New York Mets lose rubber game to the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 8-2.  David Peterson started for the Mets and he did not pitch well.  Jonathan Villar led the offense with three hits and Brandon Nimmo and Luis Guillorme each had two hits. 

Peterson pitched four innings giving up seven hits and six runs.  He walked two and struck out five and took his first loss of the season.  Jacob Barnes pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout, Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a run and a walk with a strikeout and Joey Lucchesi pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Aaron Nola pitched four innings giving up six hits and a run with two walks and five strikeouts.  Connor Brogdon pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and he earned his third win of the season.  Archie Bradley pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts, Sam Coonrod pitched a perfect inning and Hector Neris pitched an inning giving up a hit. 

Nimmo had two hits and drew a walk, Francisco Lindor had a hit and drew a walk and Pete Alonso had a hit and an RBI.  Dom Smith had a hit, Villar had three hits and James McCann had a hit.  Guillorme had two hits and drew a walk, Smith and Villar each hit a double and Villar hit a triple.  The Mets were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left 14 men on base.  Guillorme committed an error. 

Andrew McCutchen had a hit and drew a walk, Rhys Hoskins had three hits and an RBI and Bryce Harper had two hits and an RBI.  J.T. Realmuto had a hit, three RBI and drew a walk, Alec Bohm had a hit and three RBI and Didi Gregorius had a hit.  Jean Segura drew a walk, Harper hit a double.  Hoskins hit two doubles and McCutchen hit a triple.  Hoskins, Bohm and Realmuto each hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 3-10 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Bohm, and McCutchen each had a stolen base.  Quinn had two stolen bases and Gregorius committed an error. 

In the bottom of the first Hoskins hit a solo homerun, Bohm hit a three-run homerun and the Phillies had a 4-0 lead.  In the third Alonso hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-1.  In the bottom of the fifth Realmuto hit a three-run homerun pushing the Phillies lead to 7-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Harper hit an RBI groundout and it was 8-1.  In the seventh a wild pitch cut the lead to 8-2 but that would be the final score. 

The Mets are now 1-2 on the season and will come home for their home opener on Thursday afternoon against the Miami Marlins.   

New York Yankees drop a close one in extras to the Baltimore Orioles

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 4-3 in 11 innings.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  The bullpen looked good as well, the offense not so good.  DJ LeMahieu, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sanchez, Gio Urshela and Brett Gardner each had two hits. 

Taillon pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.  Nick Nelson pitched 1 1/3 innings striking out two, Darren O’Day pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.  Aroldis Chapman pitched a perfect inning striking out the side, Chad Green pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two unearned runs.  The reason they are unearned is because the runner starts at second in extra innings.  I hate this rule and not just because they lost, I just don’t think it is baseball but it seems here to stay.  Green walked one and struck out one and took his first loss of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a walk and striking out two. 

John Means started for the Orioles and he pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and a run with two walks and four strikeouts.  Dillon Tate pitched an inning giving up a hit, Tanner Scott pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and striking out three, Shawn Armstrong pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run and Cesar Valdez pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and an unearned run with three strikeouts.  Valdez earned his first win of the season.  Paul Fry pitched a perfect inning and picked up his first save of the season. 

LeMahieu had two hits, Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI.  Stanton had two hits, Sanchez had two hits and drew a walk and Kyle Higashioka had a hit and an RBI.  Urshela had two hits and an RBI, Gardner had two hits and Sanchez and Urshela each hit a double.  The Yankees were 3-14 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Torres committed an error. 

Cedric Mullins had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Trey Mancini drew a walk and Anthony Santander had a hit and an RBI.  Rio Ruiz had a hit, Chance Sisco had a hit and an RBI and Mullins and Santander each hit a homerun.  The Orioles were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Santander had an outfield assist. 

