New York Mets win an exciting game over the Chicago Cubs



The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.  The game took place at Citi Field in Flushing, New York and the final score was 4-3.  Steven Matz started for the Mets and he pitched ok and the bullpen was really good.  Travis d'Arnaud had two hits to lead the offense which only had six hits. 

Matz pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up seven hits and three runs with three walks and six strikeouts.  Erik Goeddel pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no hits and no runs with a couple of strikeouts and also picked up  his first win of the season.  Addison Reed pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, Jerry Blevins pitched to one batter and retired him and Jeurys Familia saved his 27th game of the season pitching an inning and giving up a hit and walking two with two strikeouts. 

John Lackey pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Cubs giving up five hits and two runs with two walks and five strikeouts.  Joel Peralta gave up a hit and two runs with only one of them being earned and a walk.  He didn't record an out and he lost his first game of the season, Pedro Strop pitched 2/3 of an inning, striking out one and Trevor Cahill pitched an inning striking out one. 

Brandon Nimmo had a hit and an RBI, Neil Walker had a hit and an RBI and Yoenis Cespedes had a hit and an RBI.  James Loney had a hit, Kelly Johnson drew a walk and d'Arnaud had two hits and drew a walk and Alejandro De Aza drew a walk.  Loney hit a double, Cespedes hit a homerun and the Mets were 1-8 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Matz had a pickoff. 

Ben Zobrist had two hits, Kris Bryant had a hit and two RBI and Anthony Rizzo had a hit and drew a walk.  Willson Contreras had a hit and drew a walk, Javier Baez had two hits and an RBI and Matt Szczur had a hit.  Addison Russell drew three walks, Albert Almora Jr. had a hit and Miguel Montero drew a walk.  Almora Jr., Rizzo and Zobrist, Bryant, Baez hit a homerun.  The Cubs were 0-7 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.  Szczur was caught stealing and Baez committed an error. 

Bryant hit a two run homerun in the first to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth Baez hit a solo homerun to extend the lead to 3-0.  In the bottom of the sixth Cespedes hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 3-1.  In the seventh Nimmo hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 3-2.  Walker reached on a fielders choice and two runs scored as an error also occurred on the play.  The Mets had a 4-3 lead and they held on for the 4-3 win. 

The two teams have split the first two games of four and will play game three on Friday night.

The New York Mets are swept in Washington as they continue to reel



The New York Mets were defeated by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the final score was 4-2.  Logan Verrett started for the Mets and he pitched ok and Sean Gilmartin in relief wasn't very good.  The Mets only managed six hits and no one had a multi hit game. 

Verrett pitched five innings giving up four hits and two runs with four walks and a strikeout and he lost his fifth game of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout and Gilmartin pitched an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk. 

Max Scherzer started for the Nationals and he pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs with a walk and ten strikeouts.  He earned his ninth win of the season.  Oliver Perez gave up a hit to his only batter, Blake Treinen pitched to one batter and retired him and Shawn Kelley saved his fourth game of the season pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up three hits and two runs with four strikeouts. 

Yoenis Cespedes had a hit, James Loney had a hit and two RBI and Asdrubal Cabrera had a hit.  Kelly Johnson had a hit and drew a walk, Brandon Nimmo had a hit and Curtis Granderson had a hit.  Johnson hit a double and Loney hit a homerun.  The Mets were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Johnson committed an error. 

Ben Revere had a hit and drew a walk, Jayson Werth had a hit and an RBI and Bryce Harper drew two walks.  Daniel Murphy had two hits and three RBI, Wilson Ramos drew a walk and Danny Espinosa had a hit and drew a walk.  Espinosa hit a double, Murphy hit two homeruns and the Nationals were 0-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. 

In the second Murphy hit a solo homerun to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead.  In the third Werth hit a sac fly to make it a 2-0 Nationals lead.  Murphy hit a two run homerun in the eighth to extend the lead to 4-0.  In the ninth Loney hit a two run homerun to cut the lead to 4-2 but that would be the final score of the game. 

