The Yankees lose on a walk-off and are down 0-2 in series


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Saturday evening.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 2-1.  Luis Severino started and pitched well but was pulled for safety reasons after the manager thought he might be hurt.  The Yankees bullpen was outstanding.  The Yankees once again only managed five hits on offense. 

Severino pitched four innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks.  Tommy Khanle pitched two innings with a walk and a strikeout, David Robertson pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out two and Aroldis Chapman pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and he took the loss. 

Justin Verlander won the game pitching a complete game with five hits and a run.  He walked one and struck out 13. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Didi Gregorius had a hit and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Todd Frazier had a hit and an RBI.  Gardner, Hicks and Frazier each hit a double.  The Yankees were 1-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. 

Jose Altuve had two hits, Carlos Correa had two hits and two RBI with a walk and Yuri Gurriel had a hit and drew a walk.  Alex Bregman drew a walk, Gurriel and Correa each hit a double.  Correa hit a homerun and the Astros were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Reddick had an outfield assist. 

In the fourth Correa hit a solo homerun that was reviewed but was upheld.  The Astros took a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Frazier hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.  The game ended in the bottom of the ninth on a Correa RBI double.  If Gary Sanchez caught the relay throw though Altuve who scored the winning run was out by about ten feet. 

The Yankees have suffered back-to-back heart breakers in Houston to trail the ALCS 2 games to none but they will get a day off and then be home for Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday if  necessary.   

New York Yankees drop Game 1 to the Houston Astros


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Houston Astros on Friday night.  The game took place at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas and the final score was 2-1.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and pitched well.  The Yankees offense only managed five hits. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up four hits and two runs with a walk and three strikeouts.  Tanaka took the tough loss.  Chad Green pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out two. 

Dallas Keuchel won the game pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out ten.  Chris Devenski pitched giving up a walk and Ken Giles picked up the save pitching 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and four strikeouts. 

Brett Gardner had a hit and drew a walk, Aaron Judge had a hit and drew a walk and Gary Sanchez drew a walk.  Starlin Castro had a hit, Greg Bird had two hits and an RBI and Bird hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 1-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

George Springer drew a walk, Jose Altuve had three hits and Carlos Correa had a hit and an RBI.  Yuli Gurriel had a hit and an RBI, Alex Bregman had a hit and the Astros were 2-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Altuve had a stolen base and committed an error.  Marwin Gonzalez had an outfield assist. 

In the fourth Correa hit an RBI single to give the Astros a 1-0 lead.  Gurriel hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  In the ninth Bird hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 2-1 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of the ALCS on Saturday afternoon.

New York Yankees defeat the Cleveland Indians to advance to the ALCS


The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 5-2.  CC Sabathia pitched very well and the bullpen was great.  Brett Gardner and Didi Gregorius each had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up five hits and two runs with no walks and nine strikeouts.  David Robertson pitched 2 2/3 innings with a walk and two strikeouts and earned the win and Aroldis Chapman earned the save pitching two innings and giving up a walk and he struck out four. 

Corey Kluber lost the game pitching 3 2/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts.  Andrew Miller pitched two innings giving up two hits and he struck out five, Brian Shaw pitched two innings giving up a hit and he struck out three and Cody Allen pitched an inning giving up two hits and two runs with one of them being earned.  He walked one and struck out two and Joe Smith retired the only batter that he faced. 

Gardner had three hits and an RBI, Gregorius had three hits and three RBI and Starlin Castro had a hit.  Aaron Hicks had a hit and drew a walk, Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk and Todd Frazier drew a walk.  Gregorius hit two homeruns and the Yankees were 1-4 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Gardner was caught stealing. 

Francisco Lindor had a hit, Jose Ramirez drew a walk and Austin Jackson had a hit.  Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk, Roberto Perez had a hit and an RBI and Giovanny Urshela had a hit and an RBI.  The Indians were 2-5 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.  Perez, Jackson and Bruce each committed an error. 

In the first Gregorius hit a solo homerun giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  In the third Gregorius hit a two-run homerun to push the Yankees lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Perez hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-1 and Urshela hit an RBI single to cut it to 3-2.  In the ninth Gardner hit an RBI single and a run scored on an error pushing the lead to 5-2 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees won the ALDS 3 games to two and advanced to the ALCS to take on the Houston Astros.  It is the first time in five years the Yankees will be in the ALCS.  The series begins on Friday night in Houston.

New York Yankees force a Game 5 with a convincing victory


The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians in Game 4 of the ALDS on Monday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 7-3.  Luis Severino started for the Yankees and he pitched well.  Brett Gardner had two hits to lead the offense. 

Severino pitched seven innings giving up four hits and three runs with a walk and nine strikeouts.  Severino picked up the win, Dellin Betances walked the two batters he faced and Tommy Khanle pitched two perfect innings with five strikeouts and picked up the save. 

Trevor Bauer lost the game pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up four hits and four unearned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.  Joe Smith pitched to one batter and retired him, Mike Clevinger pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and an unearned run with two walks and a strikeout and Danny Salazar pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up an unearned run with two walks and three strikeouts.  Tyler Olson pitched to one batter and retired him, Brian Shaw pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout and Cody Allen pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two.  Josh Tomlin pitched an inning with a strikeout. 

