The New York Mets double up the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets defeated the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 6-3.  Matt Harvey started for the Mets and pitched ok and the bullpen was pretty good.  Curtis Granderson led the offense with three hits and five RBI. 

Harvey earned his first win of the season pitching five innings and giving up seven hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out five.  Antonio Bastardo pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts, Jim Henderson gave up a hit without recording an out and Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and struck him out.  Addison Reed pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out one and earned his fourth save of the season. 

Bud Norris took his third loss of the season pitching four innings and giving up five hits and five runs with four of them being earned.  He walked two and struck out four.  Casey Kelly pitched three innings giving up three hits and a run, Jason Grilli pitched an inning giving up a hit and Eric O'Flaherty pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk. 

Granderson had three hits and five RBI, David Wright had a hit and drew a walk and Michael Conforto had a hit.  Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI, Lucas Duda had a hit and Neil Walker had a hit.  Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and drew a walk, Travis d'Arnaud drew a walk and Juan Lagares had a hit.  Wright and Cespedes each hit a double and Granderson hit two homeruns.  The Mets were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Cabrera committed an error and Cespedes had an outfield assist. 

Nick Markakis drew a walk, Daniel Castro had a hit and drew a walk and Freddie Freeman had a hit.  Adonis Garcia had three hits and an RBI, A.J. Pierzynski had three hits and Kelly Johnson had a hit and an RBI.  Mallex Smith had a hit and an RBI, Smith hit a double and the Braves were 4-9 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Norris committed an error. 

In the second Granderson hit a grand slam to give the Mets a 4-0 lead.  In the second Johnson hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  Smith hit an RBI double and the lead was down to 4-2 still in the second.  In the fourth Granderson hit a solo homerun giving the Mets a 5-2 lead.  In the seventh Cespedes hit an RBI double and it was 6-2 Mets.  In the seventh Garcia hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-3 and that would be the final score. 

The Mets will go for their second victory in a row on Saturday night.   

New York Yankees win a thriller on a walk-off homerun



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen was good and Brett Gardner led the offense with three hits and two RBI including the game winning homerun. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and Andrew Miller earned his first win of the season pitching an inning giving up a hit. 

Blake Snell started for the Rays and made his major league debut.  He pitched five innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk and six strikeouts.  Enny Romero pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout, Xavier Cedeno pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Erasmo Ramirez took his first loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up three hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Gardner had three hits and two RBI and Carlos Beltran drew a walk.  Mark Teixeira had a hit, Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Chase Headley drew a walk and Gardner hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base. 

Logan Morrison had a hit, Corey Dickerson had three hits and an RBI and Desmond Jennings drew a walk.  Kevin Kiermaier had two hits and an RBI, Morrison and Dickerson each hit a double.  Kiermaier hit a homerun and the Rays were 1-3 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Kiermaier was caught stealing, Miller and Casali each committed an error. 

In the first a wild pitch gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Dickerson hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Kiermaier hit a solo homerun in the fifth to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.  Gardner hit an RBI single in the seventh to tie the game at two.  In the ninth Gardner  hit a walk-off solo homerun to give the Yankees a 3-2 win. 

The Yankees have won two in a row and will go for the three game sweep on Sunday afternoon.  Michael Pineda will start for the Yankees against Drew Smyly. 

New York Yankees end their losing streak with win over the Tampa Bay Rays



The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 6-3.  CC Sabathia started and didn't pitch very well, the bullpen was great.  Mark Teixeira had three hits and Brian McCann had three RBI. 

Sabathia pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up nine hits and three runs with three walks and two strikeouts.  Ivan Nova earned his first win of the season pitching 2 1/3 perfect innings with two strikeouts, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and Andrew Miller saved his fourth game of the season pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts. 

Matt Moore started for the Rays and pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Moore took his first loss of the season.  Dana Eveland pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Ryan Webb pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Starlin Castro drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit.  Teixeira had three hits, McCann had two hits, three RBI and drew a walk and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits and two RBI.  Didi Gregorius had two hits, Ellsbury hit a double and McCann hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Ellsbury and Teixeira each had a stolen base and Gregorius committed an error. 

Logan Forsythe had two hits and two RBI, Brandon Guyer had a hit and an RBI and Evan Longoria had two hits.  Desmond Jennings had a hit, Steve Pearce had a hit and drew a walk and Steven Souza Jr. had a hit and drew a walk.  Tim Beckham had a hit and drew a walk, Forsythe hit two doubles and Longoria hit a double.  The Rays were 3-8 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.  Jennings had a stolen base.  Pearce committed an error and Souza Jr. had an outfield assist. 

