New York Yankees lose a tough one in 14 innings to the Orioles and lose some more players as well


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3 in 14 innings.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and struggled and then left the game with a hip injury.  The Yankees bullpen was great until the end when Jonathan Holder gave up the game winning grand slam.  The offense didn’t do much at all and they lost a couple of other guys to injury.  Brandon Drury and Tyler Wade left the game early and then Gary Sanchez late.  Drury is headed to the DL, Wade was just sick and Sanchez seems to be ok. 

Sabathia pitched four innings giving up four hits and three runs with no walks and three strikeouts.  Tommy Khanle pitched two innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout, David Robertson pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out two, Chasen Shreve pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk and he struck out three and Holder pitched two innings giving up two hits and four runs with three being earned and a walk and two strikeouts.  Holder took his first loss of the season.

Kevin Gausman pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Richard Bleier pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk, Miguel Castro pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Mychal Givens pitched two innings with two walks and three strikeouts.  Pedro Araujo pitched two innings with a walk and a strikeout and he won his first game of the season and Brad Brach pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew two walks, Aaron Judge had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton had two hits and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Neil Walker had a hit and drew a walk and Gardner hit a double and Gregorius a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gregorius and Judge each had a stolen base.  Drury, Khanle and Torreyes each committed an error. 

Trey Mancini drew two walks, Manny Machado had four hits, two RBI and drew two walks and Adam Jones had a hit.  Pedro Alvarez had two hits, four RBI and drew a walk, Chris Davis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Tim Beckham drew a walk.  Anthony Santander had a hit and drew a walk, Machado hit two homeruns, Davis and Alvarez each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. 

In the first Machado hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Stanton hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the third Machado hit a solo homerun to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the third Judge hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the fourth Davis hit a solo homerun to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  In the 14th innings Alvarez hit a grand slam to give the Orioles a 7-3 lead and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game three of four on Saturday afternoon.  The Orioles have taken the first two games of the series.   

New York Yankees bats fall silent in loss to the Baltimore Orioles


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched well, Chad Green had a rough outing out of the bullpen.  The Yankees offense only managed four hits. 

Tanaka took his first loss of the season pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up six hits and three runs.  He walked none and struck out seven.  Green pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Dellin Betances pitched an inning with a walk and struck out the side. 

Andrew Cashner picked up his first win of the season pitching six innings and giving up two hits and a run with three walks and five strikeouts.  Mychal Givens pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Darren O’Day pitched 1 1/3 innings walking one and striking out one and Brad Brach pitched an inning with a walk and two strikeouts and picked up his first save of the season. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and an RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit and drew two walks.  Neil Walker had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Tyler Wade had a hit and drew two walks and Wade and Gregorius each hit a double.  Judge hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Gregorius was caught stealing and Stanton had an outfield assist. 

Trey Mancini had three hits and two RBI, Jonathan Schoop had a hit and Adam Jones had two hits and two RBI.  Chris Davis had a hit, Tim Beckham had a hit and Colby Rasmus had a hit.  Anthony Santander had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Jones and Santander each hit a double and Jones hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Santander had a stolen base. 

In the sixth Judge hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the seventh Jones hit a two-run homerun to give the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  Santander hit an RBI double to make it 3-1 and Mancini hit a two-run single and it was 5-1 Orioles.  In the seventh Walker hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Friday night.

New York Mets double up the Philadelphia Phillies to sweep 2 game series


The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-2.  Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and he pitched well but not deep into the game.  The Mets bullpen pitched great and Amed Rosario led the offense with a couple of hits and RBI. 

Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched four innings giving up four hits and two runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Robert Gsellman earned his first win of the season pitching two perfect innings with three strikeouts, Hansel Robles pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and AJ Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.   Jeurys Familia earned his third save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and he struck out one. 

Aaron Nola pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and four strikeouts.  Drew Hutchison pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with two walks and he took his first loss of the season.  Adam Morgan pitched to one batter and struck him out, Luis Garcia pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Edubray Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brandon Nimmo drew two walks, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and two RBI and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Todd Frazier drew a walk, Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk and Adrian Gonzalez drew a walk.  Wilmer Flores drew a walk, Rosario had two hits and two RBI and Rosario hit a triple and Cespedes hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Rosario was caught stealing. 

Cesar Hernandez had a hit, Carlos Santana had a hit and Nick Williams had an RBI.  Rhys Hoskins had two hits and drew a walk, Andrew Knapp had a hit and drew a walk and Hoskins and Santana each hit a double.  The Phillies were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Hoskins and Santana each had a stolen base and Crawford and Knapp each committed an error. 

In the first Cespedes hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the third Williams hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 2-1.  Santana stole home to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Rosario hit a two-run triple to give the Mets back the lead at 4-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets swept the brief two game series and will head to Washington to take on the Nationals beginning on Thursday afternoon. 

New York Mets shutout the Philadelphia Phillies


The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 2-0.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen did their job.  Todd Frazier had two hits to lead the offense. 

