahle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Cam Bedrosian pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Fernando Salas pitched a perfect inning.

Cole Calhoun had a hit and two RBI, Mike Trout drew a walk and C.J. Cron had a hit.  Johnny Giavotella drew a walk, Rafael Ortega had a hit and Gregorio Petit had two hits and an RBI.  Petit, Ortega and Cron each hit a double and Calhoun hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Ortega and Huff each committed an error. 

In the first Beltran hit a two run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  Romine hit an RBI single in the first to up the lead to 3-0.  In the second Refsnyder hit a sac fly to increase the lead to 4-0 Yankees.  Castro hit a solo homerun in the third and it was 5-0.  In the fifth Petit hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 5-1.  Calhoun hit a two run homerun and the game was now 5-3.  In the seventh Rodriguez hit an RBI single to push the lead to 6-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees have taken the first two games in the series and will play game three of four on Wednesday night.   

The New York Yankees come up big in the late innings to defeat the Anaheim Angels



The New York Yankees defeated the Anaheim Angels on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was really good.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Carlos Beltran had three RBI to lead the offense. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up six hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Andrew Miller won his third game of the season pitching a perfect inning and striking out the side and Aroldis Chapman saved his 10th game of the season.  He pitched an inning striking out one. 

Matt Shoemaker pitched 7 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with no walks and six strikeouts.  He lost his seventh game of the season and Jose Alvarez pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run.

The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night.

The New York Mets fail to sweep and are shutout in Miami



The New York Mets were defeated by the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 1-0.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched very well but Jose Fernandez dominated the Mets.  The Mets only managed four hits and one extra base hit. 

Harvey pitched seven innings giving up four hits and a run with no walks and three strikeouts.  Harvey took his eighth loss of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Fernandez pitched seven innings giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and 14 strikeouts.  He earned his ninth win of the season.  David Phelps pitched a perfect inning and A.J. Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and earned his 18th save of the season. 

Alejandro De Aza had a hit, Curtis Granderson had a hit and Michael Conforto had a hit.  James Loney had a hit, Granderson hit a double and the Mets were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Bastardo had a pickoff. 

Ichiro Suzuki had a hit, Christian Yelich had a hit and Derek Dietrich had two hits.  J.T. Realmuto had a hit and an RBI, Dietrich hit a double and the Marlins were 1-1 with runners in scoring position and left three on base.  Suzuki was caught stealing. 

In the fifth Realmuto hit an RBI single to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead and that would be the only run of the game.  The Mets took two out of three in the series.  The Mets will begin a three game series in Pittsburgh with the Pirates on Monday night.   

New York Yankees lose a tough one after rain delay in Baltimore



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland and the final score was 3-1.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched very well just not deep into the game.  Aroldis Chapman blew his first save of the season.  The offense got a lot of hits but only managed the one run. 

Sabathia pitched five innings giving up two hits and no runs.  He walked six and struck out five.  Kirby Yates pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Dellin Betances took his fourth loss of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up two hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Chapman pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and an unearned run with two strikeouts. 

Kevin Gausman pitched six innings giving up seven hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  T.J. McFarland pitched two innings giving up three hits and no runs with two strikeouts earning his first victory of the season and Zach Britton earned his 17th save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Brett Gardner had three hits and Alex Rodriguez had two hits and an RBI.  Brian McCann drew a walk, Chase Headley had two hits and Didi Gregorius had two hits.  Rob Refsnyder drew a walk, Gardner hit two doubles and the Yankees were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Ellsbury committed an error. 

Joey Rickard had a hit, Manny Machado drew two walks and Mark Trumbo drew a walk.  Chris Davis had a hit and drew a walk, Nolan Reimold drew two walks and Francisco Pena had two hits and drew a walk.  Ryan Flaherty had a hit, Matt Wieters had a hit and two RBI and the Orioles were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Machado committed an error and Pena had a passed ball. 

In the third Rodriguez hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth inning Wieters hit a two run single and another run scored on the throwing error by Ellsbury making it a 3-1 game.  The final score would be 3-1 Orioles. 

The Yankees lost two out of three in the series and lost six out of ten on the road trip.  They will return home for seven games as they open up a four game set with the Angels on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

The New York Mets win their second in a row in Miami



The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and the final score was 6-4.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen also pitched fairly well.  Wilmer Flores and James Loney each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with only one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out one.  Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts, Jerry Blevins pitched an inning giving up a walk and Jim Henderson won his first game of the season pitching to one batter and retiring him.  Addison Reed pitched an inning giving up a hit and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits adn a run with a strikeout and he earned his 18th save of the season. 

Justin Nicolino pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up nine hits and two runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  Dustin McGowan pitched 2/3 of an inning striking out one, Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and they struck out three and David Phelps pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Cody Hall pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with three walks. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit and drew two walks, Juan Lagares had a hit and Matt Reynolds had a hit and an RBI.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Neil Walker had a hit and drew two walks and Flores had three hits and drew a walk.  Loney had three hits and an RBI, Michael Conforto had a hit and two RBI and Kevin Plawecki had a hit and drew a walk.  Colon had a hit, Alejandro De Aza had a hit and two RBI and Plawecki, Loney and De Aza each hit a double.  The Mets were 5-14 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Lagares had a stolen base and Plawecki was picked off.  Plawecki committed an error. 

Martin Prado had a hit and an RBI, Christian Yelich had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Justin Bour had a hit and drew a walk.  J.T. Realmuto had two hits and drew a walk, Miguel Rojas had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Nicolino had a hit.  Cole Gillespie had a hit, Realmuto and Rojas each hit a double.  Prado hit a homerun and the Marlins were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Realmuto had a passed ball and Nicolino had a pickoff. 

In the first Prado hit a solo homerun to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead.  In the second Nicolino reached on a force attempt error to make it 2-0 Marlins.  In the fourth Loney hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1 and in the sixth Conforto hit a sac fly to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the sixth Rojas hit an RBI double to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead.  In the eighth Conforto hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  Reynolds hit an RBI single to make it 4-3 Mets.  In the ninth De Aza hit a two run double making it 6-3 Mets.  In the bottom of the ninth Yelich hit an RBI single to make it 6-4 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets have taken the first two games of the series.  The final game will be on Sunday afternoon.