In the second Forsythe hit a two run double to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second the Yankees tied the game at two on a two run homerun.  In the fourth Guyer hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Rays.  In the fifth Gardner drew an RBI walk to tie the game at three and in the sixth McCann hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead.  In the eighth Ellsbury hit a two run double to give the Yankees a 6-3 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will look to win their second in a row for the first time in about two weeks on Saturday afternoon.  They will have their ace Masahiro Tanaka on the mound.   

New York Mets lose a close one to the Philadelphia Phillies



The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-4.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched ok, the bullpen was pretty good.  Neil Walker had four hits and Lucas Duda had three hits to lead their offense. 

Colon pitched six innings giving up four hits and three runs.  He walked one and struck out four.  Jerry Blevins pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Addison Reed pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Antonio Bastardo pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Jim Henderson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Hansel Robles pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and he took his first loss of the season. 

Jeremy Hellickson started for the Phillies and pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up ten hits and four runs with a walk and six strikeouts.  Hector Neris pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and he struck out six, Dalier Hinojosa pitched two innings giving up  a hit and he struck out three and Jeanmar Gomez pitched two innings giving up a hit and a walk and he struck out two.  He picked up his second win of the season. 

Curtis Granderson had two hits and he drew a walk, Michael Conforto drew a walk and Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and an RBI.  Duda had three hits and an RBI, Walker had four hits and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit and an RBI.  Travis d'Arnaud had two hits, Granderson, Duda, Cabrera each hit a double and d'Arnaud hit two doubles.  Cespedes and Duda hit a homerun.  The Mets were 2-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base. 

Odubel Herrera had a hit and drew a walk, Ryan Howard drew a walk and Carlos Ruiz had three hits.  Freddy Galvis had two hits and two RBI, David Lough had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and Peter Bourjos had two hits and two RBI.  Lough and Galvis each hit a double and Galvis hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 2-7 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

In the second Cabrera hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second a wild pitch made it 2-0.  In the bottom of the second Galvis hit a two run homerun to tie the game at two.  In the fourth Lough hit a sac fly to make it 3-2 Phillies.  In the fifth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  Duda hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 4-3 lead still in the fifth.  In the seventh Bourjos hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the 11th Bourjos hit an RBI single for the 5-4 walk-off win. 

The Mets won two out of three in the series and they will have the day off on Thursday.  The Mets will begin a three game series with the Atlanta Braves in Atlanta on Friday night.   

New York Yankees are swept by the Oakland Athletics



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Thursday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and pitched well, the bullpen wasn't good.  Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits to lead the offense. 

Severino started for the Yankees and pitched six innings giving up seven hits and two runs with no walks and four strikeouts.  Chasen Shreve took his first loss of the season pitching an inning and giving up two hits and two runs with two strikeouts, Johnny Barbato pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a run and two walks and he struck out one. 

Rich Hill picked up his second win of the season pitching six innings and giving up three hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked four and struck out ten.  Fernando Rodriguez pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a walk and a strikeout, John Axford pitched 1 1/3 giving up a hit and striking out one and Liam Hendricks pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one.  Ryan Madson earned his sixth save of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and striking out one. 

Ellsbury had three hits, Starlin Castro had a hit and an RBI and Mark Teixeira drew a walk.  Alex Rodriguez drew two walks, Chase Headley had a hit and Aaron Hicks had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Brett Gardner drew a walk, Austin Romine had a hit and an RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  The Yankees were 3-11 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Rodriguez had a stolen base and Hicks had an outfield assist. 

Billy Burns had a hit, Mark Canha had a hit and two RBI and Josh Reddick had a hit.  Jed Lowrie had two hits and an RBI, Stephen Vogt had a hit and drew a walk and Chris Coghlan had a hit and two RBI.  Khris Davis had a hit and an RBI, Coco Crisp had two hits, an RBI an drew a walk and Marcus Semien drew a walk.  Reddick hit a double and Canha, Davis, Crisp and Coghlan each hit a homerun.  The Athletics were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Burns, Crisp and Semien each had a stolen base.  Hill committed an error. 

In the second Hicks had an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Lowrie hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the fourth Romine hit an RBI single giving the Yankees back the lead at 2-1.  In the fifth Canha hit a solo homerun to tie the game at two.  In the seventh Davis and Crisp went back-to-back to give Oakland a 4-2 lead.  In the seventh Castro hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3 but that would be as close as the Yankees came.  In the eighth Coghlan hit a two run homerun to give the A's a 6-3 lead and in the ninth Canha hit a sac fly making it 7-3 which would be the final score.  The Yankees were swept by the A's in the three game series and are 1-5 on their current nine game homestand.  They will begin a three game series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

New York Yankees struggles continue in loss to the Oakland Athletics



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-2.  Nathan Eovaldi pitched pretty well, he had one bad inning and the offense continued to not do much.  Didi Gregorius had two hits. 