Harvey pitched five innings giving up a hit and no runs.  He walked one and struck out five.  A.J. Ramos pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout, Jerry Blevins picked up his first win of the season pitching to one batter and getting him out and Seth Lugo pitched two perfect innings with four strikeouts.  Jeurys Familia picked up his second save of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout.   

Ben Lively pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up six hits and two runs with a walk and five strikeouts for the Phillies.  He took his first loss of the season.  Yacksel Rios pitched to one batter and got him out, Victor Arano pitched 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and Hoby Milner pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Edubray Ramos pitched to one batter and got him out. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Jay Bruce had a hit and Frazier had two hits and an RBI.  Adrian Gonzalez had a hit, Travis d’Arnaud had a hit and an RBI and Jose Reyes drew a walk.  Harvey had a hit, Frazier hit a double and the Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Reyes was caught stealing and Reyes committed an error.

In the sixth Frazier hit an RBI double and d’Arnaud hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Mets and that would be the final score. 

New York Yankees power their way to victory over the Tampa Bay Rays


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-2.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and pitched great and the big three each hit a homerun. 

Severino pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Severino won his second game of the season.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Blake Snell lost his first game of the season pitching 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and five runs with three walks and five strikeouts.  Matt Andriese pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with three strikeouts, Chaz Roe pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Jose Alvarado pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk and Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and two RBI.  Gary Sanchez had a hit and two RBI, Brandon Drury drew a walk and Tyler Austin drew a walk.  Austin Romine had two hits, Ronald Torreyes had a hit and an RBI and Stanton, Judge and Sanchez each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Austin had a stolen base and Severino committed an error. 

Denard Span had an RBI, Kevin Kiermaier had a hit and C.J. Cron had a hit and an RBI.  Brad Miller had a hit, Adeiny Hechavarria had a hit and Mallex Smith had a hit.  Daniel Robertson had a hit and drew a walk.  Cron hit a double and the Rays were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. 

In the first Cron hit an RBI double to give the Rays a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the first Stanton hit a two-run homerun to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the third Sanchez hit a two-run homerun making it 4-1 Yankees.  In the fourth Torreyes hit an RBI single and Judge hit a two-run homerun to push the lead to 7-1.  In the eighth Span hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 7-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees swept the brief two game series and will now stay home and play the Orioles for four beginning on Thursday night.   

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays behind Didi Gregorius monster day


The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday afternoon.  The game was scheduled for Monday but was snowed out.  The game was played at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 11-4.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Jonathan Holder didn’t pitch well but the rest of the bullpen did.  Didi Gregorius led the offense with four hits and eight RBI. 

Montgomery pitched five innings giving up two hits and a run with four walks and four strikeouts.  Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up four hits and three runs with a strikeout, Tommy Khanle picked up his first win of the season pitching 1 2/3 innings and he gave up a hit and struck out four.  David Robertson pitched a perfect inning and Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts. 

Chris Archer pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Austin Pruitt took the loss pitching 2 1/3 innings and giving up three hits and six runs with five of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four and Sergio Romo pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.

Matt Duffy had an RBI, Carlos Gomez drew a walk and C.J. Cron had a hit.  Wilson Ramos had a hit, Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits and an RBI and Jesus Sucre had two hits.  Daniel Robertson drew two walks, Rob Refsnyder drew a walk and Denard Span had a hit and two RBI.  Cron and Span each hit a double and the Rays were 4-12 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Duffy committed an error. 

In the second Wade hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Duffy reached on an error and a run scored to tie the game at 1.  In the bottom of the third Gregorius hit a three-run homerun giving the Yankees a 4-1 lead.  In the sixth Hechavarria hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 4-2 and Span hit a two-run double to tie the game at 4.  In the seventh Gardner hit a sac bunt and a throwing error made it 5-4 Yankees.  Gregorius then hit another three-run homerun to make it 8-4 Yankees.  In the eighth Judge drew an RBI walk and Gregorius hit a two-run single making it 11-4 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play game two of two on Wednesday afternoon.  Didi Gregorius had eight RBI in the game for the most by any Yankee player since Alex Rodriguez had ten in 2005.

New York Yankees drop second straight north of the border


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 7-4.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and he pitched well but not deep into the game.  The bullpen did not do their job as they blew the lead and Brandon Drury led the offense with a couple of hits and RBI. 

Gray pitched four innings giving up seven hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Chad Green pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out four, Tommy Khanle pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and David Robertson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and he took the loss his first of the season. 

Marcus Stroman pitched five innings giving up three hits and four runs with three walks and eight strikeouts.  Danny Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one, John Axford pitched an inning with two walks and a strikeout and Tyler Clippard won his first game pitching an inning and giving up a walk and he struck out one.  Seung Hwan Oh pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and saved his first game of the season. 

Aaron Judge had a hit and drew two walks, Giancarlo Stanton drew three walks and Didi Gregorius had a hit and an RBI.  Neil Walker had a hit and an RBI, Drury had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk and Gregorius hit a double.  Drury hit a homerun and the Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Judge had an outfield assist. 