In the bottom of the third Hicks hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Mullins hit a solo homerun and Santander hit a solo homerun giving the Orioles a 2-1 lead.  In the bottom of the eighth Urshela hit an RBI double tying the game at two.  In the tenth Severino reached on a throwing error by Torres and a run scored to give the Orioles a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the tenth Higashioka hit an RBI single to tie the game at three.  In the eleventh Sisco hit an RBI single to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees took two out of three in the series and their record is now 3-3.  They will have an off day on Thursday before beginning a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa on Friday afternoon.

New York Mets double up the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 8-4.  Marcus Stroman started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen pitched ok and the offense was led by Pete Alonso who had two hits and two RBI. 

Stroman pitched six innings giving up three hits and a run with two walks and three strikeouts.  He picked up his first victory of the season.  Miguel Castro pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run with two strikeouts, Trevor May pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out two and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one being earned.  He walked one and struck out one. 

Chase Anderson pitched five innings and gave up two hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  Vince Velasquez pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four runs and four walks with four strikeouts, Brandon Kintzler pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and David Hale pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks. 

Brandon Nimmo had an RBI and drew three walks, Francisco Lindor had an RBI and Michael Conforto had a hit and an RBI.  Alonso had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Dom Smith had a hit and two RBI and Luis Guillorme drew a walk.  Jeff McNeil drew a walk, James McCann had a hit and drew a walk and Kevin Pillar drew a walk.  Alonso and Conforto each hit a double and Smith and Alonso each hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Nimmo and Pillar each had a stolen base.  McNeil and Alonso each committed an error. 

Matt Joyce drew two walks, Rhys Hoskins had two hits and an RBI and Alec Bohm had a hit.  Bryce Harper drew a walk, J.T. Realmuto had a hit and an RBI and Didi Gregorius had two hits and an RBI.  Jean Segura had two hits, Adam Haseley had two hits and Haseley and Hoskins each hit a double and Gregorius hit a homerun.  The Phillies were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. 

In the fourth Smith hit a two-run homerun giving the Mets a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth Gregorius hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 2-1.  In the seventh Nimmo drew an RBI walk, Lindor hit a sac fly and Pillar stole home.  Conforto hit an RBI double and it was 6-1 Mets.  In the bottom of the seventh Hoskins hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2.  In the ninth Alonso hit a two-run homerun pushing the Mets lead to 8-2.  In the bottom of the ninth Hoskins hit an RBI double and Realmuto hit into a forceout making it an 8-4 game but that would be the final score. 

The two teams will play the rubber game on Wednesday afternoon. 

New York Yankees rout the Baltimore Orioles

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-2.  Gerrit Cole started for the Yankees and he was dominant.  Aaron Judge led the Yankees offense with three hits and four RBI and Giancarlo Stanton added two hits. 

Cole pitched seven innings giving up four runs and no runs.  He walked none and struck out thirteen.  Cole picked up his first win of the season.  Chad Green pitched a perfect inning and Lucas Luetge pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout. 

Dean Kremer pitched three innings giving up five hits and three runs with four walks and five strikeouts.  He lost his first game of the season.  Adam Plutko pitched three innings giving up two hits and no runs, Tyler Wells pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a walk and a strikeout and Wade LeBlanc pitched an inning giving up three hits and three runs. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Judge had three hits and four RBI and Brett Gardner had a hit and drew two walks.  Stanton had two hits and an RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Jay Bruce had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Gio Urshela had a hit and drew a walk, Kyle Higashioka had a hit and drew a walk and Gardner, Stanton and Higashioka each hit a double.  Bruce and Judge each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 2-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. 

Cedric Mullins had a hit,Trey Mancini had a hit and Ryan Mountcastle had two hits.  Rio Ruiz had a hit and two RBI, Maikel Franco had two hits and Mancini and Franco each hit a double.  Ruiz hit a homerun and the Orioles were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Mullins had a stolen base. 

In the second Bruce hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth LeMahieu grounded into a double play and a run scored to push the Yankees lead to 2-0.  Judge hit an RBI single and it was a 3-0 game.  In the bottom of the seventh Stanton hit an RBI double to increase the Yankees lead to 4-0.  In the eighth Judge hit a three-run homerun to break the game open and make it 7-0 Yankees.  In the ninth Ruiz hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 7-2 but that would be the final score. 