Eovaldi pitched six innings giving up eight hits and three runs with one walk and seven strikeouts.  Eovaldi took the loss, his second of the season.  Kirby Yates pitched an inning with a walk, Brandon Pinder pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Ivan Nova pitched a perfect inning. 

Kendall Graveman started for the A's and pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run with three walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his first game of the season.  Marc Rzepczynski pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit, Ryan Dull pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and Sean Doolittle pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and saved his second game of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit, Starlin Castro drew a walk and Carlos Beltran had a hit and an RBI.  Brian McCann had a hit and drew a walk, Alex Rodriguez had a hit and Chase Headley drew a walk.  Gregorius had two hits and an RBI, Ellsbury hit a double and Gregorius and Beltran hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gregorius committed an error and Hicks had an outfield assist.  Eovaldi had a pickoff. 

Billy Burns had three hits, Chris Coghlan had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Josh Reddick had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Danny Valencia had a hit, Billy Butler had a hit and Stephen Vogt had two hits and an RBI.  Jed Lowrie drew a walk, Khris Davis had two hits and two RBI and Burns had two doubles.  Coghlan, Vogt hit two doubles.  The Athletics were 5-13 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Burns was picked off, Vogt and Burns committed an error. 

Gregorius hit a solo homerun in the second to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Coghlan hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  Reddick hit an RBI single to give the A's a 2-1 lead.  Vogt hit a sac fly still in the fourth to give the A's a 3-1 lead.  In the eighth Davis hit a two run single and it was 5-1 Athletics.  In the eighth Beltran hit a solo homerun to make it 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series on Thursday night.  The Yankees will look to avoid the sweep.

The New York Yankees fall to the Oakland Athletics as their offense continues to sputter



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-2.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and pitched well and the bullpen was good.  The Yankees offense continued to struggle with runners in scoring position and Alex Rodriguez and Chase Headley each had two hits. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up two runs on seven hits.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Chasen Shreve pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two and Andrew Miller pitched an inning striking out one.  Johnny Barbato took his first loss of the season pitching two innings and giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout. 

Eric Surkamp pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.  Marc Rzepczynski pitched to one batter and retired him, John Axford pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Sean Doolittle pitched a perfect inning.  Fernando Rodriguez won his first game of the season pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Ryan Madson saved his fifth game of the season pitching an inning and striking out one.

Billy Burns had a hit, Chris Coghlan had a hit and Josh Reddick drew a walk.  Danny Valencia had two hits, Jed Lowrie had four hits and an RBI and Yonder Alonso had a hit.  Mark Canha had a hit and an RBI, Marcus Semien had a hit and an RBI and Lowrie hit a double.  Burns and Valencia each hit a triple and the Athletics were 3-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Canha was caught stealing and Valencia committed an error.  Surkamp had a pickoff. 

In the first Rodriguez had an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the second Semien hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the fifth Beltran hit a sac fly to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  In the sixth Lowrie hit an RBI single to tie the game at two.  In the 11th Canha hit an RBI single to give the A's a 3-2 lead and that would be the final score of the game.  The two teams will play game two of three on Wednesday night.  The Yankees are now 5-7 on the young season.   

The New York Mets defeat the Philadelphia Phillies behind Noah Syndergaard



The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-2.  Noah Syndergaard started and pitched very well again.  The offense was led by David Wright hitting two homeruns, Lucas Duda had two hits and Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits. 

Syndergaard started for the Mets and pitched seven innings giving up five hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  He won his second game of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out three and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts. 

Jerad Eickhoff started for the Phillies and pitched seven innings giving up five hits and two runs with three walks and nine strikeouts.  Eickhoff lost his second game of the season.  David Hernandez pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with three strikeouts and Elvis Araujo pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run.

Freddy Galvis had a hit, Odubel Herrera had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Maikel Franco had a hit.  Ryan Howard had a hit and drew a walk, Cameron Rupp had a hit and David Lough had a hit.  Cesar Hernandez had a hit and drew a walk, Andres Blanco had an RBI and Galvis and Lough each hit a double.  The Phillies were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Lough, Galvis and Herrera each had a stolen base. 

In the first Wright hit a solo homerun to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the third Herrera hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the sixth Duda hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 2-1 lead and in the eighth Duda hit a solo homerun to make it 3-1.  One batter after Duda Walker hit a solo homerun to make it 4-1 Mets.  Wright hit his second homerun of the game in the ninth to make it 5-1 and in the bottom of the ninth Blanco hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 5-2 which would be the final score. 

The Mets record improved to 6-6 on the season and they will play game two on Tuesday night.