Devon Travis had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew two walks and Justin Smoak had three hits, six RBI and drew a walk.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit, Russell Martin had a hit and drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had three hits.  Gift Ngoepe had a hit, Aledmys Diaz had a hit which was a double and Smoak hit two homeruns.  The Jays were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Solarte committed an error. 

In the second Travis hit an RBI single to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Gregorius hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Walker hit an RBI single and the Yankees took a 2-1 lead.  Drury hit a two-run homerun and it was 4-1 Yankees.  In the seventh Smoak hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the eighth Smoak hit a grand-slam to give the Jays a 7-4 lead and that was the final score of the game. 

The Yankees will now head home for their home opener on Monday and a brief two game series with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.  The game took place at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada and the final score was 5-3.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well, Dellin Betances idn’t as he blew the game.  Tyler Austin hit two homeruns to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched five innings giving up five hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four.  Adam Warren pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a run and a walk, Jonathan Holder pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and Betances took the loss pitching two innings giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and four strikeouts. 

Marco Estrada pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Ryan Tepera earned the win pitching an inning with a walk and a strikeout and Roberto Osuna earned his first save of the season pitching a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Neil Walker drew a walk, Giancarlo Stanton had a hit and drew a walk and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Brandon Drury drew a walk, Brett Gardner drew a walk and Austin had two hits and three RBI.  Stanton and Gregorius each hit a double and Austin hit two homeruns.  The Yankees were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Drury and Betances each committed an error. 

Curtis Granderson had a hit, Josh Donaldson had a hit and drew a walk and Justin Smoak had three hits and two RBI.  Yangervis Solarte had a hit and an RBI, Randal Grichuk had a hit and drew a walk and Kevin Pillar had a hit and drew a walk.  Luke Maile had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Donaldson and Smoak each hit a double and Solarte hit a homerun.  The Jays were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Pillar had three stolen bases and Maile had a stolen base.  Granderson was caught stealing. 

In the first Smoak hit an RBI single giving the Jays a 1-0 lead.  In the third Smoak hit an RBI double to push the lead to 2-0.  In the fifth Austin hit a two-run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the sixth Maile hit an RBI single to give the Jays back the lead at 3-2.  In the seventh Austin hit his second homerun of the game a solo shot to tie the game at three.  In the eighth Solarte hit a solo homerun to make it a 4-3 lead for the Jays and Pillar stole home to make it 5-3 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the fourth and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.

The New York Mets are shutdown by the St. Louis Cardinals


The New York Mets were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 5-1.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched ok and the bullpen did ok.  Juan Lagares had three hits to lead the Mets offense.   

Matz took the loss pitching four innings giving up four hits and three runs with three walks and four strikeouts.  Paul Sewald pitched two innings giving up three hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts, Jacob Rhame pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two walks.  A.J. Ramos pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout. 

Luke Weaver pitched five innings giving up five hits and a run with three walks and three strikeouts and he won the game.  Matt Bowman pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two, Jordan Hicks pitched an inning and he struck out one and Dominic Leone pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit, Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and Jay Bruce had a hit.  Todd Frazier drew a walk, Kevin Plawecki drew a walk and Lagares had three hits.  Adrian Gonzalez drew a walk, Amed Rosario had a hit and an RBI and Bruce hit a double.  The Mets were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Rosario was picked off. 

Dexter Fowler drew a walk, Tommy Pham had two hits and drew two walks and Matt Carpenter drew two walks.  Marcell Ozuna had three hits and two RBI, Jose Molina had a hit and an RBI and Paul DeJong had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk.  Jedd Gyorko had a hit and drew a walk, Ozuna hit a double and DeJong hit two homeruns.  Molina also hit a homerun and the Cardinals were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Pham and Gyorko had a stolen base.  Weaver had a pickoff. 

In the second DeJong hit a solo homerun to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  In the second Rosario hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the third Ozuna hit an RBI double to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth Molina hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-1.  In the fifth Ozuna hit an RBI single and the lead was pushed to 4-1.  In the eighth DeJong hit a solo homerun to make it 5-1 and that was the final score.  The Mets are scheduled to play on Monday night against the Philadelphia Phillies at home.

deGrom pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up four hits and a run with a walk and seven strikeouts.  deGrom picked up his first win of the season.  Robert Gsellman pitched to two batters and struck out one and he gave up two hits, Anthony Swarzak pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

Michael Wacha pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up five hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Wacha took the loss, Bud Norris pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out two, Ryan Sherriff pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and Sam Tuivailala pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout.  Tyler Lyons pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk.

In the first Frazier hit a two-run double to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Martinez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the bottom of the fourth d’Arnaud hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 3-1.  In the fifth Cespedes hit a solo homerun and the Mets lead was extended to 4-1.  In the seventh Frazier hit a sac fly and the score was 5-1 and in the eighth Carpenter hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 5-2.  In the bottom of the eighth Cabrera hit an RBI double and the final score was 6-2.