The Mets were swept in the three game series and continue to struggle as of late.  They have been hit with injuries and they just haven't been very good lately.  They will try to find their was at home with the Cubs coming to town for four big games.   

The New York Yankees win on a walk off once again over the Texas Rangers



The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Thursday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 2-1.  The Yankees won their second straight in walk off fashion.  Michael Pineda started for the Yankees and he pitched great and so did the big three out of the bullpen.  Alex Rodriguez had two hits and Didi Gregorius hit a homerun. 

Pineda pitched six innings giving up one run on two hits.  He walked three and struck out 12.  Dellin Betances pitched an inning giving up a hit and he struck out two, Andrew Miller pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Aroldis Chapman picked up his second win of th eseason pitching an inning and giving up a hit and striking out one. 

A.J. Griffing pitched five innings giving up two hits and a run with two walks and eight strikeouts.  Shane Tolleson pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up three hits and he struck out one, Jake Diekman pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up two walks and Tony Barnette lost his third game of the season pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up an unearned run and two walks. 

Jacoby Ellsbury drew two walks, Rodriguez had two hits and Brian McCann had a hit.  Chase Headley had a hit and drew a walk, Gregorius had a hit and an RBI and Aaron Hicks drew two walks.  Carlos Beltran drew a pinch hit walk and Gregorius hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Rodriguez had a stolen base and Hicks was caught stealing. 

Shin-Soo Choo had a hit and an RBI, Nomar Mazara had a hit and Adrian Beltre had a hit and drew a walk.  Prince Fielder drew a walk, Jurickson Profar drew a walk and Mitch Moreland had a hit.  Choo hit a homerun and the Rangers were 0-2 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.  Chirinos had a passed ball. 

In the first Choo hit a solo homerun to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  In the fifth Gregorius hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the ninth a passed ball allowed the Yankees to score the winning run and walk off again for the second straight day.  The final score was 2-1 as the teams split the four game series and the Yankees ended their homestand.  They will head out west to take on the San Diego Padres in a three game series that begins on Friday night.

The Yankees shock the Texas Rangers with a stunning ninth inning rally



The New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-7.  Masahiro Tanaka started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch very well, Luis Cessa pitched well in relief and earned his first career victory.  Brian McCann hit two homeruns and Didi Gregorius hit a walk off homerun. 

Tanaka pitched six innings giving up eight hits and six runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.  Cessa pitched three innings giving up a hit and a run with two walks and two strikeouts. 

Nick Martinez started for the Rangers and he pitched five innings giving up three hits and two runs with five walks and two strikeouts.  Cesar Ramos pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up three hits and a run, Matt Bush pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout and Sam Dyson pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up three hits and four runs with a walk and blew his second save of the season and suffered his second loss of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew two walks, Brett Gardner had a hit and McCann had two hits, four RBI and drew two walks.  Starlin Castro had two hits and drew a walk, Gregorius had two hits and two RBI and Chase Headley had a hit and two RBI.  Aaron Hicks drew a walk, Rob Refsnyder had a hit and drew a walk and Headley and Gregorius each hit a  homerun.  McCann hit two homeruns in the game.  The Yankees were 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Ellsbury and Refsnyder each had a stolen base.  Refsnyder and McCann each committed an error. 

Shin-Soo Choo had two hits, Ian Desmond drew two walks and Nomar Mazara had a hit and three RBI.  Adrian Beltre had a hit and an RBI, Prince Fielder had two hits and an RBI and Roughned Odor had a hit and an RBI.  Elvis Andrus had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Robinson Chirinos had a hit and Fielder and Mazara each hit a double.  Odor and Beltre each hit a homerun and the Rangers were 3-6 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Desmond had a stolen base and Andrus was caught stealing.  Desmond committed an error. 

