New York Yankees blow late lead and lose to the Detroit Tigers

 

The New York Yankees were defeated by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida and the final score was 6-5.   Deivi Garcia started for the Yankees and he looked good.  Luis Cessa and Luis Garcia had rough outings.  Jay Bruce and Gary Sanchez each continued their hot springs with a homerun. 

D Garcia started for the Yankees and he pitched three innings giving up two hits and no runs with no walks and five strikeouts.  Cessa pitched an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout, Nick Nelson pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Nestor Cortes pitched a perfect inning.  L. Garcia pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a walk and a strikeout and he took his first loss of the season.  Tyler Lyons pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two. 

DJ LeMahieu had a hit, Trey Amburgey drew two walks and Aaron Hicks had an RBI.  Greg Allen drew a walk, Gleyber Torres had a hit and drew a walk and Andrew Velazquez drew a walk.  Bruce had a hit and two RBI, Sanchez had a hit and an RBI and Kyle Higashioka had a hit and drew a walk.  Ryan LaMarre drew a walk, Mike Tauchman drew a walk and Bruce and Sanchez each hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Allen was caught stealing. 

In the second Bruce hit a two-run homerun giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth Willi Castro hit a three-run homerun to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth Sanchez hit a solo homerun to tie the game at three.  Hicks hit an RBI ground out and the Yankees had a 4-3 lead.  In the eighth a wild pitch made it 5-3 Yankees.  In the bottom of the eighth Riley Greene hit an RBI double and Derek Hill hit an RBI single to tie the game at five.  A wild pitch made it 6-5 Tigers and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees will be at home in Tampa to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night. 

New York Mets rally late to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals

 

The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon.  The game took place at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida and the final score was 5-3.  Tijuan Walker started for the Mets and he didn’t pitch very well.  Kevin Pillar had a hit and an RBI and James McCann had a hit. 

Walker pitched two innings giving up two hits and two runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Edwin Diaz pitched an inning with two strikeouts, Trevor May pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two strikeouts and Jeurys Familia pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout.  Miguel Castro pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts, Tommy Hunter earned his first win of the spring pitching an inning and giving up two walks and a strikeout, Drew Smith pitched an inning with a strikeout and Sam McWilliams earned his second save of the spring pitching an inning with three walks and a strikeout. 

Pillar had a hit and an RBI, Jose Peraza had an RBI and Pete Alonso drew three walks.  McCann had a hit, Caleb Joseph drew a walk and Ronny Mauricio had a hit and two RBI.  Brandon Drury had a hit, Brett Baty drew a walk and Albert Almora Jr. had a hit.  Drew Ferguson had a hit, Johneshwy Fargas had a hit and Mallex Smith drew a walk.  Fargas hit a double and the Mets were 2-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Smith had a stolen base. 

In the second Andrew Knizner hit an RBI single to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  Edmundo Sosa hit a sac fly and it was 2-0.  In the fourth Justin Williams hit a solo homerun to push the Cardinals lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the seventh Pillar hit an RBI single, Peraza reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored and a wild pitch tied the score at three.  Mauricio hit a two-run single to break the tie and make it 5-3 Mets which was the final score. 

The Mets will have the day off on Wednesday and take on the Houston Astros on Thursday evening in West Palm Beach.   

New York Mets lose a sloppy game to the Washington Nationals

 

The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Monday.  The game took place at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida and the final score was 9-5.  Jordan Yamamoto started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Dellin Betances and Robert Gsellman also saw action and pitched well.  The offense was led by Francisco Lindor who had a couple of hits. 

Yamamoto pitched three innings giving up three hits and two runs both being unearned.  Yamamoto took the loss.  Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run, Gsellman pitched an inning giving up two hits and he struck out one and Matthew Allan pitched an inning giving up four hits and three runs with one being earned, he also had a strikeout.  Stephen Tarpley pitched an inning giving up three hits and a run and Franklyn Kilome pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with a walk. 

Lindor had two hits, Mark Vientos had two hits and J.D. Davis drew three walks.  Jake Hager had a hit and three RBI, Luis Guillorme had two hits and Patrick Mazeika had two RBI.  Vientos hit two doubles and Hager hit a homerun.  The Mets were 1-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Yamamoto, Davis and Hager each committed an error. 