Gardner had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Judge had a hit and two RBI and Didi Gregorius drew three walks.  Gary Sanchez had a hit and an RBI, Greg Bird had a hit and drew a walk and Starlin Castro had a hit and drew a walk.  Todd Frazier had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and an RBI and T. Frazier, Judge and Castro each hit a double.  Sanchez hit a homerun and the Yankees were 4-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Gardner had a stolen base. 

Francisco Lindor drew a walk, Jay Bruce had a hit and drew a walk and Carlos Santana had a hit and two RBI.  Michael Brantley had a hit, Roberto Perez had a hit and an RBI and Yan Gomes drew a walk.  Santana and Perez each hit a homerun and the Indians were 0-3 with four men left on base.  Urshela committed two errors, Salazar and Santana each committed an error.  Perez had a passed ball. 

In the second T. Frazier hit an RBI double and Hicks hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Yankees.  Judge hit a two-run double and the lead was increased to 4-0.  In the third Gardner reached on a throwing error and the lead was pushed to 5-0.  In the fourth Santana hit a two-run homerun to cut the lead to 5-2.  IN the fifth Perez hit a solo homerun and the lead was cut to 5-3.  In the fifth Gardner hit a sac fly to push the lead to 6-3.  In the sixth Sanchez hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 7-3 and that would be the final score. 

There will be a game five in Cleveland on Wednesday night.  It is a winner take all with the winner facing Houston in the ALCS.

The New York Yankees shutout the Cleveland Indians and stay alive


The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Indians on Sunday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 1-0.  It was a great game that kept the Yankees alive and headed to game four in NY on Monday night.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he pitched great.  Greg Bird was the only offense for either team with a homerun. 

Tanaka pitched seven innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked one and struck out seven and earned the win.  David Robertson pitched 1/3 of an inning walking a batter and Aroldis Chapman picked up the save pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up two hits and no runs with no walks and four strikeouts. 

Carlos Carrasco pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up three hits and no runs.  He walked three and struck out seven.  Andrew Miller took the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a run, Tyler Olson pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two and Joe Smith pitched an inning giving up a walk and he struck out two. 

Brett Gardner had a hit, Aaron Judge drew a walk and Gary Sanchez had a hit.  Didi Gregorious had a hit and drew two walks, Bird had a hit and an RBI and Jacoby Ellsbury drew a walk.  Aaron Hicks had a hit, Gardner hit a double and Bird hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

Jason Kipnis had two hits, Jose Ramirez had a hit and Carlos Santana had a hit and drew a walk.  Michael Brantley drew a walk, Roberto Perez had a hit and Kipnis hit a triple and the Indians were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the seventh Bird hit a solo homerun to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead and that would be the only run of the game.  The Yankees stayed alive and force game four on Monday night in New York.  The Yankees will look to force a fifth and decisive game and if not the Indians will advance to the ALCS.   

New York Yankees with a terrible extra inning loss in Cleveland


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Friday evening.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 9-8 in 13 innings.  It was game 2 of the ALDS and there was controversy.  CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and he pitched well after a shaky start.  Todd Frazier had three hits to lead the offense. 

Sabathia pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up three hits and four runs with two of them being earned.  He walked three and struck out five.  Chad Green pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up two hits and three runs, David Robertson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with three strikeouts and Tommy Khanle pitched to two batters and retired them both.  Aroldis Chapman pitched two innings giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts, Dellin Betances took the loss and pitched two innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.

This game had controversy.  In the sixth before Lindor hit his grand-slam there was a hit-by-pitch that actually hit the knob of the bat and was caught by Sanchez for what would have been strike three but Joe Girardi did not challenge and instead it was ruled a hit by pitch and set up the bases loaded for the grand slam to happen.  If it was challenged it would have been 8-3 Yankees in the seventh inning.  Instead the Yankees are down 0-2 headed to NY to try and avoid the sweep.

New York Yankees shutout by Cleveland Indians in Game 1 of ALDS


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night.  The game took place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio and the final score was 4-0.  It was game 1 of the ALDS and the Yankees were completely shut down by Trevor Bauer.  Sonny Gray started for the Yankees and struggled with his command, the bullpen was good. The Yankees offense only managed three hits and two of them were by Starlin Castro. 

Gray pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up three hits and three runs with four walks and two strikeouts.  Gray took the loss.  Adam Warren pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run with a strikeout, Jamie Garcia pitched 2 2/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts and Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning striking out the side. 

Bauer picked up the win pitching 6 2/3 innings giving up two hits and a walk.  He struck out eight.  Andrwe Miller pitched an inning with two walks and three strikeouts and Cody Allen picked up the save pitching 1 1/3 innings and giving up a hit and he struck out three. 

Brett Gardner drew a walk, Castro had two hits and Greg Bird drew a walk.  Chase Headley drew a walk, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Hicks hit a double and the Yankees were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. 

Francisco Lindor drew two walks, Jose Ramirez had a hit and Edwin Encarnacion drew a walk.  Jay Bruce had two hits and three RBI, Carlos Santana had a hit and drew a walk and Roberto Perez drew two walks.  Giovanny Urshela had a hit, Bruce hit a double and he hit a homerun and the Indians were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. 

In the second Perez grounded into a double play and a run scored giving the Indians a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Bruce hit a two-run homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the fifth Bruce hit a sac fly to make it 4-0 and that would be the final score.  The two teams will play game two of the series on Friday evening.