In the second Andrus hit an RBI single giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second Headley hit a solo homerun to tie the game at one.  In the third Mazara hit a three run double to give the Rangers a 4-1 lead.  Fielder hit an RBI single and the lead was extended to 5-1.  Odor hit a solo homerun in the sixth to push the Rangers lead to 6-1.  In the bottom of the sixth Headley hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 6-2.  In the eighth Beltre hit a homerun to extend the lead to 7-2 Rangers.  McCann hit a solo homerun in the eighth to cut the lead to 7-3.  In the ninth Gardner hit an RBI single cutting the lead to 7-4, McCann hit a three run homerun to tie the game at seven and Gregorius hit a two run homerun to win the game and make it a 9-7 final. 

The Yankees and Rangers will now play the rubber game of the four game series on Thursday afternoon.  This was a big win for the Yankees after suffering a tough loss in the first game after a 3 1/2 hour rain delay and then losing again on Tuesday night as the game got away from them late.

The New York Yankees blow a late lead after a long rain delay


The New York Yankees were defeated by the Texas Rangers on Monday night or early Tuesday

morning as the game didn't end until almost 3AM Eastern time.  The game took place at Yankee

Stadium in the Bronx, New York and the final score was 9-6.  The rain had been steady since about

the fourth inning and they kept playing through it until the ninth inning when the tarp was put on

with a man on first and no outs and a 3-1 count to the batter.  The delay was so long that the

Yankees lost their closer and Kirby Yates had to pitch and he was terrible.  Ivan Nova started for the

Yankees and wasn't very good but the Yankees offense did some damage in this game. 

Nova pitched five innings giving up six hits and four runs.  He walked three and struck out four.  Richard Bleier pitched a perfect inning, Dellin Betances pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout and Andrew Miller pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run and he struck out the side.  Aroldis Chapman gave up a walk and a run without recording an out and Yates lost his first game of the season pitching an inning giving up two hits and three runs with a couple of strikeouts. 

Chi Chi Gonzalez pitched five innings giving up ten hits and five runs with two walks and two strikeouts.  Luke Jackson pitched 1 1/3 innings giving up four hits and a run, Tony Barnette pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts and picked up his fifth win of the season.  Sam Dyson pitched an inning giving up a hit and he walked one and earned his 16th save of the season. 

Jacoby Ellsbury had a hit and drew a walk, Brett Gardner had two hits and Carlos Beltran had three hits and drew a walk.  Brian McCann had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Mark Teixeira had three hits and an RBI and Starlin Castro had two hits and an RBI.  Didi Gregorius had three hits and an RBI, Chase Headley had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk and Aaron Hicks had an RBI.  Gregorius hit a double and Teixeira hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 5-19 with runners in scoring position and left 13 men on base.  Gregorius and Ellsbury each had a stolen base.  Teixeira committed an error. 

Shin-Soo Choo had two hits and two RBI, Ian Desmond had a hit and two RBI and Nomar Mazara had a hit.  Adrian Beltre hada hit and two RBI, Prince Fielder had a hit and drew a walk and Roughned Odor had a hit and an RBI.  Elvis Andrus had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk.  Mitch Moreland had a hit, Robinson Chirinos drew two walks and Mazara and Choo each hit a double.  Desmond hit a homerun and the Rangers were 4-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.  Choo and Andrus each had a stolen base. 

Desmond hit a solo homerun in the first giving Texas a 1-0 lead.  In the second Headley hit an RBI single to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the second Hicks hit an RBI ground out to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead.  Desmond hit an RBI groundout in the third to tie the game at two.  In the bottom of the third Castro hit an RBI single giving the Yankees back the lead at 3-2.  Choo hit a two run single in the fourth giving the Rangers a 4-3 lead.  In the fifth McCann hit an RBI single to tie the game at four.  In the bottom of the fifth Gregorius hit an RBI single giving the Yankees a 5-4 lead.  Teixeira hit a solo homerun in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-4.  In the eighth Odor hit a solo homerun to cut the lead to 6-5.  In the ninth Beltre hit a two run single giving the Rangers a 7-6 lead and then Andrus hit a two run single to extend the lead to 9-6 which would be the final score.  The game was delayed at 10:40PM and not resumed until 2:15AM and ended at roughly 2:45AM.  It was a pretty bizarre night into early morning. 