In the first Ryan Zimmerman hit an RBI single to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  Schwarber hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the second Mazeika hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 2-1.  In the fourth Alex Avila reached on a fielding error and a run scored to make it a 3-1 game.  In the sixth Mazeika grounded into a force out and the lead was cut to 3-2.  In the bottom of the sixth Carter Kieboom hit an RBI single and Hernan Perez hit a two-run single to push the lead to 6-2.  In the bottom of the seventh a wild pitch made it a 7-2 game.  In the eighth Hager hit a three-run homerun and the lead was cut to 7-5.  In the bottom of the eighth Yadiel Hernandez hit an RBI single to make it a 8-5 game and a wild pitch made it 9-5 which would be the final score. 

The Mets will take on the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon in Port St. Lucie

New York Mets take down the Houston Astros

 

The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros on Saturday.  The game took place at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida.  The final score was 6-1 in six innings.  Jacob deGrom started for the Mets and he pitched well.  Pete Alonso and James McCann each had a couple of hits to lead the offense. 

deGrom pitched two innings giving up one hit and no runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  He won his first game of the spring.  Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout, Miguel Castro pitched an inning with a walk and Tommy Hunter pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out one.  Mike Montgomery pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with a walk and a strikeout. 

Ronny Muricio had a hit and an RBI, Michael Conforto had a hit and Khalil Lee drew a walk.  Pete Alonso had two hits and an RBI, Dom Smith had a hit and two RBI and James McCann had two hits.  Kevin Pillar had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Pete Crow-Armstrong had a hit and Albert Almora Jr. had a hit and an RBI.  Alonso hit two doubles, McCann hit a double and Crow-Armstrong hit a triple.  Smith hit a homerun and the Mets were 3-12 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Davis was caught stealing and Mauricio committed an error. 

In the first Alonso hit an RBI double to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.  In the second Almora Jr. hit an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0.  In the fourth Smith hit a solo homerun to make the game 3-0.  Pillar hit an RBI single and the lead was up to 4-0.  In the fifth Smith reached on a fielder’s choice and a run scored making it a 5-0 game.  In the sixth Mauricio hit an RBI single making it 6-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Freudis Nova hit an RBI double to get the Astros on the board and 6-1 would be the final score. 

The Mets will take on the Miami Marlins on Sunday afternoon in Port St. Lucie. 

New York Yankees shutout the Philadelphia Phillies

 

The New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida and the final score was 4-0.  Jordan Montgomery started and pitched well for the Yankees.  Brett Gardner hit a grand-slam and Giancarlo Stanton hit two doubles to lead the offense. 

Montgomery pitched three innings giving up two hits and he struck out one.  Montgomery earned his second win of the spring.  Jonathan Loaisiga pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out two, Lucas Luetge pitched a perfect inning striking out the side and Nick Goody pitched an inning with a walk.  Kyle Barraclough pitched an inning giving up a hit and a walk with a strikeout and Brooks Kriske pitched an inning with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Stanton had two hits and Luke Voit drew a walk.  Gleyber Torres drew a walk, Gary Sanchez had a hit and drew a walk and Miguel Andujar had a hit.  Andrew Velazquez had a hit, Gardner had a hit, four RBI and drew a walk and Stanton hit two doubles.  Gardner hit a homerun which was a grand-slam and the Yankees were 2-8 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.  Andujar had a stolen base. 

The Yankees will have their first off day of the spring on Monday and return to action on Tuesday when they take on the Detroit Tigers from Lakeland, Florida. 

New York Yankees lose to the Pittsburgh Pirates

 

The New York Yankees lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday afternoon.  The game took place at Lecom Park in Bradenton, Florida and the final score was 3-2.  Jameson Taillon started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Jay Bruce and Clint Frazier each hit a homerun for the Yankees. 

Taillon pitched two innings giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and four strikeouts.  Jhoulys Chacin pitched an inning giving up three hits and two runs.  He also struck out a batter and took the loss.  Trevor Lane pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a walk with a strikeout, Glenn Otto pitched to one batter and got him out and Luis Cessa pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with two strikeouts.  Adam Warren pitched a perfect inning. 

Bruce had a hit and an RBI, Frazier had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Derek Dietrich drew a walk.  Thairo Estrada had two hits, Bruce and Frazier each hit a homerun and the Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.  Estrada was caught stealing. 

In the first Bruce hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Gregory Polanco hit a two-run single to give the Pirates a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth Polanco hit a solo homerun to extend the Pirates lead to 3-1.  In the sixth Frazier hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to 3-2 and that would be the final score.  The Yankees will return to Tampa and take on the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon.