The Yankees record improved to 3-2 on the season and they will go for the three-game sweep on Wednesday night.  The Orioles are now 3-2 also and will try and avoid the sweep.

New York Mets blow late lead in loss to Philadelphia Phillies

 The New York Mets were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.  The game took place 

at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the final score was 5-3.  Jacob deGrom 

started for the Mets and he pitched well.  The Mets bullpen didn't pitch well and Michael Conforto and 

deGrom led the offense with two hits each.  

deGrom pitched six innings giving up three hits and no runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.  Miguel

Castro pitched an inning giving up a hit, Trevor May pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and 

three runs with two being earned and he walked and struck out a batter and Aaron Loup pitched 2/3 of an 

inning giving up a hit and two unearned runs.  

Matt Moore pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and four 

strikeouts.  Brandon Kintzler pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and he struck out one, Sam Coonrod

 and he struck out three and Connor Brogdon pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one and

he picked up his second win of the season.  Jose Alvarado pitched an inning giving up three hits and 

a run with two strikeouts.  He picked up his first save of the season.  

Kevin Pillar had a hit, Francisco Lindor had a hit and drew a walk and Conforto had two hits and an 

RBI.  Pete Alonso had a hit and drew a walk, J.D. Davis  had a hit and drew a walk and James McCann

had a hit and an RBI.  Brandon Nimmo had a hit and drew a walk, deGrom had two hits and an RBI

and the Mets were 4-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.  Guillorme committed

an error and Pillar had an outfield assist.

was 2-0 Mets.  In the eighth Harper was hit by pitch to score a run, Realmuto hit an RBI single, Bohm 

reached on a fielder's choice that scored two runs and Gregorius hit a sac fly to give the Phillies a 5-2

lead.  In the ninth Conforto hit an RBI single and it cut the lead to 5-3 but that was as close as they 

got.  The final out was a deep drive by Alonso that Harper caught against the fence to preserve the

victory.  The two teams will play game two of three on Tuesday night.  It was the Mets first game 

as their opening series was cancelled due to Covid protocols with the Washington Nationals who will

finally begin their season on Tuesday.  

New York Yankees offense awakens in rout of the Baltimore Orioles

 The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee

Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-0.  Jordan Montgomery started for the Yankees

and he pitched great.  The offense got a homer each from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

Montgomery pitched six innings giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and seven strikeouts. 

Montgomery earned his first victory of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched two hitless and scoreless innings.  

He walked one and struck out three and Aroldis Chapman pitched an inning giving up a walk and he 

struck out the side.  

Jorge Lopez started for the Orioles and he pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with 

three walks and five strikeouts.  Lopez lost his first game of the season.  Shawn Armstrong pitched

1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout, Paul Fry pitched 1/3 of an 

inning giving up three hits and a run with a walk and Mac Sceroler pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up 

two walks and he struck out four.  

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks, Judge had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk and 

Aaron Hicks had an RBI and drew a walk.  Stanton had a hit and four RBI, Gleyber Torres had a hit 

and Jay Bruce drew two walks.  Gio Urshela had a hit, Clint Frazier had a hit and drew a walk and 

Judge and Stanton each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left

seven men on base.  Sanchez committed an error.  

Cedric Mullins had a hit, Pedro Severino had a hit and drew a walk and Freddy Galvis had a hit.  Ramon

Urias had a hit, Ryan McKenna drew a walk and the Orioles were 0-2 with runners in scoring position

and left six men on base.  Galvis had a stolen base.  

In the fourth Judge hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fifth Hicks

drew an RBI walk and Stanton hit a grand-slam to push their lead to 6-0.  In the bottom of the sixth

LeMahieu hit an RBI single to make it 7-0 and that would be the final score.  

The Yankees are now 2-2 and will play game two of their three game series with Baltimore on Tueseday

night.  Gerrit Cole will get the start for the Yankees.