The two teams will play game two of four on Tuesday night. 

New York Mets fall to the Atlanta Braves



The New York Mets were defeated by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia and the final score was 5-2.  Bartolo Colon started for the Mets and pitched well and the bullpen did not pitch very well.  Wilmer Flores had two hits to lead the offense. 

Colon pitched seven innings and giving up six hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.  He lost his fourth game of the season.  Antonio Bastardo pitched without getting an out, he gave up two hits and three runs with a walk and Logan Verrett pitched an inning giving up two hits and a run. 

Bud Norris won his third game of the season pitching seven innings and giving up four hits and no runs with no walks and eight strikeouts.  Jim Johnson pitched a perfect inning with a couple of strikeouts, Alexi Ogando pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up three hits and two runs and Arodys Vizcaino pitched to one batter and struck him out.  He earned his tenth save of the season. 

Kelly Johnson had a hit, Mark Reynolds had a hit and Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI.  Neil Walker had a hit, James Loney had a hit and Flores had two hits and an RBI.  Rene Rivera had a hit, Reynolds and Walker hit a double.  The Mets were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.  Johnson had a stolen base and Loney committed an error. 

Jace Peterson had two hits, Ender Inciarte had a hit and Freddie Freeman had three hits, an RBI and drew a walk.  Nick Markakis had two hits and an RBI, Adonis Garcia had a hit and three RBI and Jeff Francoeur had a hit.  Emilio Bonifacio drew a walk, Markakis, Freeman and Francoeur hit a double and Freeman and Garcia hit a homerun.  The Braves were 2-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base.  Inciarte had a stolen base and committed an error. 

In the first Freeman hit a solo homerun to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.  In the eighth Markakis hit an RBI single to push the lead to 2-0.  Garcia hit a three run homerun in the eighth to extend the lead to 5-0.  In the ninth Cespedes hit an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-1 and Flores hit an RBI single to make it 5-2 but that would be the final score. 

The teams split the four game series and the Mets will head to Washington for a big three game series on Monday night.

New York Yankees fail to sweep the Minnesota Twins



The New York Yankees were defeated by the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon.  The game took place at Yankee Stadium and the final score was 7-1.  Nathan Eovaldi started for the Yankees and he didn't pitch that well.  The Yankees offense only managed a couple of hits. 

Eovaldi pitched six innings giving up six hits and five runs with three walks and four strikeouts and he took his fifth loss of the season.  Luis Cessa pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up a hit and a run with a walk, Richard Bleier struck out the only batter that he faced and Kirby Yates pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with a strikeout. 

Tyler Duffey pitched eight innings giving up two hits and a run with eight strikeouts.  He won his third game of the season.  Brandon Kintzler pitched a perfect inning. 

Mark Teixeira had a hit and an RBI, Aaron Hicks had a hit and Hicks hit a double and Teixeira hit a homerun.  The Yankees were 0-1 with runners in scoring position and left one man on base. 

Eduardo Nunez had two hits and an RBI, Robbie Grossman drew two walks and Joe Mauer drew a walk.  Brian Dozier had two hits and two RBI, Trevor Plouffe had a hit and an RBI and Max Kepler had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk.  Juan Centeno had a hit and an RBI, Danny Santana had a hit and an RBI and Santana, Dozier, Plouffe, Kepler, Nunez and Centeno each hit a homerun.  The Twins left three men on base.  Nunez was caught stealing. 

In the third Santana hit a solo homerun to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the sixth Dozier hit a two run homerun to make it 3-0, Plouffe hit a solo homerun and Kepler hit a solo homerun and it was 5-0 Twins.  In the seventh Nunez hit a solo homerun to push the lead to 6-0.  In the eighth the Yankees got on the board with a solo homerun by Teixeira to cut the lead to 6-1.  In the ninth Centeno hit a solo homerun to make it 7-1 and that would be the final score. 

The Yankees won the first two games of the series and lost the last one.  They will open a big four game series with the AL leading Texas Rangers on Monday night.