New York Yankees bats are silent as they drop rubber game to the Toronto Blue Jays

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 3-1.  Domingo German started for the Yankees and he didn’t pitch great.  Michael King came out of relief and was great.  The Yankees offense only managed five hits. 

German pitched three innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts.  He took his first loss of the season.  King pitched six innings giving up a hit and no runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  He retired the last 16 batters that he faced. 

T.J. Zeuch pitched four innings giving up three hits and no runs with a walk and a strikeout.  Trent Thornton pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a walk, Ryan Borucki pitched 2/3 of an inning and picked up his first win of the season and David Phelps pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Jordan Romano pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Julian Merryweather pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts and he picked up his second save of the season. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit and drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk.  Clint Frazier had a hit,Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI and Frazier and Torres each hit a double.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Torres and Sanchez each committed an error. 

Bo Bichette had a hit, Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and an RBI and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a hit.  Randall Grichuk had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Joe Panik had a hit and Alejandro Kirk drew a walk.  Bichette hti a double and Guerrero Jr. and Grichuk each hit a homerun.  The Blue Jays were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

In the second Guerrero Jr. hit a solo homerun and Grichuk hit a two-run homerun to give the Jays a 3-0 lead.  In the fifth Gardner hit an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 3-1.  That would be the final score. 

The Yankees lost two out of three to the Blue Jays and will begin a three-game series at home against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night.  Jordan Montgomery will get the start.

New York Yankees even up the series with the Toronto Blue Jays

 The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place

at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 5-3.  Corey Kluber started for the 

Yankees and he pitched well, the bullpen pitched well and DJ LeMahieu, piJudge and Gio Urshela 

each had two hits to lead the offense.  

Kluber pitched 4 innings giving up five hits and two runs with only one being earned.  He walked three

and struck out five.  Jonathan Loaisiga was dominant pitching two perfect innings and striking out 

three and he picked up his first win of the season.  Lucas Luetge made his first major league appearance

since 2015 and pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout.  Darren O'Day pitched

2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and Chad Green picked up his first save of the season pitching

1 1/3 innings giving up no hits or runs and striking out two.  

Ross Stripling started for the Blue Jays and he pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three

runs with two walks and five strikeouts and he lost his first game of the season.  Tyler Chatwood

pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one, Ryan Borucki pitched an inning

giving up a hit and Rafael Dolis pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two runs and three walks with a 

strikeout and Tim Mayza pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Joel Payamps pitched

1 1/3 innings giving up a walk and he struck out one.  

LeMahieu had two hits, an RBI and drew a walk, Judge had two hits and Aaron Hicks had a hit, an 

RBI and drew a walk.  Giancarlo Stanton drew two walks, Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk and

Jay Bruce had a hit and two RBI.  Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI, Urshela had two hits and Clint

Frazier had a hit and drew a walk.  Frazier hit a double and Sanchez hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 

4-10 with runners in scoring position and left 12 men on base.  Sanchez committed an error.  

Marcus Semien had two hits, two RBI and drew a walk, Cavan Biggio had a hit and Bo Bichette had a

hit.  Teoscar Hernandez had a hit, Vlad Guerrero Jr. had a hit and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a hit.  Randall

Grichuk had a hit and drew a walk, Danny Jansen drew a walk and Semien hit a homerun.  The Blue 

Jays were 1-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Semien had two stolen

bases and Bichette committed an error.  

In the second LeMahieu hit an RBI single to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Biggio struck out

and a run scored when Sanchez threw the ball into center field tying the game at one.  In the fourth 

Sanchez hit a solo homerun, Hicks hit an RBI single and the lead was 3-1.  In the fifth Semien hit a solo

homerun to cut the lead to 3-2.  In the sixth Bruce hit a two-run single pushing the Yankees lead to 5-2.

In the seventh Semien hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-3.  The final score was 5-3.  

The two teams have split the first two games of the series and will play the rubber game on Sunday 

afternoon.  Domingo German will be on the mound for the Yankees.
